From stilettos to Viennese: types of heels

7 chose

There are many types of heels. Some of them are so comfortable that you can spend the whole day in shoes without ever thinking about taking them off, others are created rather for beauty. We have collected some facts about the main types of heels ...

stiletto heel

Thin, long heels can be found on shoes, ankle boots and boots. The height of the hairpin is different, there are heels up to 25 centimeters high.

Modern stiletto heels were invented in 1950 by the famous Italian shoemaker Salvatore Ferragamo (however, both Roger Vivier and Raymond Massaro claim "authorship". Apparently, the idea was in the air). Marilyn Monroe was one of the first to flaunt stiletto pumps.

By the way, Salvatore Ferragamo had many famous clients, whose legs he knew in detail.

Stiletto heel

Stylet - the same hairpin. Only the hairpin is covered with material, and the stylet is a thin straight rod.

Glass heel

You can’t confuse a “glass” with anything, because the name describes the shape. The height of this heel is small, usually not more than five centimeters. "Shot glass" is suitable for those who want to look feminine, but are not ready to spend the whole day in high heels. Shoes with this heel came into fashion thanks to the heroines of Audrey Hepburn, who appeared in them in Breakfast at Tiffany's, in Funny Face, in Sabrina.

Cone heel

It is also called a wedge heel. Wide at the top, it tapers down. It is believed that the author of the cone heel is the Frenchwoman Maud Frison. New York Magazine in 1978 recommended Frison's cone heel.

wedge heel

Wedge shoes have a rich history, but in their modern form it was invented by the same Salvatore Ferragamo in 1936. Moreover, the reason for this was the lack of steel for the manufacture of soles (steel plates were inserted into the shoes). Ferragamo cork filled the space between the sole and the heel - and voila! - one of the most popular models came out from under his hand. Over time, the designer introduced various types of wedge shoes, including these striped sandals.
