Innovations in the Unified State Exam 2018
This year, the Ministry of Education decided to change some rules for passing the unified state exam:
- The number of attempts to retake tests in core subjects (Russian language and mathematics) has been increased - up to 3 times per year, which depends on the desire of the participant.
- Questions that require an unambiguous choice of the correct answer are excluded from KIMs in history, social studies, geography, computer science and ICT (this was already done in 2015 with tasks in two compulsory subjects).
- History is given not in the form of test questions, but in the form of an essay on a relevant topic.
- Universities themselves can increase the passing scores for admission, which should not be lower than the number of points officially established in the region.
Such an update of the rules in 2018, according to psychologists, will reduce the psychological burden on participants in state exams.
Subjects and tasks for the Unified State Exam 2018

Let us note that the department considers rumors about the inclusion of a foreign language and history among the compulsory subjects for passing the Unified State Exam to be premature. This year the exam technology will change completely. Unlike previous years, forms and test materials will now be presented in digital format. Schoolchildren and graduates of previous years taking the exam will be able to personally see the process of printing assignments right in the classroom. Certain changes will be made to exam tasks (both compulsory and elective subjects). Places of registration for the Unified State Exam for graduates of previous years who wish to apply are approved by regional educational authorities, and those graduating this year must register at their place of study.

How to achieve high results?
The results of this year’s Unified State Examination can significantly affect graduates’ grades in the certificate, so you should think about how to increase the level of knowledge and achieve maximum results.
According to statistics, only half a percent of graduates show 100 percent results on Russian language exams, and another 25% receive high scores. Why such a low result? According to experts, this is due to the fact that:
- Schoolchildren lack skills in writing argumentative essays, in which they most often make punctuation and spelling errors.
- There are no phraseological units in the works of high school students that could bring them additional points.
Among the very common mistakes, experts also note the spelling of unstressed vowels at the root of the word, and although teachers repeat these rules to their students more than once, they still need to practice.
Things are even worse with mathematics. Despite the fact that 45% of examinees successfully pass the basic level, it is necessary to understand that it is much simpler than the profile level, the results of which are much lower than in the Russian language. Schoolchildren have big problems when solving problems in geometry, especially in the section of stereometry. Practice has shown that you can achieve high results in the exam if:

- solve economic problems,
- learn to determine the area of figures on squared paper.
History and social studies are very popular among elective subjects. However, the percentage of high-scoring students in these subjects leaves much to be desired. The Russian language is one of the compulsory subjects of the Unified State Exam. Without a positive exam result, the graduate simply will not receive a certificate of secondary education. All Unified State Examination tasks in the Russian language assume a good knowledge of the school curriculum and do not go beyond its scope. Nevertheless, the tasks are structured in such a way that they test a wide variety of students’ knowledge and their ability to work with text.
Testing and measuring materials (CMM) in Russian consist of two parts. The first part includes 24 tasks with a short answer or with a choice of the correct answer options. The second part involves writing an essay based on the text you read.
The second part of the exam paper asks you to write an essay based on the text you read. Let us immediately pay attention to the type of speech. Essay-reasoning. That is, your work should have a clear structure: thesis, arguments, conclusion. An essay on the Russian language is written according to a clear plan:

Fifth, choose two arguments to defend your point of view. Moreover, you will receive the highest possible score for this criterion only if one of the arguments is from fiction, scientific literature or journalism.
The second one could be from real life. You can, of course, give two arguments from life, but you will lose one point. Sixth, you need to draw a conclusion by summing up your thoughts. This is exactly the way we see the examination work being assessed when checking the work.

The duration of the Unified State Exam in 2018 will remain unchanged in all subjects except biology. The time for passing the biology exam has been increased by half an hour.

Graduates will take the Unified State Exam in Russian on June 6
Like last year, graduates are given 3.5 hours to work. There will be 26 tasks in the test. One additional task was added this year - in it you will have to find lexical errors in the text. You will need to edit one sentence, eliminating from it an extra word that is not suitable or interferes with the meaning of the speech.
The maximum number of points remains the same - 58. In order to consider the exam passed, you need to score at least 24 points. For admission to a university - a minimum of 36 points. For admission to the budget - as much as possible, because your rating during the competition will depend on this.
The first tasks are test ones. Here you need to be able to use the rules of the Russian language. Moreover, you really need to know the rules, since intuition may not help you in solving tasks.
The test will also include a creative task - an essay on a given topic. It is worth preparing for this part quite seriously, because the examiners take into account both the style and the fulfillment of all the requirements of grammar, vocabulary, punctuation, and the like.
How to find out the preliminary results of the Unified State Exam
From May 28 to July 2, 2018, the main stage of the state final certification (GCA) in school subjects takes place. A lot depends on the exam results, so it’s going to be an exciting period. We wish everyone good luck and the highest possible scores!
The Unified State Examination is conducted according to a unified schedule. All students will take an exam in a specific subject on the same day. For example, during the main stage, everyone takes the Russian language on June 6th.

For example, the results of the exam in basic level mathematics will be known before June 15, and in the Russian language - until June 25.

English is the most popular of the four languages taken as part of the Unified State Exam. The current test is almost no different from testing in 2015, with the exception of some improvements in the wording of the oral part task and the fact that the passing score for the entire exam has increased to 22 points compared to last year’s 20. Passing English is no more difficult or easier than German, French or Spanish . The structure of the Unified State Exam in English is also no different from the Unified State Exam in other foreign languages.
Testing is spread over two days. On the first day, the student takes a mandatory written part, consisting of four sections:
- listening;
- reading;
- grammar and vocabulary;
- letter.
There are a total of 40 tasks in the written part, and 180 minutes are allotted for them. If they wish, students can come on the second day of the exam and take the oral part, which consists of four tasks (to test speaking skills). You have 15 minutes to complete the oral exam.
It is worth noting that only for the written part you can get no more than 80 points.
