Life position

In the early nineties, the Izvestia newspaper published an article authored by Mikhail Ardov. In it, he spoke negatively about the beginning of construction of the Moscow Cathedral of Christ the Savior; Ardov even vowed never to go to this temple. More than a dozen books have been published under the authorship of Mikhail Ardov. "The Legendary Ordynka" was published in 1997 (Inapres publishing house). Mikhail Ardov was born into a creative family. Mother and father are talented actress and writer. His older brother on his mother's side is Alexey Batalov, also a famous actor. For some time it was not published at all, only sometimes collections of humorous stories were published, but this, according to Mikhail, was a drop in the ocean. At that time, all satirists were punished, and Victor was not even published in the Krokodil magazine, of which he was one of the founders and for some period served as editor-in-chief.

Viktor Ardov fully felt the yoke of Soviet censorship. He wrote several scripts for films, and his plays were staged at the Satire Theater. However, all these small joys occurred on top of family tragedies. Olshanskaya’s parents were arrested precisely at this time; they could not bear the hardships of prison life. My grandfather on my father’s side was shot back in the twenties.

Father's influence

The media at that time also published articles only that were pleasing to the government, which is why Mikhail Ardov, whose biography and personal life were always very eventful, never worked in journalism. When he entered the journalism department, he almost immediately switched to the editorial and publishing department, precisely out of a desire to be away from radio and newspapers. After graduating from Moscow State University for a year and a half, his place of work was the department of satire and humor at the All-Union Radio.

Mikhail Ardov received baptism at a fairly late age and says that this happened partly under the influence of Akhmatova and all Russian literature in general. Quite quickly he realized that at that time there were very few good priests around, and he could replenish their camp. He admits that even life became easier, since many secular laws of life did not apply to clergy, they did not go to party meetings, they were treated as crazy or as swindlers. However, Ardov tolerated this easily.

In the nineties, he, along with like-minded people, believed that if communism falls, then all clergy should repent for “their behavior”, for indulging the authorities, but nothing happened. Ardov, together with a group of people, decided to join the Russian Church Abroad, but, according to him, it soon practically dissolved under the close supervision of the KGB.

Religion and creativity

Since Mikhail Ardov was ordained, he has not written works of art, only journalism and memoirs. He compares himself to Tolstoy, who stopped writing novels when he stopped being interested in love stories. Ardov says that once during a long flight to America he took with him a volume of Anna Karenina, but could not read it due to lack of interest, although the book is truly brilliant. But he loves to read memoirs.

He considers the religious component in books to be superfluous, so there is no emphasis on it in his work, perhaps that is why the clergyman’s books are so popular. He considers all his ideas from the everyday side, and not through the prism of religion.

Let's look at it in detail. So, first Ardov expresses his admiration for the work of M.A. Bulgakov. The archpriest notes the “Diaboliad”; this work in metaphorical form can be interpreted as an identification of the devilry and the early Soviet Union. Archpriest Ardov interprets the novel in the spirit of not accepting blasphemy, but for part of the identification of evil spirits with the Soviet system, he calls the novel a masterpiece. How blasphemy and a masterpiece can coexist in the head of a believer at the same time is an open question.

In one of the next issues of the newspaper, Ardov’s text “The Lying Pen” was published, about the Soviet writer Marietta Shaginyan. In the text, Ardov expresses his negative position towards the writer, and this position is due to the fact that the writer was devoted to the “Lenin-Stalin cause.”

The central topic of the conversation was Stalin and repressions; in the conversation, Shaginyan defended Stalin. Ardov, through the mouth of his friend, tells an outright lie about 22 million killed. This lie about millions of people killed is read by millions of citizens who commute to work by subway. For the ignorant, internal emigration is an evasion from participation in the political and social life of the state as a consequence of internal disagreement with the dominant ideology; unwillingness to follow the given rule; spiritual alienation from the state; an alternative to real emigration. Mikhail Viktorovich, you served both in the Moscow Patriarchate and in the foreign Russian Orthodox Church. Now in your interviews you accuse both of them of being under the control of the KGB.

- But the foreign Church did not come to reconciliation with the Russian Orthodox Church, accusing it of betrayal?

But now she doesn't blame. There was a coup there in 1985, and the KGB brought them to this point in order to seize property and subordinate them to the Moscow Patriarchate. It's very simple - Russian officials want to seize the huge property of a foreign church abroad and gain influence on emigration. According to Lenin’s law, which is still in effect in our country, the Church has no right to property; all property belongs to the state. And our officials are very greedy. At one time, in 1948, when Stalin helped Israel gain a place in the UN and international recognition, the Israelis, in gratitude for this, gave the Patriarchate, or rather, the Soviet state, all the property of the Church Abroad, which was located on the then territory of Israel. Subsequently, Khrushchev exchanged part of this property for oranges, which rotted on the way to Odessa. Now the Jerusalem City Hall stands on land that once belonged to the Russian Church.

- In one interview, you said that you do not recognize Patriarch Alexy II. Is this really true?

Certainly. How can I recognize him if he belongs to an organization that was founded by Stalin and Beria in 1943? He is an exposed KGB agent nicknamed "Drozdov" and, moreover, was elected to this post by order of KGB Chairman Kryuchkov.

- Why is the current government getting closer to the Russian Orthodox Church, and not to Muslims?

Our bosses for the most part belong to the Slavic ethnic group. The number of people in Russia who in one way or another consider themselves Orthodox is quite large. There are actually no more than three percent of true believers. But I believe that this is a very harmful alliance both for the authorities and for the Church. More precisely, this alliance is, of course, tactically beneficial for both the Church and our embezzlers, but strategically it is a huge mistake both for the authorities and for the Moscow Patriarchate. In fact, if the Patriarchate were not a corrupt pseudo-religious organization, but a real Church, it would stay as far away as possible from these thieving officials. But, alas...

- It’s somehow strange: you are talking about the Patriarchate, which is considered to be something spiritual, like the White House.

It's worse than the White House. The people who are there - but in this case we are not talking about ordinary priests and monks - are completely corrupt, cynical, very often depraved, and among them there are even unbelievers. This is an ugly organization. The fact that they did not even take half a step, having received freedom, towards repentance, says that they are corrupt people.

- Why is the Church today closed from society even more than the army?

I wouldn't say it's very closed. It is closed in terms of income and in terms of corruption. No one is simply interested in her. Nobody needs it except those who are in it.

- As far as I know from knowledgeable people, there are intrigues there too, and what other ones!

Of course, and this is all material for compromising evidence. That's why they are closed. For example, in Novaya Gazeta there was a publication that when the generals stole the money received from the sale of Western Group property, they spent the money through a pseudo-church fund. The criminal case was not brought to an end because it was necessary to arrest Metropolitan Kirill and his assistants. The authorities did not agree to this. And as soon as the money passed through this pseudo-religious fund, it immediately disappeared. It is clear that such things need to be hidden. It is not profitable for the authorities to compromise the Church. This is such a mutually beneficial alliance. The same hierarchs do not denounce thieves-governors and thieves-officials. This is a business partnership.

- You know, what strikes me most when I come to church is the difference between icons and priests. The icons show sorrow, but the faces of the priests are well-fed and satisfied.

- We live in the last Christian times. The world is sliding towards the apocalypse at very high speed. The Moscow Patriarchate is not only a False Church because it was founded by the atheist Stalin and his bandit henchmen, but also because it belongs to the so-called “World Orthodoxy”, that is, it is connected with modernists, ecumenists, with all those who, in the end, will constitute the religion of the Antichrist. There are no more Orthodox patriarchs in the world now; they are all mostly “New Calendarists”; among them is the Moscow Patriarch with his entire synod and his bishops. This is already a parody of the Church, this is not the Church.

No. There is also a genuine Church. Besides us, there are “catacombs”. There are “Old Calendarists” Greeks, Romanians, Bulgarians.

- What happens - everyone beats themselves on the chest and says: “Here I am a true Christian, but everyone else is not”?

Did you think it would be different? This was all predicted by the holy fathers, and the Gospel says that there will be false Christs, that there will be false prophets. There has never been anything simple and easy in spiritual life. Of course, something was always wrong, but there were no such ugly times as now.

Mikhail Viktorovich, and if it turns out that your Church becomes close to the authorities, like the current Russian Orthodox Church, will you then tell the authorities that it is criminal, and that officials are embezzlers?

This is the reason why they will never bring us closer. And we will never go there. We don't need this. In my sermons I say that we do not pray for power. We pray for the suffering, for the country, for its Russian and Orthodox people. And the Moscow Patriarchate prays for power. We pray for the country, but we cannot pray for such a government.

- Vysotsky has a line: “The domes in Rus' were always covered with pure gold, so that God would notice more often”...

I think she's pretty vulgar. By the way, I don’t take any of Vysotsky’s songs seriously, only humorous ones.

- Was Tolstoy right when he argued that the Church does not need so much gold?

Of course it's wrong. Without the Church you cannot be saved. We must be careful to belong to the true Church. If a person seeks the truth, then he will find the true Church. And if he needs Christianity for some other purposes - for peace of mind, for relaxation, or for some other base purposes, then he will not look for the true Church, but will be satisfied with what he meets on his way, for example, some beautiful temple , pseudo-spiritual father. False eldership also flourishes in the patriarchy, which disfigures human souls. Many are drawn to this because Soviet people are infantile and are not accustomed to any choice or responsibility; they are very happy if someone commands them.

- But there is not much gold in your temple.

What kind of gold is there!.. We need to build, make a dome, a bell tower. For the fourth year now, we have been coordinating documents and an architectural design with Luzhkov officials. In my opinion, Luzhkov surpassed Kafka in many ways. Our money is spent not on gold, not on decorating the temple, but on bribes.

Judging by the literature, in Tsarist Russia society was very religious. And if you read religious literature, there were miracles. Why are there no miracles now? Not enough faith?

Miracles still happen, but no one notices them. And the audience that would watch this has narrowed. But there was a lot of bad things in Tsarist Russia. If everything had been so good, then neither Russia nor the Church would have collapsed. John of Kronstadt and his predecessors predicted what would happen to Russia if the Russian people did not repent and return to the fold of the Orthodox Church. This mainly concerned, of course, the educated class, the intelligentsia. But it was they who finished off Russia.

- Judging by the same literature, it can be assumed that by the 17th year the people were losing patience not only with the tsar and landowners, but also with the priests. It’s no secret that they were popularly called “world-eaters” or “parasites.”

The Russian intelligentsia, which is to blame for the national catastrophe, has been deliberately corrupting the people since the 19th century. The fruits of this corruption could not but be felt. There was such a wonderful bishop and preacher Ambrose of Kharkov. He said: “You can not only predict, but also calculate when a catastrophe will occur, when the fall of the Russian people will occur. This will be when there will be more people who are excommunicated from Christianity and are engaged in fashionable enlightenment than Christian moral people.” This balance was just disrupted by the 17th year. By that time, the best believers, loyal to their monarch, had died in the war. Then those moral people who joined the white movement were also either killed or forced to emigrate. So all this, as you see, was predicted. Even with amazing details. So, for example, somewhere in 1907, Archbishop Anthony Khrapovitsky, who later became metropolitan and founder of the Church Abroad, said in his sermon: “If there is no monarchy in Russia, then all nationalities will demand autonomy. Even such nationalities will demand autonomy. of whom we don’t hear anything now, for example, the Kazan Tatars.” This was predicted in 1907. But, unfortunately, Russian intelligentsia like Alexander Blok preferred to “listen to the revolution.” Well, we've heard enough.
