Construction of a pattern for men's shorts for size 54. How to sew men's shorts.

With the ability to use a sewing machine, you can learn to sew anything at home without taking courses. Now not only all kinds of patterns are available, but also lessons for beginners and master classes. In general, mastering cutting and sewing at home is not a problem. Today we need a shorts pattern. To learn how to sew them, let’s look at this topic in more detail.

Patterns of different styles of women's shorts

1. The skirt-shorts pattern looks like this.

To construct the drawing, use the base pattern of a straight skirt. You will need its front and back parts with darts and side contours. Along the middle line of both parts, set aside the size of the seat plus 2 cm. Draw perpendicular straight lines relative to the middle lines through the marked point. Now we need to construct a step segment. To get its upper extreme point, you need to set aside from the middle of the back pattern along the seat size line a distance equal to 1 ⁄ 10 hip circumference plus 2 cm. The hip circumference value is taken from the skirt pattern. Move down 7 cm from the marked points. Then draw the lower border of the product. After this, we will draw pattern lines on both parts in the places where the middle of the shorts will be. The darts on the back part need to be adjusted. Remove the one that is closer to the side part, and move the other towards the side line (visually shown in the figure). Build extensions on the pattern sheets: on the front part it is 2 cm, on the back it is wider.

2. Classic model for girls.

Women's shorts: pattern is located below.

Let's take the trouser pattern as a basis. Transfer the drawing up to the knee onto paper; the lower part is not needed. Draw side lines, mark the size of the seat. Arrows show the direction of the thread. Then you need to change the step distance. To do this, place the front and back parts of the patterns on top of each other along the midline and increase the step length on the back piece, making it the same as on the front part. Reduce the bend of the pattern line on the back pattern by 0.5 cm.

3. Flared skirt-shorts in the photo.

4. Straight shorts with pleats at the front.

Shorts for men

Let's talk now about men's shorts.

For shorts with an elastic band, you will need to create such a pattern.

The following measurements are used for the drawing:

  1. half waist circumference 44 cm;
  2. half hip circumference 50 cm;
  3. shorts length 56 cm.

Here are the numbers used to construct the pattern.

The cutting is done taking into account the side seam. The allowance is 1 cm, except for the hem at the bottom - 3 cm and for the top edge 4 cm. A belt 8 cm wide is cut separately (on the finished model the width is 4 cm), which is sewn along the upper edge of the product. An elastic band 3 cm wide is inserted into the belt and sewn on the sides in a slightly stretched state. Punch holes in the belt and insert an additional lace.

What could be more comfortable than shorts for men on a hot summer day? Of course, you won’t go to work dressed like this, but for relaxing on the street and at home, this is exactly what you need. And buy expensive thing It’s not at all necessary, because the pattern is very easy to make, you can sew it yourself. To do this, you will need fabric, paper or construction oilcloth to model the workpiece, a machine and, of course, desire.

About cutting and sewing

The pattern of men's shorts is done in two ways.

First way

Modeling shorts on the main one Here you will need to calculate the length of the future product, make increases for a loose fit and remove the waist darts. The first two points are clear, but what about the last? There is nothing complicated about it. The fit of shorts at the waist is usually done with elastic and drawstring, while the leg in most cases is straight from the hip. Therefore, in order to align the outer cut of the trouser leg, you need to remove the dart. To do this, a perpendicular is drawn from its top to the bottom; along this line, the pattern of men's shorts is cut to the top and combined at the waist. Increases are made along the side seams so that the shorts can be easily put on.

If the style has a standard trouser fit and a zipper, then it will be enough to only adjust the length. This construction of shorts patterns is used by professional cutters.

Second way

It’s a little clumsy, but if you don’t have the basic trousers of the right size at hand, you simply can’t do without it. In this case, the pattern of men's shorts is done as follows:

Depending on the chosen style, shorts can be modeled using a pattern made in both ways. For example, it is easy to leave decorative slits in the side seams with rounded edges of the front and back halves. Side inserts made of contrasting fabric will look interesting, and these can be not only straight vertical lines. The pattern of men's shorts can be cut into several parts with smooth lines or sharp corners, but you should remember - the more shaped parts, the harder it is to assemble the product.

About color

A pattern on fabric is not always appropriate, but summer shorts are exactly the thing that will benefit from its presence. Floral patterns, vertical, horizontal and even diagonal stripes, camouflage-style colors and the most incredible models with embroidered fabric - all this fashion trend, living for many seasons. And combinations with such a thing can be the most unexpected. In their collections, designers offer to combine seemingly incompatible things, but the result is simply amazing. For example, a combination of a strict jumper with striped shorts, a jacket with embroidered capris, or a plain shirt with a model with a floral pattern. There are a lot of variations, so even the most capricious man can find his ideal summer option without changing his style.

The pattern for men's shorts with elastic was one of the first to appear on the site, which is clear from its serial number. The pattern was built, as I already indicated, for the cheerful knitwear in the mice.

Actually, this knitwear forced me to create a separate pattern, and not to dance from the existing one. The drawstring from which the shorts were made is a rather flimsy material for a man, but due to the increased width of the shorts, it turns out to be quite reliable.

The pattern should be suitable for sewing simplest men's briefs“family men”, if, of course, I remember them correctly. For panties it is better to use knitwear, but classic satin is also suitable.

Cutting men's shorts with elastic

The pattern for men's shorts is made without seam allowances; we will add them ourselves. The width of all allowances for sewing on a regular sewing machine equal to the width of the foot, for an overlocker - the width of the line. We cut the pockets with an allowance of 1 cm, at the top - 2 cm.

The pattern for men's shorts with an elastic band already contains a one-piece waistband and a hem; nothing needs to be added except for processing allowances.

We will cut out two front and two back halves; there may be one or two pockets. I sewed one with a zipper.

Sewing men's shorts with elastic

Like other belt patterns of this type, this one is extremely simple.

If we make a pocket, then we start with it. We iron the entrance to the pocket twice and secure it with parallel finishing stitches. We iron the remaining sections of the pocket to the wrong side by 1 cm. We transfer the location lines from the pattern

In the summer, your companion without men's shorts not enough! Particularly convenient in men's shorts on vacation - in shorts you can go to the beach, to a cafe, or to a youth disco!

And even if you have already purchased shorts for relaxation, sew another one according to our pattern- firstly, tailored to individual measurements men's shorts - a real exclusive, and secondly, to sit like this shorts will be perfect!

Men's shorts pattern

Before you start creating a pattern for men's shorts, you need to take the following measurements:

Half waist circumference - 44cm

Half hip circumference (buttocks) - 50cm

Shorts length - 56cm

Constructing a pattern for the front half of men's shorts

From point A to the right and down, draw horizontal and vertical lines.

Length of men's shorts. From point A, set down the length of men's shorts according to measurement - point H: AN = 58cm - length of shorts according to measurement + 2cm.

Step line of men's shorts. From point A vertically down, set aside 1/2 of the hip circumference according to the measurement plus 3 cm - point B:

AB=50/2+3 =28cm.

From point B, draw a horizontal line BG1 - the step line of men's shorts.

From point H1 draw a line parallel to line AT.

Waist width of the front half of men's shorts. From point A along the line to the right, set aside ½ the circumference of the hips according to the measurement plus 3 cm - point T: AT = 50/2 + 3 = 28 cm.

From point T, draw a perpendicular down; At the intersection with the step line we place point B1, and at the intersection with the length line - point H4. H4H2 is equal to 1cm.

We connect points H and H2 with a slightly concave line.

The width of the bottom of the front half of men's shorts. H2H3 is equal to 5cm.

Connect points A and T1 with a straight line.

Step width of the front half of men's shorts. From point B1 along the step line we set aside 1/10 of the girth of the buttocks to the right according to the measurement plus 0.5 cm and set point D: B1G = 50/10 + 0.5 = 5.5 cm.

Connect points B2 and G with a concave line, points G and H3 - connect with a concave line.

Additionally, build a one-piece zipper valance 4 cm wide and about 20 cm long along the length of the zipper.

The pattern for the front half of men's shorts is a green outline.

Construction of the back half of men's shorts.

Back seam of men's shorts. T1T2=2.5 cm.

Connect points G, T2 with a straight line and continue upward from point T2.

From point T2 upward we set aside 4cm and place point A1: T2A1=4cm.

Connect points A, A1 with a straight line.

Step width of the back half of men's shorts: GG1=4cm.

The width of the bottom of the back half of men's shorts: H2H3=3cm.

We connect points G1 and 2 with a curved line. G1G2=1cm.

Connect points H and 2 with a slightly concave line. Connect points A1 and G2 with a slightly convex line, as shown in the pattern of men's underpants (red line).

The pattern for the front half of men's shorts is a red outline.

Men's shorts are cut according to a pattern on fabric with a seam on the side. You can cut the shorts unfolded without a side seam, if the width of the fabric allows.

Additionally, cut out a belt 8 cm wide (4 cm in finished form) and length along the upper waist of the shorts.

When cutting shorts on fabric, make a hem allowance of 3 cm for the bottom of the shorts, 4 cm for gathering along the top, and 1 cm for all other seams.

An elastic band 3 cm wide is measured along the back of the waist with a slight tension (threaded into the finished belt along the back and re-stretched along the belt (on the sides)).

Punch blocks on the front of the waistband and sew a hook on the front. Additionally, insert a cord into the belt.

Even if you are a beginner seamstress, you can make simple clothes for your family. For example, these are men's knitted shorts in which you can walk around the house and put things in order. summer cottage! To sew such shorts, you can use any thin (summer) knitwear, but Lacoste is best suited. This is a “perforated” knitted fabric, which is most often used to make polo T-shirts. Lacoste is completely natural and very pleasant to work with: it will not stretch or deform like cool or other thin knitwear. So for beginners - exactly what you need!

How to sew shorts for beginners?

Materials and tools:

  • Lacoste fabric – 0.5 m,
  • Summer rib with elastane (elastic 1 by 1) - small cuts for the belt and burlap pockets,
  • Tailor pins,
  • Scissors,
  • Sewing machine,
  • Threads to match the fabric.

The shorts pattern is taken from the children's fashion magazine Ottobre (No. 1/2015). You can download the pattern. This is pattern #38 (knit pants that we turned into shorts), designed for heights from 134 cm to 170 cm. The pattern for a height of 170 cm is just right for a full men's size 50. So children's magazines are quite a profitable purchase, because you can also use them to sew adult clothes!

Manufacturing:

1. Cut out the necessary parts from the fabric. Ottobre magazine suggests making pants from pieces of fabric (the legs are divided lengthwise), but if you don’t have such a need, make one-piece legs. You should end up with 2 front leg pieces, 2 back pieces, 2 front pocket burlap pieces, 2 front pocket facing pieces, and 2 wide waistband pieces. It is better to cut the burlap pockets and belt from ribbed fabric, and the basic parts of the shorts and the lining of the pockets from Lacoste.

2. First of all, heat the iron and iron all the details to make sewing more convenient. Fold both parts of the belt in half and iron.

3. Fold the belt pieces right sides inward and pin the side edges on both sides. Connect the burlap pockets to the front leg pieces: do this along the pocket opening, also placing the fabrics face to face.

4. Sew the waistband on both sides using a scalloped knit stitch (it's great for knits and keeps the fabric from warping while sewing), then fold the waistband along the pressed fold. Sew the pocket cutouts using the same seam.

5. From the wrong side (the one where you stitched the folds of the pockets), use scissors along the seam and make transverse cuts on the seam allowances at a distance of 5-7 mm from each other. Thanks to this technique, the side of the pocket will look beautiful and neat and will not bulge.

6. Now you can turn the pocket entrances right side out and, tucking the burlap under the main part of the shorts, stitch the pocket entrance using a regular straight seam, 5 mm from the edge.

7. Turn the front piece of the shorts over so that it is wrong side up. On top of the folded burlap pocket, place a second pocket piece made of ribana - the pocket facing. Fold the pocket pieces so that they are face to face. Pin the edges of the pocket pieces together.

8. Sew the edges of the pocket with two parallel seams (for security and for additional finishing of the edges). Do the same with the second front pocket.

9. All the parts of the shorts are already ready, so all that remains is to connect them. Place the two front halves and two back halves of the shorts face to face in pairs and stitch along the curved seams. Next, stitch the side seams (join the front of the shorts to the back) and topstitch them, folding the seam allowances toward the front.

10. Unfold the ribbed waistband with the fold down and place its cut side against the cut of the top of the shorts. The waistband is slightly narrower than the top of the shorts, so it will need to be stretched a little and pinned to the top. Then sew the waistband to the top of the shorts using a jersey stitch.

11. Fold the allowances remaining from sewing the belt to the shorts down (towards the main part of the shorts) and stitch along front side, retreating 5 mm from the previous seam. Thanks to the stitching, the product will look neater.

12. Now pin the crotch seam (from the bottom of the left leg through the center to the bottom of the right leg) and sew it on a machine. Fold the bottom edge of both legs twice and sew with a straight seam parallel to the edge.

Knitted men's shorts are ready! The rib with elastane holds its shape quite well, but for reliability you can also put a wide elastic band or lace with ties into the belt. It will turn out both practical and beautiful!
