Camouflage in World of Tanks: practical application. Camouflage coefficients in World of Tanks Camouflage network world of tanks

The degree of camouflage is the susceptibility of a vehicle to detection by the enemy. The main purpose of camouflage is to prevent your location on the map from being exposed.

How is a tank detected?

Each vehicle in World of Tanks sends invisible beams within the viewing radius, which is specified in the tank's characteristics. If such a beam reaches the overall point of the opponent’s vehicle, then the latter is considered detected. The tank model in this system looks like this:

  • Any technique has two viewing points
  • Activation of viewpoints occurs alternately, that is, first one, then the other. Depending on the distance to the object, the time interval between changing points can vary from 0.1 to 2 seconds.
  • A pair of points form around the vehicle, one might say, a ball, the radius of which determines the viewing parameter of the vehicle. The maximum possible viewing radius is 445 meters. Equipment that has been exposed by an ally becomes visible to everyone at a distance of up to 564 meters. The artillery mode allows self-propelled guns to detect illuminated vehicles at any distance.

Here it is worth clearly distinguishing two concepts: dimensional points of equipment and observation points. Spots allow the enemy to see your vehicles, and vantage points help you spot rival vehicles.

How long is a detected tank visible?

Once a vehicle is detected, its visibility is maintained for 10 seconds, even if the visibility beams no longer touch the viewpoints. This suggests the conclusion that any tank that drives behind some object does not immediately disappear from visibility. Detected vehicles continue to be visible for some period of time even after the detection vehicle is destroyed.

When is a tank considered invisible?

A car is invisible to rivals when the dimensional points of its body are invisible to rivals. This is ensured by various objects: buildings, vegetation, relief irregularities.

However, objects on the map become useless if your car and your opponent's car get within a certain close range. So, being 50 meters away, all tanks will see each other, regardless of the equipment and the terrain around it.

How to hide in the bushes correctly

First, you need to take into account that the bush is translucent and provides an increase in the degree of camouflage of the equipment hidden behind it. The quality of camouflage here depends on the ratio of the height of the vegetation and the size of the vehicle that is hiding behind the bush. The depth to which a vehicle enters a bush does not in any way determine the degree of camouflage, so it is quite possible to stand behind the grass itself.

You need to know that when an enemy tank approaches the center of this vegetation less than 15 meters, the bush becomes transparent to it, that is, the view is unobstructed.

To avoid possible detection when shooting, you need to stand a little further than the bush itself. Thus, while aiming, the bush will be opaque, and the opponent will be targeted along the silhouette.

How does the Camouflage Network equipment work?

“Camouflage network” is static equipment, that is, it operates only when the equipment is at rest. When the tank moves and is at rest for less than 3 seconds, this module remains inactive. And only after three seconds have passed after the equipment is fully secured, the “Camouflage Network” emblem is highlighted in green – the equipment is active.

How does camouflage work?

Camouflage is a permanent addition to the degree of camouflage of a vehicle. The increase from Camouflage is determined by the model of the tank. By the way, “Camouflage” works the same both when the vehicle is moving and when it is not moving.

How does the Disguise skill work?

This skill reduces the visibility radius of a vehicle. The skill is constantly active, be it movement, rest, or even shooting.

When the camouflage of a stationary tank is activated

It is always easier to notice a car in motion than when it is not. The “Camouflage” skill provides a double increase in the stealth of a vehicle compared to the state of movement. This applies to all tanks except high LT levels.

Does detection of a tank when firing depend on the caliber and shell of the gun?

Caliber affects the degree of camouflage of the tank. The higher the caliber value, the correspondingly the visibility of the tank in front of the enemy increases. The muzzle brake is a significant factor on which the stealth of the vehicle also depends. So, if it is present, a shot unmasks the vehicle more than a shot from a vehicle that does not have a muzzle brake.

The visibility of the tank does not depend on the type of projectile.

Is there a difference in visibility between tanks of the same class?

The invisibility of each tank is indicated in its tactical and technical characteristics. This question depends only on the specific machine where the “Disguise” skill is individually upgraded.

The bush is a translucent structure that does not transmit the above-described rays. If you approach the center of the bush at a distance of less than 15 meters, it becomes completely transparent to you and you can look right through it (your rays pass through it without obstacles).

How to hide in the bushes?

The size of the bush affects camouflage; tall tanks in low bushes will be visible from the tower. The degree of immersion in the bush does not affect, that is, you can stand not in the bush itself, but behind the bush, the main thing is to remember about 15 meters. To make sure that the bush hid you, turn the camera the way the intended enemy sees you. Your silhouette should be completely outlined in gray.

What is "camouflage"?

Disguise- This is the ability of a tank to remain invisible to the enemy. It helps you attack the enemy with impunity or hide from him, so that he will not see you. They camouflage tanks to hide from enemy vision.

How long is a detected target visible?

After the visibility rays intersect with the tank's body and it becomes visible, the tank will remain visible from 3 to 10 seconds (the time is chosen randomly), even if the rays no longer reach it. (A tank that drives behind a house will not disappear immediately. The illuminated tanks will be visible for some time after the death of the scout.)

What is the visibility of the tank?

The review indicated in the technical specifications is a review of a 100% crew with installed coated optics (as well as the rate of fire is indicated with a rammer).

Is detection enhanced when viewing beyond 445m?

Yes. You will not be able to see further than 445m, but your skill in detecting camouflaged targets will improve.
Example:
On one side is a Panther tank, on the other side is a Leopard tank. Both tanks are in top configuration, with 100% crew, but without the Masking skill. The leopard approaches in first gear.
A panther without a stereo scope detects a leopard from 345m.
A panther with a stereo scope detects a leopard from 430m.
As you can see from this example, a review of more than 445m also makes sense.

How often does visibility check occur?

The frequency of visibility checks is as follows:
within a radius of 50 meters - on each tick (0.1 s)
within a radius of 150 meters - twice per second (0.5s between ticks)
within a radius of 270 meters - once per second
within a radius of 445 meters (maximum radius of unmediated visibility) - once every two seconds (2.0 s between checks)

When is a tank considered invisible?

The tank is considered invisible if there are bushes/trees/houses/mountains/etc. completely hide your silhouette (blue dimensional dots) from ALL opponents whose rays reach you.
True, it is worth noting that bushes and trees, at certain distances, cease to camouflage the tank, and at a distance of less than 50 meters, to simplify the system, it is assumed that tanks see each other in any case.

This means that at a distance of less than 50m, the tanks turn on “X-ray”, which sees through any obstacles.

How is detection done in the game?

From a tank within the visibility radius specified in the technical characteristics, invisible rays are sent to all enemy tanks that fall within this radius. There are 6 rays going into one tank at once. The tank is considered visible if at least one beam reaches the overall (blue) point. Now the “body” of the tank in the visibility system will look like this (all blue dots are static relative to the geometric center of the tank)

All tanks have 2 viewpoints

Viewpoints do not work simultaneously, but one at a time, every tick. The first tick is with one “eye”, the second tick is with the second “eye”, the third tick is again with the first “eye”. The time between ticks ranges from 0.1 seconds to 2 seconds, depending on the distance between the tanks.
The view for both points is considered to be a ball with a fixed radius, in other words: The Tank sees in all directions/directions equally well from both view points. The maximum detection radius is 445m, while enemy tanks illuminated by allies can be seen at distances of up to 700m. Artillery, in artillery mode, sees illuminated targets at any distance.
UPD: According to Serb, the engine does not guarantee visibility greater than 445m. That is, you can still see the enemy at a distance of up to 700m, but it is not a fact that this will be the case on all maps and in all situations.

How to hide in several bushes at once?

The central beam is the beam to the highest point of the tank (roof of the tower, etc.), so in this case we should assume that all the bushes are higher than the height of the tank:

In the picture, if anything, there are not four tanks, these are 4 possible positions of one tank. If each image showed a different tank, then everyone would see you, thanks to radio communications.

Does the effect of camouflage increase immediately behind several bushes in a row, standing one after another?

When a tank fires, its visibility is no longer affected by all bushes within a radius of 15 m, except for the bush that has the greatest coefficient of influence on the tank's stealth - this happens for each line of sight from the enemy tank's point of view to the overall point of the firing tank.
Example:
You are standing in a large number of bushes, some within a 15m radius of you, some beyond 15m. There are two enemies to the left and right. At the moment of the shot the following happens.
1. For each ray of visibility that the first enemy fires at you (6 rays in total, one for each dimensional point), the densest bush is determined and visibility is calculated. Whether the enemy saw you or not.
2. The same is done for the second opponent.
Points 1 and 2 are calculated simultaneously. And if at least one of the two enemies managed to see you, then they will both see you (if the walkie-talkie allows it).
In this case, all bushes located beyond 15m will simply enhance the influence of the bush that was chosen to calculate camouflage at the time of the shot. So a series of 2 bushes within 15m will work like 1 bush, and a series of 2 bushes, partially located beyond 15m, will give high stealth, but will deprive you of the ability to see the enemy yourself.
The player is faced with a choice:

Or watch the enemy yourself and, after shooting, there is a high probability of revealing yourself. Or be well camouflaged, but without the help of allies, completely blind. Therefore, a competent light (scout) is an important part of the game.

How to hide in the forest?

Trees are camouflaged only in a vertical position (both the trunk and crown of the tree camouflage the equipment). Camouflage in the forest has the same principle as camouflage in several bushes. If the lower part of the trunk is too exposed, then a large number of trees will be needed for camouflage, as in the example at the beginning of the article.

The fallen tree, for now, does not disguise the tank in any way (consider that this tree is no longer there).

How to remain invisible in the forest and bushes for as long as possible?

A shot (to a greater extent) and body movement (to a lesser extent, including moving in place) unmasks your tank for the next 5 seconds, so to achieve the maximum effect you need not to move the body (the turret is possible) and not to shoot at the enemy. You can also use a camouflage net and upgrade the corresponding skill from your crew members.

How does a camouflage network work?

The effect of the camouflage net does not work while the tank is moving and for 3 seconds after it stops. For the camouflage net to turn on, you need to not move the tank's body for 3 seconds; any subsequent movement will again require 3 seconds of rest to turn on the camouflage net.

How does the disguise skill work?

Skill disguise always works! And standing and on the move and during shooting. It reduces the visibility radius of the tank. That is, if an enemy with a visibility radius of 400 meters is looking at you, and you have upgraded this skill, then detection will not be at 400 meters, but at a closer distance. Also, if you are hidden in the bushes, this skill allows you to reduce the chance of being noticed after being shot.

What movements affect camouflage?

Movement of the tank hull (in any direction), as well as rotation of the tank in place, reduces camouflage by 2 times. Turret movement does not affect camouflage in any way and does NOT cancel the effects of the camouflage net.

Does movement speed affect the visibility of a tank?

No. A slow tank will be as noticeable as a fast one.

When is the camouflage of a stationary tank activated?
For all vehicles (except for top-end light vehicles), visibility while moving is 2 times higher than visibility while standing. As soon as the tank stops, the camouflage skill, unlike the camouflage net, immediately increases by 2 times.

Does the effect of the camouflage net and the camouflage skill stack?

Yes, it adds up.

Question: Did I understand correctly, the stealth of a tank can be 125? those. 100% crew + 25% grid?

Answer: Let the tank's standard stealth be 20%. Then the grid will give EMNIP + 25% (then the grid will be changed), totaling 20% * 1.25 = 25%. If the crew's camouflage skill is 0%, stealth will be 12.5%. At 100% skill - 25%. Then the visibility is 87.5% and 75%, respectively.

Is it necessary to hide a tank's gun?

No, there is no need to hide the weapon. If only it peeks out from the bushes (or from behind the house), the tank is considered invisible.

Does detection during firing depend on the caliber of the gun?

Yes, the larger the caliber, the higher the chance (the distance from which the tank will be guaranteed to be unmasked) of detection at the moment of firing.

The shot fires more (than movement) due to the fact that the opacity of the bushes within a 15m radius after the shot decreases (in addition to the actual benefit to the visibility of the car). This mechanism has been working since the summer, only the drop in stealth has been increased (in patch 0.6.2.7 the visibility of all guns when fired has been increased by 20%).

The presence of a muzzle brake also plays an important role (with it the tank is much more noticeable when shooting).

Does detection during firing depend on the type of projectile?

No, all types of shells, when fired from one gun, unmask the same way.

Class bonuses and their impact on tank camouflage in World of Tanks

Tank destroyers have an additional camouflage bonus that helps them remain invisible at closer ranges. However, this does not mean that all tanks should be less noticeable than tanks. The visibility of a PT is determined in the same way as other equipment, but with the same height (and width) the PT will be less noticeable. Its maximum camouflage is not 125%, but a little more (As far as I remember, PTs receive about + 20-25% to camouflage and the output is 145-150%).
In patch 0.6.2.7, the visibility of heavy tanks of levels 8, 9, 10 has been increased by 25% (both standing and on the move).
In the same patch, the visibility of top (level 4) LTs on the move became as low as when standing.

Question: Is it true that now the camouflage of a leopard in motion is higher than in a standing position?

Answer: No. Its camouflage in motion and in a standing position is the same - this is a specific feature of all top light tanks.

Is there a difference between tanks of the same class? What is "visibility"?

Yes, the size of the tank affects overall visibility. Each tank has its own visibility coefficients, and it is these coefficients that are changed by the “Camouflage” skill and the “Camouflage Network” module. 100% visibility means that the tank will be visible at the maximum viewing range. 0% visibility means that the tank will only be visible from 50m.

Question: does the camouflage skill affect camouflage only after stopping or while moving?

Answer: On the move too. It’s just that the basic visibility value is higher there. Roughly, if passport stealth is 20, then with 100% skill of the crew at a standstill there will be 20, while moving 10. And if the skill is 0%, then at a standstill 10, while moving 5

Examples: During the test, a bison with a crew of 75% detected the MS-1 at a distance of 284m, and the German and American counterparts from 304m. Another test showed that there are no differences between the Refrigerator (Su-14) with and without camouflage. In general, tests have shown that the visibility of a tank is tied to its dimensions, or more precisely to its height.

Calculation of tank camouflage in World of Tanks using an example

If a tank has a stealth coefficient of 20%, then its stealth will be equal to:

5% - On the go
6.25% - On the move +25% camouflage
7.5% - On the move +50% camouflage
8.75% - Nahodu +75% disguise
10% - On the move +100% camouflage

10% - Standing
12.5% - Standing +25% disguise
15% - Standing +50% disguise
17.5% - Standing +75% disguise
20% - Standing +100% disguise

12.5% - Standing + mesh
15.625% - Standing + mesh +25% disguise
18.75% - Standing + mesh + 50% disguise
21.875% - Standing + mesh +75% disguise
25% - Standing + mesh +100% disguise

Important! Different players have different modules, different crews and different damage. In battle, the game view of tanks ranges from 50 to 650 meters. Therefore, in one case you may not be seen in a field from 100m away, but in another you may be found in the bushes from 300m away!

  • Forward

Detection and camouflage- the most important elements of game mechanics. The knowledge gained from this article will help you understand how to act correctly in order to be the first to detect the enemy and hide from him more effectively. Both are extremely important in order to seize the initiative in battle and have the right to the first shot.

Review and discovery

Review of each combat vehicle is calculated in meters and indicated in the performance characteristics of each vehicle. The review value is indicated for a crew with 100% of the main specialty.

Visibility range in game

It is important to understand that on the battlefield the player sees not only those opponents that his tank discovered, but also those that his allies discovered. In this regard, it is necessary to distinguish between two concepts: detection range and visibility range.

Detection range- this is the maximum distance at which the tank can detect the enemy. The game mechanics determine that it cannot exceed 445 meters. If, taking into account the equipment, equipment and skills of the crew, the viewing range of the tank exceeds 445 meters, then the extra meters are counted as a bonus, making it easier to detect camouflaged opponents. Visibility range- this is the maximum distance at which tanks, both allies and enemies, can be visible when detected by them. The game mechanics limit the visibility range to a radius 565 meters around the tank.

Basic ways to increase the detection range of enemies

Increased visibility range

Disguise

Disguise- this is the property of a technique to be invisible to the enemy. If there were no camouflage in the game, then opponents would always notice each other at their viewing distance (but no further than 445 meters), provided there is direct visibility. However, there are many nuances in the game that affect the detection of equipment, in addition to the review itself.

Aspects affecting camouflage

Equipment dimensions

Each combat vehicle has a stealth coefficient, the value of which depends on its sizes. For large tanks such as Maus or Jagdpanzer E 100, the coefficient will be minimal, and for compact vehicles with a low silhouette such as AMX ELC bis, Rhm.-Borsig Waffenträger - maximum.

Class Bonus

  • Light tanks from level 4 (except for the AMX 40 and Valentine) are equally invisible both while moving and when stationary, that is, movement does not affect their stealth. Some low-level tanks also have this bonus.
Actions Vegetation
  • Forests, bushes, trees, tall grass give a bonus to camouflage.
  • The vehicle must be completely hidden from the enemy, namely its overall points. If at least one is not hidden, the tank is unmasked. Therefore, caterpillars or a gun muzzle sticking out of a bush (building) will not affect your visibility in any way - there are no marker points on them.
  • At a distance of up to 15 meters, a bush (or other vegetation) becomes “transparent” to someone hiding behind it. That is, the tank itself can see through the bush, but its opponents cannot.
    • If the base (closest point) of a fallen tree is less than 15 meters away, then the tree in the sniper scope will be transparent, while if the distance to the center of the tree is more than 15 meters, then the tree will still be transparent in the sniper scope, but for survey rays this tree opaque
  • At the moment of the shot, all vegetation within a radius of up to 15 meters loses most of its camouflage properties, that is, the shot unmasks the tank.
X-ray
  • At a distance of 50 meters, opponents can see each other in any case. Even if there is a building between them.

How to improve the camouflage of a combat vehicle

And besides, with pumped Disguise:

  • Upgrade the skill of all crew members The Brotherhood of War.
  • Install equipment Improved ventilation.
  • Use equipment that gives +10% to all crew parameters for one battle Extra ration, Chocolate, Cola box, Strong coffee, Improved diet, Pudding with tea, Onigiri, Bays.

They complain about shooting bushes, others figured out the mechanics of the game and became these bushes themselves. Today we’ll talk about how to make your car truly invisible. To improve a car's camouflage, you need to upgrade it, but if you upgrade your brain, you can improve stealth in another way. You will need everything that is under the harp, a bush, a small bush, a very small bush, a tree, a fir tree, a palm tree.

Each such object gives a bonus to the stealth indicator, small bushes and plants without foliage, as a rule, add less (+ 25%), dense plants with foliage exactly twice as much (+50%). But what do these numbers mean? It’s all very simple; in the formula for determining the detection range, they are added to the stealth indicator of the vehicles.

Let's look at a specific example, take an observer tank and three vehicles with the same camouflage, we place the first on a sterile clean straight line, hide the second behind a translucent bush, and the third behind a thicker one.

We let the observer go ahead and look, the first car is illuminated already from 383 meters, the second is illuminated 100 meters closer, and the third when there are 183 meters left before it.

We return the observer to the starting point and let him forward again, the other tanks remain there, but are now moving. The red car glows from almost 400 meters, yellow from 299 meters, green from 199 meters.

And what will happen if you shoot, in theory everything is clear, the bushes again give a huge head start, but what about it in practice. We place the observer at the viewing distance of the first car and see that after the shot all the cars immediately lit up.

The fact is that when fired, not only the camouflage of the tank itself drops, but also all vegetation within a radius of 15 meters from the shooter becomes transparent and does not provide any bonus to camouflage, the drop in both detection range indicators lasts a split second, and this is enough for you to lit up.

Now let’s turn on our brains and roll the tank 15 meters away from the bushes, it’s very easy to do, go into sniper mode (Fig. 1) and drive away until the bush becomes opaque (Fig. 2), you’re done, you can shoot.

The first car lights up as before, to illuminate the second you will have to drive 100 meters closer, the third will light up only from 237 meters.

If you want to shoot and not be illuminated for sure, do this: drive up to a bush, highlight the enemy, drive away 15 meters and shoot, drive up again, illuminate, drive away and only then shoot, it’s inconvenient, but safe.

We figured out one bush, but what if there are several of them, everything is very simple, the camouflage bonuses from each bush are summed up, but you need to remember that the maximum value of this sum is 80.

Based on the invisibility of your vehicle and the enemy’s estimated visibility, you can make an approximate conclusion about the distance from which you will be illuminated, in other words, if the camouflage of your vehicle is more than 20, then whatever the enemy’s visibility, you can only be illuminated through double bushes by X-rays, This is a real shooting bush.

If fir trees camouflage no worse than bushes, then there is a nuance with trees. The fact is that each such object has an invisible simplified model, it may differ slightly from the visual one, but it is this one that hides your car from enemy line of sight.

As you can see, models of fir trees and bushes are perfect for camouflage; to hide a car behind a tree, it will have to be knocked down, this is how it looks from the point of view of the visibility system.

A tree fallen into a bush or two trees fallen side by side work on the principle of double bushes; using the same principle you can hide behind palm trees.

Sometimes it makes sense to knock down a tree; the bonus to camouflage will not increase from this, but a lying spruce will cover you from enemies in a larger sector.

But no matter how many trees you knock down, no matter how well you learn to hide, remember one simple truth, you won’t be able to sit in the bushes every time, if you want to win more often, seize the moment when you need to go forward and kill.

Camouflage is one of the most important elements of game mechanics in World of Tanks. It is advisable for every player to understand this topic for two reasons:

  • you need to understand how to act correctly in order to be able to detect the enemy before he detects you;
  • know how to properly hide while avoiding backlight.

We suggest you familiarize yourself with the main nuances associated with camouflage in order to take the initiative in battle and get the right to the first shot.

Review is an integral part of the topic of camouflage. It is this that influences the distance from which the car will be detected.

An overview of each vehicle is displayed in meters and is indicated in the tank's performance characteristics.

In battle, the player sees not only those enemies that he personally discovered, but also those discovered by his allies. Therefore, it is necessary to distinguish between two concepts:

The self-propelled gun in the artillery sight sees detected enemies at any distance.

You can increase your review rate in the following ways:

  1. Equipment installation: coated optics+10%, stereo tube +25%, improved ventilation +2,15%.
  2. Learning skills. Commander - eagle eye +2%. Radio operator - radio interception + 3%. For the entire crew - combat brotherhood +2.15%.
  3. Equipment. A national dish+10% to crew skills will add +4.3% to vision.

If the tank’s visibility, taking into account the effects of the crew’s skills, equipment and equipment, exceeds 445 meters, then all subsequent meters will be used to unmask the enemy, that is, they will facilitate the detection of camouflaged enemies.

How detection occurs

In battle, each tank sends rays invisible to our eyes in the direction of the rest of the equipment located within the viewing radius of the performance characteristics of your vehicle.

If the beam of your tank reaches the overall (blue) point of the enemy, then it is detected. Using the IS tank as an example, consider the position of these points:

Each tank has two vantage points, which can be used to detect enemy vehicles. That is, there is no need to move out from behind the cover with your entire body; it is enough to show only the following points shown in the figure:

These viewpoints work in turn, after a certain time period - tick. The time between ticks depends on the distance between the vehicles and ranges from 0.1 to 2 seconds. The view from these points is assumed to be a sphere with a fixed radius, so the machine sees equally in all directions from each view point.

The overall points on the vehicle are designed to provide other players with the opportunity to illuminate your vehicle (these points project visibility rays), and at the same time, observation points are designed to detect enemy tanks (viewing rays emanate from them, which are equal to the maximum viewing radius according to the specified performance characteristics of your vehicle).

How long is detected equipment visible?

After the moment of intersection of the observation points of one tank and the line of sight of another, the second tank will be in the light for up to 10 seconds, even if the visual contact between the line of sight with the viewing points has been interrupted. Therefore, if an illuminated car drives into a shelter, it will still not immediately disappear from sight. Also, tanks will remain exposed if the tank transmitting intelligence data received a shell shock to the commander or was destroyed.

Disguise

Camouflage is the ability of every vehicle to remain unnoticed by the enemy. The lack of camouflage would lead to the fact that players would constantly see each other within the tank's viewing distance, and the battle could become a kind of shooting gallery. However, in WoT there are many nuances, in addition to overview, that affect the likelihood of finding a vehicle.

Aspects affecting camouflage. When is a tank considered invisible?

Size. Each vehicle has its own stealth factor, which primarily depends on its dimensions.
Heavy tanks, like , or heavily armored ones have minimum values, and small vehicles with a low silhouette, like , have maximum values.

The caliber of the gun and its dimensions affect the drop in camouflage after a shot:

Vegetation. Elements of the natural environment around us: bushes, tall grass, forest and trees provide an excellent bonus to the stealth of the machine. It is important to hide the body from the enemy, since there are dimensional points at which detection occurs.

Caterpillars or the muzzle of a gun peeking out from behind a building/bush will not affect your visibility in any way, because there are no marker points there.

At a distance of up to 15 meters, the vegetation becomes transparent to the hiding player. Thus, he sees through the bush, but his enemies cannot.

For example, if the distance to the nearest point of a tree you have covered does not exceed 15 meters, then this tree will become transparent in the sniper scope. If the distance to the center of the tree exceeds 15 meters, then the tree itself will still remain transparent in the sight, but for viewing rays it will be opaque.

How to hide in the bushes correctly

The bush in the game is a translucent object that increases the camouflage of the equipment hidden behind it. When an enemy tank approaches the base of the bush at a distance not exceeding 15 meters, the bush will become transparent for him and he will also be able to aim through it without obstacles.

The size of the bush is important: large tanks standing in low bushes will be visible from the tower. The visibility will not be affected in any way by the depth of entry into the bush; it is enough to even stand behind it. The only thing you need to remember is the distance of 15 meters. To make sure that the tank is securely hidden behind a bush, it is enough to turn the camera towards the intended enemy to see yourself from the side through his eyes.

To achieve maximum effectiveness from camouflage using a bush, you can position yourself behind it at a short distance, but so that the bush does not become transparent for you in a sniper scope and shoot at the enemy solely by his silhouette. In this situation, the likelihood of detection is minimized.

Does the stealth effect increase if you hide behind several bushes next to each other?

After the shot is fired, the stealth of the vehicle is no longer affected by all bushes located in the area of 15 meters, with the exception of one, which gives the largest bonus to the stealth of the vehicle. This mechanic applies to each line of sight from the vantage point of the detecting tank to the overall point of the one firing.

Let's consider an example for a tank located among a large number of bushes. Some of them are within 15 meters of your tank, while others are further away. One enemy tank comes at you from each side. After your first shot the situation looks like this:

  1. There are only 6 rays of visibility for each dimensional point, so for each ray that comes from the first enemy vehicle, the densest bush is determined (it is from this that visibility will be calculated).
  2. The same situation repeats with the second enemy.

In this case, both points are performed simultaneously. When one of the enemies detects you, the second one will immediately know about it (if the communication range allows you to report the detection). All bushes located beyond 15 meters will enhance the effect of the bush chosen to calculate camouflage at the time the shot was fired.

Bushes in the game are distinguished between dense and sparse, and the bonus to stealth directly depends on this. The maximum effect can be obtained from 4 dense bushes.

Actions. When stationary and not opening fire on the enemy, the vehicle does not receive penalties to camouflage. While on the move, the stealth coefficient of a vehicle decreases:

  • by 75% for medium tanks;
  • by 60% for anti-tank self-propelled guns;
  • by 50% for heavy tanks and artillery.

Values are approximate, in some cases exceptions are possible.

The shot significantly reduces the tank's stealth level.
This parameter depends on the caliber of the gun and the presence of a muzzle brake - it further reduces the stealth factor when firing.
Before the shot:

After the shot:

Firing unmasks the vehicle and the vegetation surrounding you also partially loses its camouflage effect.

Fire. A burning car will glow across the entire map, like a Christmas tree.

Stealth before arson:

After the arson:

It also depends on the class of equipment.

X-ray. Regardless of your actions, at a distance of 50 meters, players see each other in any case.

How to increase vehicle camouflage

There are several options for increasing camouflage directly outside of combat.

Crew skills

Learn the Disguise skill for all tankers. This perk will increase the stealth of the vehicle by approximately 1.8 times (depending on the number of crew members). The skill works constantly: when moving, standing still and while shooting, which significantly reduces the radius of visibility of the tank. With upgraded camouflage, the enemy will need to get much closer to detect your tank.

The effect of the skill is not reduced when the crew is stunned.

Also, a small bonus will be given by studying “ Combat brotherhood».

How is the camouflage of a stationary vehicle activated?

On all vehicles, with the exception of light tanks (from level 4 and above), visibility in motion is twice as high as visibility in a stationary state.

How the invisibility of vehicles in motion is reduced:

After stopping, the level of the “Disguise” perk doubles.

Camouflage

Applying camouflage will provide a permanent bonus to the overall stealth coefficient depending on the vehicle class:

  • +2% for tanks and self-propelled guns;
  • +3% for ST and LT;
  • +4% for tank destroyers.

Other

Improved ventilation, national dish and pre-battle instructions can also slightly increase camouflage.

All of the camouflage effects listed above are cumulative.

As a result, the maximum level of disguise looks like this:

Brief summary

Using the SU-152 as an example, let’s see the difference between a tank destroyer with absolutely no bonuses and with improved stealth after firing:

The distance required for the enemy to detect an uprooted vehicle is 23 meters higher. Boom equipment and pre-battle instructions will add a couple of meters.

Comparison of the distance for exposure while stationary without firing:

The difference is 123 meters on a perfectly translucent straight line. This will at least give you the right to the first shot, the opportunity to inflict more damage in battle and increase survivability, and, accordingly, the chance of victory. Therefore, stealth must be upgraded.
