Participation in the Olympiad is a student’s chance to demonstrate his knowledge and earn privileges for. In addition, talented students receive cash bonuses and other incentives from local and federal authorities. For some schoolchildren, the Olympiad becomes the first step towards a scientific career. The first competition between talented students took place in 1886. In the USSR, the Olympic movement began in the 30s of the last century, and modern form received in the 1960s.

Each discipline has its own types of tasks, but, as a rule, they all combine theory and practice.

Stages of the 2017 Olympics

The All-Russian Olympiad for schoolchildren consists of four stages. The specific dates of the competition differ depending on the region where it is held, but in general the schedule looks like this.

1. School stage(September-October 2016). Passes in everyone educational institution between students of all grades, starting from the fifth. The tasks are developed by a methodological commission at the city level.
2. Municipal stage(December 2016 – January 2017). Winners participate school stage, students in grades 7-11. The tasks are drawn up by the organizers of the regional stage, and local officials are responsible for their implementation.
3. Regional stage(January – February 2017). It is held among students of grades 9-11 who received first places in municipal stage or won the regional last year.
4. All-Russian stage(March-April 2017). Those who took first places in previous stages or won last year participate. Organizer – Ministry of Education of Russia.

If a child received gold at the regional stage, but scored much lower points than students from other cities, he may not qualify for the final stage Olympics. The winners of the All-Russian stage have a chance to represent the country at international Olympiads. They take place in the summer and bring together the best experts in mathematics, computer science, biology, chemistry, physics, geography, and astronomy.
