How to effectively pray for the salvation of family and friends

It happens that people pray for a long time for the salvation of those who are dear to them, but then they become disappointed and begin to doubt that their prayers are effective. But they work! Your prayers are powerful if you know how to pray according to the wisdom of God's Word. The problem is that many Christians don't know how to pray for unsaved friends or relatives. Therefore, they pray for twenty, thirty, or even forty years, but nothing changes in the lives of their loved ones.

What are these people praying for? Their prayer usually amounts to this: “Oh God, please save my brother. He needs saving." Do you really think God doesn’t know that this person needs salvation? Then they take another step and begin to remember their brother’s sins: “Lord, yesterday he got drunk again, and we had to take him out of the sobering-up center again. If you don’t save him, he’ll drive us all crazy!” Many of us have said similar prayers, haven't we? And they were perplexed: why doesn’t our relative or friend want to accept salvation?

No person who understands the salvation that Jesus offers will reject that salvation of his own free will. No one! Then why are so many people still not saved? Because “our gospel is hid...to those who are perishing, to those who do not believe, whose minds the god of this world has blinded, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of the invisible God, should shine to them” (2 Corinthians 4:3-4). The god of this age is the devil. When you understand that he (and not the one you care about) is the real problem, you will clearly see what you need to pray for first of all.

1. Drive the devil out of the life of your relative or friend! Jesus said, “...how can anyone enter the house of a strong man and spoil his goods, unless he first binds the strong man?” (Matthew 12:29). Therefore, in prayer, bind the devil. Say this: “The spirit operating in the life of (name) and blinding his (her) mind to prevent him (her) from accepting the message of salvation and entering the Kingdom of God, I bind you now. Jesus gave me authority over you, so in the name of Jesus Christ I command you: leave (say your name)! I bind you and order you to free the person dear to me!” The devil will run away, but perhaps he will run away for a short time, because the one for whom you are praying may, by his behavior, open the door to him again. But you can keep the devil bound - when you pray, powerfully remind him: “Satan, you are bound!”

2. Pray to the Lord of the harvest. You will find this step in the Gospel of Matthew. When Jesus saw many people who needed help, He said to His disciples: “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; Therefore pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest” (Matthew 9:37-38). Faith for salvation comes from God's Word, as it is written: “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God” (Romans 10:17). You need to make sure that God's Word gets into the heart of the person you love. "How? - you ask. “The person I love won’t listen to me!” Maybe he won’t, but God knows who he will listen to, and He will send this person even from the other end of the earth if necessary. Therefore, pray like this: “Father, I ask You to send Your workers on the path of (say a name) - send Your servants, equipped with the Word of God about salvation, about the baptism of the Holy Spirit, healing and deliverance, who can speak like this to (say a name), that Your Word will touch his (her) heart!”

3. After praying for your friend or relative, believe that this person is already saved. Every time you pray, thank God for his (her) salvation. You will see how gradually everything will change. Do not give up! Be wise! Pray in accordance with God's Word for your loved ones, believe - and you will see the salvation of the Lord! When you speak God's Word, remember that it does not return to God void. It accomplishes what it was sent to do (see Isaiah 55:11). Here is an example of how you can pray for a friend or relative who is not yet saved:

“Father, I come to You in prayer. Your Word says that You want “all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:4). So today I am praying for (name). I destroy the powers of Satan and his activities in the life of (name) in the name of Jesus. And I ask You, send Your workers to tell him (her) about Christ so that (name) will listen, understand and accept salvation. When (name) hears the truth, I believe he/she will recognize Jesus as his Lord and Savior. Father, I ask, fill (name) with the desire to come to You, to accept You. I intercede for him (her) and believe that You are already working by the power of the Holy Spirit, and I praise and thank You for saving (name). I am confident that You are watchful of Your Word to fulfill it. It will not return to You empty. It will accomplish what You sent it to do. Therefore, I confess with faith that You have already begun a good work in the life of (name) and will complete it. Amen".

Please read these scriptures for yourself: 2 Peter 3:9; Matthew 9:37–38, 12:29; 2 Timothy 2:25–26; Jeremiah 1:12; Isaiah 55:6-13, Hebrews 10:39. Remember what God's Word says: “...believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you and all your house will be saved” (Acts 16:31).
