Classes have started. My level of German was quite high, so there were no problems. In Russian language and social studies - they were. The level of the teachers was so high that I spent several days preparing for each lesson. Little attention was paid to the Unified State Examination here. We were strictly forbidden to talk about how we were taught and what we were asked. I understood the main thing - I need to pass a medical examination, pass internal exams in the necessary subjects and keep quiet.

Everything is very strict with the medical commission - the slightest deviation and you are out of the game. Here everyone is really watching - in front of me they “wrapped up” a guy whose visual acuity was 1.2% below the required level. Guys with unkempt hair covering their ears are immediately shown the door. However, I passed this stage successfully.

The next test is a psychological test. For 4 hours, applicants sit in a special room and answer seemingly idiotic questions. For example: “How do you feel about death?”, “What do you do at night when you don’t want to sleep?” We were asked to solve several strange problems. They show you a picture of an apple tree. You can easily count how many apples there are. And next to the tree stands a girl with a basket. They ask the question: “How many apples does Masha have?” You need to choose from several intricate options. On last stage My head started spinning: the officer showed me 50 figures for 10 seconds, then mixed them up and asked me to arrange them in the original order. The third test is a polygraph. I already realized that the FSB's strong point is simple questions with a difficult overtone - so I was mentally prepared. Then I was informed that admission was over for me.

It was a shame that I didn’t get to the point of passing physical education and specialized subjects - I prepared a lot. But, apparently, I’m not so restrained and calm as to become a real FSB man.

A very right step is to enroll in courses at the Academy. This is good preparatory school, but not always sufficient. For example, I, speaking German at a native level, worked hard with a tutor in foreign, Russian and social studies for two years. I wanted to do it for sure and threw all my strength into it. Already from the first year, my illusions about studying there began to dissipate. A freshman immediately feels like he is entering the system. You know that your ten years are already planned out. The first five of them you strain all your strength, study. The second five you repay your homeland for free and one of the best education in the world. It is not simple. I'm really proud that I had the chance to study here. The level of linguistic, mathematical, physical and legal training is unlikely to compare even with MGIMO and Moscow State University. All graduates of educational institutions of the FSB of Russia upon completion of training are assigned a military rank: those who have received secondary education are ensigns, young men who have received higher education are lieutenants, and for the next 20 years they are employed throughout the Russian Federation. When candidates are admitted to a university, they are awarded the rank of private, and they, in fact, become military personnel. The first two years of training for cadets are counted as a year of military service. After one year of training, at the age of 18, they enter into their first contract and begin to receive their first salary, about 16,000 rubles.

- Do the guys have a choice after graduation where to go to serve?

As a rule, only the opinions of excellent students are taken into account. The rest go to serve in those units where they will be assigned. Therefore, there is an incentive to study well.

Does it happen that guys don’t want to get a military specialty, but follow the instructions of their parents to get a prestigious education? Or is it often their own choice?

It happens that parents consider it right to make a choice for their child, without taking into account the fact that young people finishing 11th grade are no longer children and can have their own views on their future profession. As I said earlier, in the first conversations I immediately find out the motives that prompted the citizen to contact us with the aim of enrolling in a university of the FSB of Russia. Thus, if during the conversation I understand that a person does not need this or he came out of idle curiosity, then why waste your and my time preparing to enter an educational institution where he will not study and receive an education that is not interesting to him ?

But the bulk of graduates still come, competently motivating their desire to join the FSB of Russia. Of course, providing military personnel with a social package, a decent salary, and free medical care plays an important role here. Upon graduation, young officers automatically become participants in the savings and mortgage system housing provision military personnel and three years after graduating from university while continuing their service, they can purchase housing under the military mortgage lending program in any region of the Russian Federation, i.e. the employee knows that when conscientious execution of his official duties, his family will be provided with comfortable housing. Not many employees of various civil organizations there are such conditions. I explain all this to the guys at their first meetings.

- How many people apply? Are there many people interested?

Every year, about 20-25 people from Karelia enter educational institutions of the FSB of Russia. And believe me, there are many who want it.
