A vibrant lowland biome with bushes and tall bamboo trees.

Lush swampy terrain with cypress trees and murky ponds with dead trees under an overcast sky.
Birch forest
A tranquil forest covered only with birches and clover.
raised bog
A deep, murky swamp covered in mud and thick, hanging trees. Slugs can spawn here.
Northern forest
Dense temperate forest with birch, oak and spruce.
Canyon
Hills and hollows of hard earth with trees and bushes on top.
Chaparral
Hilly terrain covered with small bushes and deposits of exposed stone.
Cherry Grove
A light green forest covered with pink and white trees, anemones, tulips and clover.
Coniferous forest
A hilly biome with tall conifers, grass and toadstools. In the depths there are less dense sections of forest.
Rock
Steep mountains with jagged peaks and dark water under a gloomy greenish sky.
Dead forest
A fairly empty forest with dead and dying trees.
Dead lands
Smoking ash, burning grass, dead trees, fire, blood-red water and deep holes. You can often find clusters of creepers here.
Dead swamp
Low-lying swamps with mud, dead trees and dark blue bodies of water.
Deciduous forest
Dense forest with tall trees and bushes.
Dry zone
Dry forest of red-brown flowers. Based on a glitch that occurs occasionally in Beta 1.7.3.
Dunes
High sandy hills interspersed with desert grass under a dusty sky.
Lowland marshes
A dying swamp forest with mud, cattails, toadstools and other swamp attributes.
Field
Temperate grassland with sparse trees but plenty of tall grass.
frozen forest
Forest covered with ice under a snowy sky.
Mushroom forest
A very dense forest with trees, giant mushrooms, slimy water and mushroom cows.
Rich meadows with a variety of flowers (including giant ones) and herbs. There is also a new mob here - a pink chicken.
Glacier
A biome covered with snow and dense ice.
Round green hills with an abundance of reeds and many ponds. Represents old swamps from Beta 1.7.3 and below (when they didn't look like swamps).
Grove
Flat forest with many bushes.
Wasteland
Flat terrain with many bushes, wildflowers and dry grass.
Highlands
Massive green hills and cliffs.
Ice Shield
Flat icy wasteland.

Jade Rocks
Winner of the biome competition. Spiny rocks with bushes along the cliffs and pine trees on top under a jade sky.

Represents the Beta 1.8 swamp, but without the dark grass/leaf/water and with the addition of cattails and taller trees.
Mangroves
Water covered forest with massive mangrove trees.
Maple Forest
Rolling woodland with red maples and occasional spruce trees.
Swamp
Areas of scattered grass in the water.
Glade
Hilly area covered with bushes and fir trees, with small forested areas.
Table Mountain
Brownstone mountainous terrain with desert grass and sandy orange sky.

High altitude fields with lots of puddles and mud under cloudy skies.

Hilly, dim forest with oak and spruce trees.
Mysterious Grove
A magical land with tall trees, blue grass and glowing flowers. It is a forest of magical trees under a mysterious pink sky.

Palm trees and ponds surrounded by grass.
Sinister Forest
An eerie forest with dark trees, flowers of death, dark purple grass and foliage under an ominous dark sky. Here you can find bats.
Orchard
Bright summer forest with yellow-green grass, anemones, clover, roses and dandelions. Orchard trees have a high chance of dropping apples.
Valley of the past
A lush valley reminiscent of Minecraft before biomes were added, with bright green trees, flat grass, and clear blue skies.
Outback
Interspersed with grass and hard sand, densely dotted with small bushes.
Pasture
A fairly flat field of barley.
Prairie
A lush field with a variety of grasses, anemones and rare trees.
Promised land
Found in a separate dimension along with new Amethyst Ore, Holy Trees and more!
To get to the promised land, you need to make an ancient staff (see recipe below). Using it, you will create a portal in the normal dimension at coordinates 0, 32, 0. Dig your way to the portal and enter it.
quagmire
A barren area of mud interspersed with grass, dead trees, murky water and overcast skies.
rain forest
Lush, dense forest with huge numbers of oak and birch trees covering the hilly landscape. Ocelots can be found here.
Redwood forest
Hilly landscape covered with huge redwood trees and bushes.
Holy springs
A hilly region covered in bushes and many waterfalls under bright blue skies.
Savannah
Flat, dry terrain with acacias, grass, bushes, wildflowers and the occasional clover.
Scrub
Dying ecosystem with bushes and other vegetation.
Seasonal forest
Forest of autumn colors with oaks and birches.
bushland
A flat clearing with sparse bushes and short grass.
A biome inspired by the Canadian Shield, with spruce trees, exposed rock, gravel along the shore and many lakes.
Snowy forests
A snowy version of a dead forest, but with more dead trees and fewer dying trees.
Spruce forest
Represents the taiga from version Beta 1.8 without snow, but with a lot of tall grass and trees.
Steppe
Flat terrain covered with dead grass interspersed with sand.
swampy forest
Something between a swamp and a forest; covered with tall rotting trees, bushes, dark green grass and dirt.
temperate forest
Hilly terrain with tall trees covered in moss, as well as willows and bushes.
Thicket
Dense overgrown forest with bushes and thorns that cause damage.
A tropical forest
Relatively flat landscape, densely dotted with broadleaf trees, orange asters and many ocelots. There are occasional watermelons and areas of tall grass.
Wet lands
A vibrant marshy area with willows, spruces, bushes, cattails and marsh flowers. Mud can be found along the banks.
Woodland
Dry forest with oaks and fallen tree trunks.

The Highlands mod was created to make exploring and living in the world of Minecraft more fun. It adds even more mountains and hills than Vanilla. On this page you can download a biome mod for Minecraft 1.7.2, 1.7.10 and other versions.
Highlands includes many different environments and sub-biomes that represent features such as mountains, lakes, forest clearings, valleys and islands. All tree saplings can be created in survival mode, so you can add a unique touch of greenery to your structures and landscapes, build an epic treehouse, or chop down enough tree to last a lifetime. They need to be researched to get them, moreover, you will have to collect different types of wood or find a tree to get your saplings before you can grow them.
Highlands also makes underground exploration more interesting. Most biomes added by this mod increase the volume of certain ores (usually twice the normal amount). So you can find a certain biome to mine diamonds and another to mine iron, but you won't find more than two types of ores in one biome. Try it and see for yourself which biomes have more ores.
