Asus gaming laptop. The most powerful laptops in the world

With this article, our website continues a whole series of useful materials, the purpose of which is to make it easier to choose any product from the thousands of options offered on the market. Agree, choosing a specific model of a device always takes a lot of time, which can be spent usefully. In today's article we will talk about choosing gaming laptop .

Several things make a gaming laptop - a powerful processor, sufficient RAM, a modern discrete (separate) video card and, of course, a high price. You will have to pay for the opportunity to take all your favorite games with you on a hike, on transport or on vacation - do not expect to buy a gaming laptop for less than $800-$900. Top models can cost several times more. Their cost isn't always justified, but that's the nature of all the most powerful gaming PCs - both mobile and desktop. Also, don't expect a gaming laptop to be lightweight or comfortable. First of all, this is a gaming machine, and only then a portable PC. Gaming laptops require maintenance, often get very hot and weigh a lot (all this in comparison to non-gaming models).

In the next section, we will talk about the main characteristics of gaming laptops, and then present to your attention the ten best models that can be found and purchased in our catalog.

Key Features You Should Pay Attention To

Screen size and resolution

Gaming laptops are usually quite large, but there are also models with rather small screens - for example, 13-inch. Naturally, the larger the screen, the better games look on it, but it is worth remembering that a large laptop will not be as convenient to carry around. Overall, choose your size wisely. If you don’t plan to often put your laptop in a carrying bag, then you can buy a 17-inch model, and if you want it to always be with you, choose a smaller model.

Screen resolution is an interesting characteristic of a gaming laptop, as it should not be too high. The fact is that games are usually poorly optimized to work at resolutions above 1080p (1920x1080 pixels), and the components in laptops are noticeably weaker than their counterparts in desktop PCs. In general, the gold standard at the moment is 1080p, and there is no point in moving away from it.

CPU

No AMD chips - only Intel, only Core i7 and Core i5. You should not pay attention to the clock frequency - it is not very important (although it allows you to distinguish top-end processors from cheaper ones within the same line). What is important, rather, is the generation of the chip and its position in the line hierarchy. Processors in modern gaming laptops can be one of three generations - Haswell , Broadwell or Skylake. If you are interested in details, refer to Wikipedia using the links.

Random access memory (RAM), GB

The minimum amount of RAM required for modern games is 8 GB. More expensive models can be equipped with 16, 24 or even 32 GB. There is no particular sense in such volumes yet, but they definitely will not hurt and will allow us to make a “background for the future.” In addition, 32 or more gigabytes of RAM will allow you to organize a RAM disk in memory, launching games from which will be simply incredibly fast - but very, very few enthusiasts do this, especially on laptops.

Video card

As with the processor - no AMD video cards, only Nvidia. Unfortunately, AMD is losing outright in the mobile sector.

The minimum acceptable mobile video card at the moment is GeForce GTX 860M. It is enough to play all modern games, even if not at maximum graphics settings. More powerful options are the GTX 960M, GTX 965M, GTX970M and GTX980M. The last two will provide a comfortable game in the highest quality.

The most expensive, large and powerful gaming laptops are equipped with two video cards. Such machines are capable of handling even the most demanding games, but their cost reaches several thousand dollars, and the price/quality ratio falls into thin air.

Hard drive and/or SSD

Most often, expensive gaming models are equipped with a combination of hard and solid-state drives (HDD and SSD). The operating system is always located on the first one, and the games themselves are on the second one.

But many modern games receive a noticeable performance boost (that is, they not only load faster, but also work much better overall) when installed on an SSD. So it is the SSD capacity that is important - it is best if it is 256 or even 512 GB. HDD capacity is not that important - it is usually high enough to install a very large number of different games. Also, pay attention to the speed of the hard drive - it will be better if it is 7200 rpm rather than 5400 rpm.

Support for modern wireless technologies

The most important thing here is support for the fastest version of the Wi-Fi protocol 802.11ac. In such a wireless network, data transfer rates can reach several gigabits per second (under ideal conditions). This is important when streaming games on a local network - for example, if you want to use a device like Steam Link to stream games to a TV or other laptop.

Required Interfaces

The most important thing here is the presence of several high-speed USB 3.0 ports and an HDMI output. The first ones are useful for connecting various peripheral devices, the second one is for possible connection of a laptop to an external monitor or TV.

Keyboard

A keyboard is a very important tool for any PC gamer. As you know, mechanical models are best suited for gaming, but they are very rare in laptops - only the largest and most expensive models are equipped with them. It is also worth paying attention to the presence of all standard keyboard buttons - it is best if the keyboard of your gaming laptop has at least 104 keys and a number field.

Don't pay attention to keyboards with multi-colored backlighting and other cosmetic options - most likely, they will only distract you from your games. However, you can often simply turn them off.

In terms of technical characteristics, gaming laptops are close to desktop computers, but they are distinguished by their mobility and light weight. Manufacturing companies compete not only in increasing productivity, but also in reducing the size of their devices. Within the same price segment, these indicators, as a rule, do not differ too much.

One of the most anticipated laptops of 2015 is the new product from Apple - the thin and powerful MacBook Pro laptop with a 15-inch Retina display. The laptop is powered by a 4-core Intel Core i7 processor with a clock frequency of 2.5 GHz. Turbo Boost technology allows you to overclock processor cores that are currently running below nominal load to 3.7 GHz. Overclocking occurs if the maximum permissible values of current, voltage and power consumed by the processor are not exceeded.

The amount of RAM is 16 GB with a clock frequency of 1.6 GHz. A 512 GB flash memory is used to store information.

The MacBook Pro's graphics are powered by an integrated Intel Iris Pro Graphics processor, which uses ultra-fast cache to handle demanding graphics tasks, and a mid-range NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M mobile graphics card (2 GB of GDDR5 memory), created using Kepler technology. As a result, users should experience faster frame rates in 3D applications and faster response times.

The number of pixels on the screen of a 15-inch Retina display is more than 5,000,000 with a resolution of 2880 x 1800 px. IPS technology provides a viewing angle of 178 degrees. The built-in battery is designed for 8 hours of intensive work.

Gigabyte P35X v3 gaming laptop

The Taiwanese company Gigabyte competes with ASUS with the P35X gaming laptop. The hardware of both devices is not too different, but the Gigabyte P35X v3 is more than 2 times lighter than the device from ASUS. The laptop is powered by an Intel Core i7-4860HQ processor with a clock frequency of 2.5 GHz and can be overclocked to 3.5 GHz using Turbo Boost technology. The size of its RAM is 8 GB with the ability to increase up to 16 GB - less than that of the competitor from ASUS, but 2 hard drives with a capacity of 2 TB and 2 solid-state modules of 512 GB each are used as a storage device.

In conjunction with the integrated Intel Iris Pro graphics 5200 graphics chip, the same modern high-performance NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M video card works, but with 8 GB of video memory.

The display of the P35X v3 laptop with a diagonal of 15.6” and a resolution of 2880 x 1620 is made on an IPS matrix and is protected by an anti-glare coating, which eliminates the shortcomings of the matrix.

Video review of the Gigabyte P35X v3 laptop:

I will continue the tradition and this time I will write about the best, in my opinion, laptops to buy in 2015. Considering that all the best laptops have exceeded the price acceptable for many ordinary citizens, I plan to build my rating of laptops as follows: first - the really best (in my opinion) for various applications: everyday use, gaming, mobile workstations, without regard to price . Then I will write about those that will be optimal for a specific budget: up to 15 thousand rubles, 15-25 and 25-35 thousand rubles (well, if you have more, you can choose from the first part of the rating or simply by characteristics and reviews, you already have from which to choose). Update:

Since it's only the beginning of the year and, moreover, this year I expect the release of Windows 10 and Intel Skylake processors, which in total could lead to very interesting devices, the list will be updated later, so if you don't need a laptop right now and don't in the next 6-10 months, be prepared for the fact that the TOP laptops will change by then.

You know, if in this section you write about the really best gaming laptops, such as:

  • MSI GT80 Titan SLI and MSI GS70 2QE Stealth Pro
  • New Razer Blade
  • Gigabyte P37X (not on sale yet, but I think soon)
  • Dell Alienware 18

When you look at their price (150-300 thousand rubles, on average), discomfort and doubts arise about the meaningfulness of such recommendations. It's like recommending a Mac Pro as a good home PC. So I’ll definitely write about more realistic gaming laptops to buy when we move on to budgets.

Well, for now you can admire it. So, the best gaming laptop MSI GT80 2QE Titan SLI - quad-core Core i7 4980HQ, two GeForce GTX 980M video cards in SLI, 18-plus inches Full HD (higher expansion for games is currently more of a minus than a plus), excellent Dynaudio audio with built-in subwoofer, an excellent keyboard for gaming, a thoughtful upgrade of the laptop by the user and 121 FPS in Far Cry 4 on ultra. You can find the price yourself.

MacBook Pro 15 with Retina display is the best laptop for work (serious work)

By a laptop for work, I mean a mobile workstation on which you can easily and happily edit video, use CAD programs, do illustration and retouching, and, in fact, anything else. If you consider using Word, Excel and a browser as work, any laptop will do, and the best ones will be those listed in the first point of this rating.

And at this point, I think it’s right to place the MacBook Pro 15 with a Retina screen, even if it has not yet received 5th generation processors and a new touchpad (unlike the 13-inch model of early 2015), but is still not inferior to anyone in total characteristics: performance, screen, reliability, weight and battery life.

In addition, regarding the price, I can draw your attention to the fact that these laptops can still be found at retailers at a price 30% lower than at the official Apple Store (old supplies, apparently) and this price is lower than many of today’s Windows analogues (or approximately equal to them).

Transformable laptops

Now about laptops that can be tablets and tablets that can be used as a laptop. Here I would single out Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro and Microsoft Surface 3 Pro (which should be updated to version 4 in 2015) as the best representatives of the category.

The second is not a laptop, but is equipped with a stylus and can be used in its role after purchasing a branded keyboard. Both have gorgeous screens, decent performance on Windows 8.1, benchmark scores, and good reviews. For me personally (and this entire review is very subjective), the value of such devices, as well as their reliability and comfort in use, is a little questionable, but many people use it and are satisfied.

Laptops based on budget

It's time to move on to ordinary human laptops in 2015, which are bought by most of us who are not ready to give up the cost of a car for a device that becomes obsolete many times faster than a car. Let's begin.

Note: I analyze current prices using Yandex Market and focus on the minimum prices in all-Russian retail chains.

Laptop for 15,000 rubles

There's not much you can buy for that price. It will be either a netbook with an 11-inch screen or a 15-inch simple laptop for study and office work.

Laptops up to 25 thousand

One of the best devices in this category today, in my opinion, is the ASUS X200LA with Core i3 Haswell, 4 GB of memory and weighing 1.36 kg. Unfortunately, the 11.6-inch screen may not be suitable for many.

If you need a larger screen, you can take the DELL Inspiron 3542 with a 15.6-inch screen, in a configuration with a Pentium Dual-Core 3558U chip and with Linux, it will just fit, and the laptop is very good.

25000-35000 rubles

I'll start, perhaps, from the bottom line and Acer ASPIRE V3-331-P9J6 - a new inexpensive model from Acer with Intel Broadwell, good battery life and weighing one and a half kilograms. There are no reviews on it yet, but I assume that it will be a very good budget laptop.

The next laptop from Dell was already mentioned in the previous paragraph, but this time we are talking about the Inspiron 3542 with an Intel Core i5 4210U, Windows 8.1 and, finally, discrete graphics NVidia GeForce 820M, that is, this laptop is already suitable for games (about 29 thousand rubles).

Well, at the top end of the range, I will again recommend the same Dell Inspiron 3542, but with a Core i7 4510U, GeForce 840M 2 GB and 8 GB of RAM - this is already very worthy and is suitable for both games and quite serious work.

Additionally

In the end, I want to talk about the advisability of upgrading the laptop at the beginning of 2015 and about the new MacBook, as promised above.

First of all, it seems to me that if there is no urgent need for a new laptop, then right now it makes sense to wait for the release of devices with Skylake (which, presumably, will be shipped somewhere in the second half of the year) and Windows 10 (not everything is clear here, there is rumors that they will launch by September or later in the fall).

Why? Firstly, Skylake is likely to bring increased autonomy, performance and reduce the size of devices. Secondly, when it comes to laptops, it is better for the average user to purchase them with the operating system that he will use in the future. Despite the fact that upgrading from Windows 8 and 7 to 10 will be free, it is better to have Windows 10 immediately configured for your hardware, including in a recovery image. And I think this version of the system will be relevant for a long time (comparable to Windows 7).

Well, a little about the new MacBook 2105 on Core M, with a 12-inch Retina display and without fans in the cooling system. Is it worth buying such a device?

If you buy all the new Apple products without me, then I have nothing to advise. But if you are thinking about the advisability of such a purchase, then, you know, I myself have doubts. So a few thoughts as a list:

  • The absence of a fan and air ducts is great, I’ve been waiting for this for a long time, dust is the main enemy of laptops, in my opinion (however, my ARM Chromebook doesn’t have a fan or slots either)
  • Weight and dimensions are excellent, just what you need.
  • Autonomy is promised to be good, but, of course, the MacBook Air is better here.
  • Screen. Retina. I don’t know whether most users need it on such diagonals and whether the additional load and power consumption are justified due to the higher resolution, and therefore I won’t evaluate it.
  • Performance - this is where doubts begin. On the one hand, if you look at the tests of the Yoga 3 Pro with similar specifications and a Core M processor, then the new MacBook (for which there are no tests yet) should have enough performance for many tasks. On the other hand, in image and video processing and other resource-intensive work scenarios, the operating speed is almost two times lower than that of the Air with 4 GB of memory. And given the fact that these operations will often be performed in Turbo Boost, problems may arise with battery life.
  • The price is the same as the Air with 256 GB SSD and 8 GB RAM (which is the basic configuration of the New MacBook).

In general, a new MacBook might be suitable for my work, but I seriously doubt that I can comfortably test programs in a virtual machine on it or edit my simple YouTube videos. While on Air you can do it quite well.

A very interesting device, I would like to try it. But I myself am actually waiting for the smartphone to be the only computer for all tasks, connecting, if necessary, to any peripherals, screens, etc. Somehow the guys from Ubuntu limited themselves to demonstrations in this regard.

Every year the demand for gaming laptops is growing irrepressibly. Most likely, this is due to the fact that modern games have realistic graphics and immerse the player in a fairly high-quality world of virtual reality, where everyone can become what they have always dreamed of. Below are the best gaming laptops of 2015, along with their prices and specifications. We couldn't choose the best gaming laptop, so here are the top 5 best models for your consideration.

Alienware 13

Alienware has released the lightest and thinnest 13-inch laptop model yet. The weight of the computer is about 2 kilograms. A high-precision screen (2560x1440 pixels) and an affordable price on the market (from $1,000) make this gaming unit one of the most attractive new products of 2015. Most IT journalists agree that the sound quality of this computer is at the highest level.

The appearance of the Alienware 13 is similar to the 17-inch prototype. The laptop features a glowing keyboard and an angular body design. The Blade 14 gaming computer has almost the same weight. However, Alienware 13 is thinner than its prototype (17.78 mm versus 25.4 mm). The laptop has a built-in four-cell battery, which allows it to work actively for 8.5 hours in autonomous mode. Windows 10 software is initially installed, which supports significantly more games than its predecessors.

This gaming laptop is a good choice for gaming enthusiasts because it is quite compact, easy to use and has an unrivaled appearance. The speed of this device will not let you doubt the power of the Alienware 13 for a second.

MSI GS70 Stealth

The MSI GS70 Stealth computer can be called a kind of symbiosis of many new products of 2015. This model incorporates some of the distinctive features of other newly produced laptops. For example, from Alienware 17 and MSI Dominator, this device has the same 17-inch display. If we look at the body, it is as thin as the body of the Blade 16. The market price of the ultrabook is about $1,900.

This device has some similar characteristics to the MacBook Pro, but differs in that it is essentially intended for games. The RAM of the MSI GS70 Stealth is 16 gigabytes. The laptop weighs approximately 2.6 kilograms and many experts claim that this computer is the lightest gaming device in the world.

In offline mode, the MSI GS70 Stealth works for up to 3 hours, which is explained by the high productivity and quality of the procedures performed. The laptop is equipped with four USB ports, and the video card shows the best results among other new products in the field of gaming models.

Thus, the MSI GS70 Stealth gaming machine is a good choice for gaming enthusiasts because the laptop comes with high-quality functionality. In the event of a malfunction of the unit, the warranty applies for two years.

Alienware 17

The Alienware 17 gaming laptop, presented by Dell, is considered one of the most powerful computers in the entire line. The 17.3-inch flagship allows the device to function in a powerful way and reproduce high-quality sound. The appearance of the laptop is designed in an elegant style and will not leave anyone indifferent. RAM can consist of 8 or 16 gigabytes.

The Alienware 17 comes with an optional Intel HD Graphics 4600 for less demanding tasks like watching videos. The computer has colorful backlighting, which is located on both the keyboard and the touchpad. The only disadvantage of this model, experts point out, is the heavy weight of the device - about 4 kilograms. The computer has several USB ports.

Alienware 17 has an 8-cell battery, thanks to which the laptop can run up to 6.5 hours without charging. This high-performance unit also includes a backlit push-button touchpad with image sensors and full pixel addressing. Thus, this colorful device should become an incredible discovery for gamers and gain high popularity.

MSI GT72 Dominator

The 17-inch MSI GT72 Dominator is a leader in the gaming laptop market. NVIDIA 980M graphics and four SSD drives are undoubtedly the distinguishing features of this model. The computer keyboard has an “island” key design, which allows it to be one of the best among its prototypes. The device user has the ability to create personal accounts for various applications.

The MSI GT72 Dominator is very desktop-like, thanks in large part to the stunning GeForce GTX 980M graphics. The computer is equipped with 8 gigabytes of RAM. The main disadvantage of this model is the rather high price for a laptop – $2,500. The laptop is also unable to reproduce colors and brightness accurately.

The MSI GT72 Dominator's image saturation is slightly worse than similar models, despite its 17.3-inch display. A computer can operate in offline mode for a fairly short period of time - no more than 3 hours.

It is easy to notice that this device has a number of disadvantages, but this model will definitely have its buyers. The high performance of a gaming laptop can easily overcome any shortcomings for most.

Gigabyte P25X v2

The advantages of the Gigabyte P25X v2 gaming machine are its fast Core i7 processor and GeForce GTX 880M graphics, which have a high-quality Full HD display. The computer is equipped with a 15-inch screen, which allows it to be one of the best among similar gaming laptops. Most experts primarily note the high-speed performance of this model. The hard drive capacity is 1.5 terabytes, which turns the usual computer space into a whole repository of various components and programs.

Gigabyte P25X also features high quality display and resolution (3200x1800 pixels). However, this device has some disadvantages. The laptop tends to hum and gets hot very quickly. More often than not, such procedures are always accompanied by the start of a game or while watching an HD video. Gigabyte P25X has an average market price - no less than $1,600.

Manufacturers note the incredibly powerful gaming graphics of the released model. Therefore, the Gigabyte P25X prevails in many respects over other gaming units. By purchasing this device, a gaming enthusiast will be completely satisfied with the quality of operation of this laptop.

Nowadays, laptops designed specifically for gaming are becoming increasingly popular. Many already prefer such a compact solution to stationary systems, especially since many gaming laptops are now not inferior to computers and allow their owner to forget about an upgrade for the next couple of years. What are the most powerful models on the market today?

The new product was presented recently at CES 2015. In such a short time, experts have already assessed it, calling it the most powerful gaming laptop of our time. The gadget amazes with graphics, hardware, sound, design, and a bright 17.3-inch screen. Full HD screen resolution, hardware may vary slightly, RAM from 8 to 16 GB depending on the configuration.

The device has two video cards: one is designed for the most resource-intensive games, the second is for less demanding tasks, for example, watching videos. In the most powerful games, the laptop shows amazing results: 144 frames per second, so working with it leaves the most positive emotions.

The developer did not spare the backlight: the keyboard, touchpad, and logos are illuminated. Overall, the laptop looks like a real gaming monster, and its only drawback is its relatively large weight - 4 kg.

This laptop boasts not only its level of performance, but also its compact size and minimal weight among similar devices. The case is made of metal, the keyboard is island-type, with green backlight. The screen turned out to be incomparable, its resolution is 3200*1800 pixels. A graphics processor with 3 GB of RAM brings the laptop closer to the most powerful computers, and can handle games of any complexity.

In games it shows about 100 fps - a very high result for today. In terms of autonomy, the gadget is also pleasantly pleasing, but the price remains at $2,300.

This device was released last fall and still remains among the leaders among 17-inch laptops. It captivates users with a powerful video card, four SSD drives and high-quality lighting in all zones. In addition, the keyboard can be customized for each specific user, and each key can be assigned only a convenient value for you.

Graphics with 8 GB of video memory brings the laptop closer to the most advanced computers, and as a result, you can achieve an image frequency of 87 frames/s in games. The display resolution is very high – 1920*1080.

But even here it was not without criticism. They find fault mainly with the high cost - about $2,500, as well as with color rendition and saturation, and with battery life. Otherwise, in terms of performance, there are no complaints about the gadget.

Among gaming laptops with a 14-inch display, this model is one of the best. A clear display with Full HD resolution (3200*1800), graphics with 8 GB memory, high speed up to 150 fps, amazing performance - all this explains the wide popularity of this device in the market.

Among the shortcomings, they note that the laptop heats up quickly and makes slightly above average noise. But the price is pleasantly pleasing - $1600 and it’s yours.

This gadget incorporates all the best qualities of the laptops reviewed: a 17-inch diagonal screen, a thin body, the device itself is light and compact - it weighs 2.6 kg.

Many see it as having a lot in common with the MacBook Pro, but with a gaming bent. You can buy it for $1,900, and you will get 1 TB of memory, 384 GB of SSD storage, 68 frames/s.

Here is the most compact and one of the cheapest gaming laptops. With a diagonal of 13 inches and a resolution of 2560*1440 pixels, it weighs about 2 kg. The cost starts at around $999 – the most modest figure in our review. The device is also praised for its design, illumination quality and crisp, clear sound.

It runs around 63fps in game, and overall makes a great compact replacement for any PC, especially if space and money are your limiting factors.

A distinctive feature of this laptop is the ability to play video in 4K format, but whether this is a plus or a minus is up to everyone to figure out. Firstly, the video card is rather of average power, and, secondly, the detail will need to be set to a minimum.

In terms of performance, this laptop is close to the Alienware 13, and even slightly ahead of it, but it also costs a little more - about $1,100.
