The press service of the Russian Embassy in Switzerland confirmed that the 19-year-old girl who died in an accident in the canton of Ticino is the granddaughter of Platon Lebedev, a person involved in the “YUKOS case”.

He was a partner of Mikhail Khodorkovsky, co-founder of MENATEP Bank and a member of the board oil company YUKOS. In 2003, Lebedev was found guilty of tax evasion, theft, and money laundering and spent 10.5 years in prison, being released in 2014.

The examination showed that Babayev, who is the son of businessman Mehraj Babayev and studied in Geneva in International Center MSU, was drunk at the time of the accident. After the accident he was expelled.

In 1989, the partners had already played enough of small entrepreneurs, and Khodorkovsky proposed the following plan of action. Under his leadership, MENATEP was created - a bank that was among the first to have the opportunity to work with currency.
In 1991, Platon Lebedev headed the bank, becoming its president. He and Khodorkovsky made enormous profits from working with currency. Shares were soon issued and quickly became popular. Many people have invested in this enterprise, but never received the promised large dividends.

A court case with political overtones

In 2005, Lebedev and Khodorkovsky were found guilty of all charges, but both did not agree with the verdict, refusing guilt. The court assigned Platon Leonidovich a term of restriction of freedom of nine years, but after the second Yukos case it increased it to thirteen.
In the fight for freedom
