Once documents are submitted, verification will take 30 days. After successfully passing the test and fully meeting the applicant's requirements, a license to purchase a gun is issued, which is valid for 6 months. Within 10 days after receiving it, you need to buy a gun and bring a license to the same center in exchange for a permit. When purchasing a gun, one license stub remains in the hands of the seller, the other with the buyer. This counterfoil must be handed over to the LRO employee upon receipt of the permit. All that remains is to agree with the local police officer about a visit to inspect the place and conditions of storage of weapons at home with further entry into the protocol.

To obtain permission, no additional documents will be required except a passport and two 3x4 cm photographs.

Renewal of permit

The resulting document authorizing the use of a hunting rifle is valid for five years. After this period, it will need to be replaced with a new one. Renewal of the document must be completed in advance, no later than three months before the expiration date of the old certificate. In addition, the extension of a permit document is possible through the electronic portal of government services, an application for which can be submitted online one month before the expiration date.

If the permit has not been renewed within the prescribed period, the owner of the gun faces administrative liability: a fine in the amount of 1,000 to 3,000 rubles (depending on the period), as well as the seizure of the weapon by a police officer before he is granted an extended permit.

To obtain a permit with an extended validity period, you will have to wait 30 days.

How to store a hunting rifle

A safe for storing an unloaded hunting rifle must be made of metal or wood covered with metal; the weapon is stored together with cartridges. The storage location must have such characteristics as: resistance to burglary, fire resistance, strength, good capacity. High-quality locks will protect the safe from entry by unauthorized persons, which can lead to unpleasant consequences. It must have two locks, and there must be a separate box inside for storing cartridges with a lock. The weapon storage box must be bolted to the floor or wall, or have an alarm. Inside, the safe must be equipped with various types of fastenings and clamps that will secure the weapon in a stationary state. The most reliable safe can be made to order, however, its cost will be very high.

The safe must be installed away from heating devices, no closer than 1-1.5 m from the front door and 50 cm from the window opening.

A local police officer has the right to visit private property no more than once a year in order to check the safe for storing firearms, the safety and functionality of its fastenings, lock, etc.

If the conditions for proper storage are not observed, the gun may be confiscated by law enforcement officers or penalties may be applied.

Rules for carrying weapons

Transportation of hunting weapons must be carried out disassembled, unloaded, inside a special case.

To purchase and store smooth-bore weapons, you must obtain the appropriate license. The entire obtaining process is multi-stage and usually takes no more than one and a half months.

Requirements for applicants

Applicants for licenses and permits are subject to a number of requirements:

How to get it through State Services - step by step procedure

4. Select and register at the nearest LRO, wait for the results of the application verification (no more than 2 days) and come to the LRO on the appointed day.
5. On the day of visiting the LRO, bring the original documents for verification, after which you will receive information about the date of issue of the permit (must not exceed 14 days from the date of registration of the application).

Extension registration

The permit must be renewed 3 months before the expiration of 5 years from the date of issue. To renew the permit, you need to contact the LRO to submit an application for this procedure. The following documents are attached to the application:

• Passport.

• Medical report based on the results of the medical examination.
• A copy of the license for the existing weapon.
• Receipt for payment of state duty.
• A document confirming completion of certification of knowledge and skills in safe handling of weapons (there is no need to undergo repeated training).

What happens if the document is expired?

If you have missed the deadline for submitting an application to renew your permit, the LRO may refuse to renew and fine you.

Responsibility

The Criminal Code provides for various types of punishment for illegal possession of weapons and use without permission depending on the severity of the consequences of such violation:

• According to Art. 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, if the violation did not have serious consequences, the following types of punishment may be imposed - restriction of freedom, forced labor for 4 years, arrest for up to 6 months, imprisonment for up to 4 years, a fine of 80 thousand rubles.
• According to the same Article 222, if there was a preliminary conspiracy between persons, a prison sentence of 2 to 5 years and a fine of up to 100 thousand rubles is imposed. If there are serious consequences, the term of restriction of freedom increases to 8 years.
• In case of improper storage (storage without a safe, in a living room where minors have access), the violation will be qualified under Art. 224 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation - in this case, the punishment is limited to a fine of up to 40 thousand rubles.

The Administrative Code also regulates the storage and use of weapons. In particular:

• For violation of the rules for storing, carrying or destroying weapons and ammunition, Art. 20.8 part 4 provides for a fine of five hundred to two thousand rubles or deprivation of the right to purchase and store weapons for a period of 6 to 12 months.
• Illegal acquisition, sale, storage, transportation and carrying of weapons, according to Art. 20.8 part 6 entails a fine of 3 to 5 thousand rubles with confiscation of weapons and ammunition or administrative arrest for a period of 5 to 15 days.
• Violation of the deadline for registering a weapon or the deadline for registering it is also an administrative offense under Art. 20.11 part 1 – punishment is provided in the form of a warning or a fine from 1 to 3 thousand rubles.
• Transportation and transportation are also regulated by legal norms, in case of violation of which a fine of 1 to 5 thousand rubles is imposed according to Art. 20.12.
