Memorial days in September. Parents' Saturdays are days of special church remembrance

Parents' Saturdays in 2017 are dedicated specifically to honoring the dead. A person is worth remembering and should be remembered even after death. And loved ones can remember them; that’s what parental Saturdays are for. These are several special days, which begin on February 18th. The dates of memorial Saturdays shift, so it is worth updating the calendar annually.

Every family has someone who has died, someone to cry for and someone to remember. Orthodox Christians dedicate several memorial services special days, which are called memorial Saturdays in 2017. Their dates are constantly shifting, so it's worth keeping an eye on the calendar every year.

Memorial Saturdays

- will be on February 18, the first and most solemn among memorial Saturdays. the main task day, to remind everyone of the approaching Last Judgment. If you look at church chronicles, once upon a time the first Christians themselves introduced this tradition, when on February 18 they went to pray, wishing for the repose of their dead relatives and friends.

The tradition of family gatherings has been preserved, when believers set tables and prepare dishes for the deceased, too, as if they might actually come and join in the meal. It’s interesting how this resonates with the teaching that with the Lord everyone is equal, both the dead and the living. There are no dead people for him.

It is considered the 2nd week, because March 11 is already underway Lent. Parents' Saturdays for the Orthodox are a big event for the church. A large-scale service is being held dedicated to all departed Christians, no matter when they left this world. Temples also hold special memorial services at the request of believers.

It is considered the 3rd week, because fasting is still ongoing and the day for the memorial Saturday is calculated using them. It is also dedicated to the commemoration of all deceased family members, as well as friends and other Christians who adhered to Orthodoxy. The Church dedicates its services to them.

It is considered the 4th week, here you need to become especially close to your relatives, not only the living, but also the dead. Remember them, a day for repentance, remembrance, thanksgiving. After all, the dead lived, gave their love and care, they did not go in vain. They left traces in the hearts of loved ones. Death should not separate relatives forever, and the church teaches people not to be afraid of it, but to accept it as inevitable, helping Christians. We accompany the deceased and make their way there easier with prayers, and calls on the living to support each other.

A day intended specifically for visiting the cemetery. The remaining Saturdays of remembrance were only in church. People attend divine services, also Liturgy and a full memorial service, which are held by churches, and then go to the cemetery.

Important! Those who visited the cemetery probably saw on some graves, in addition to flowers, pieces of bread, sweets, or even a glass of vodka, bottles. Relatives leave this for their deceased relatives. Many people think this is the way it is. However, the church is strongly against it. For the deceased, only prayers are important; a person comes into the world naked, without material wealth, and leaves the same way. He no longer needs food, much less vodka. A similar custom was introduced in the USSR.

Of course, children are often left toys and sweets, there is nothing seditious about this for the church, but leaving vodka or black bread is not allowed. The deceased relatives only need the memory of loved ones, their prayers and services. Of course, it’s worth taking care of the grave, keeping an eye on the fence, weeding in the spring so that it doesn’t become overgrown with grass, and visiting occasionally. But it’s not worth bringing something expensive or food. Expensive things will attract thieves, and food will only spoil. Moreover, you cannot pour vodka or leave bottles. This is ugly and has nothing to do with funeral customs.

Alcoholic commemoration is permitted by the church, but it is only wine and not much. Radonitsa is celebrated on the territory of the cemetery; this is a long-standing custom.

It is believed that then the apostles told about the Savior to all pagans, also to Jews, calling him the great Judge for all the living and all the dead. On this particular Saturday, the Lord Almighty is ready to listen to the prayers of those languishing in Hell.

Previously, only the victims of Mamaia were remembered, only later they prayed for all the dead, excluding only suicides. You can visit cemeteries and have modest funeral meals. The Church calls not to forget about the dead. The main task is to remember everyone who died defending the Orthodox faith or for it.

Oh, he's not only fun party, Victory Day, when you should rejoice and remember the glorious merits of your ancestors, but one of the parents’ Saturdays will be on May 9. It is interesting that this day is not a Saturday, although it is marked on the church calendar along with other Saturdays. Then they remember the victims of the war, not necessarily just the forties and not only the soldiers, but also the civilians who also paid with their lives for the glorious day.

Parents' Saturdays all have moving dates, except for May 9, which is fixed. That's why it doesn't always come out on Saturday.

Important! Alas, if you have someone who died without permission, then you cannot pray for him along with others who died inside the temple. Only at home. Also, you cannot write the names of suicides and give them to the priest. It doesn't matter whether he knows about the fact of death or not. The Almighty sees and deception will not help the deceased. But you can pray for the unfortunate suicides yourself. At home, remembering and asking God to forgive them. After all, the church considers suicide a terrible sin.

Christians believe the soul is eternal. And she experiences several incarnations. When a body dies, it must be buried and special memorial services held. And give the soul time to say goodbye to its loved ones, leave the earth and move on. Living relatives can only help in one way: prayers. Moreover, you need to pray believing in the power of words, from the heart.

This is how people remind the Lord about their dead relative, asking for peace and mercy for him. After all, every person is a sinner; there are no absolutely holy and sinless people. Everyone has something to apologize for. The deceased can no longer pray on his own; he relies on relatives and through their prayers he becomes closer to the Father.

Therefore, the church specifically separates memorial days. You cannot pray during fasting, only on certain days designated by the church calendar. Then the priests themselves pray for the dead, helping their parishioners.

Memorial Saturdays require serious consideration; Christians usually look forward to them all year, especially those who have suicides in the family, because you need to pray for them carefully so as not to anger the Almighty further. The Church does not approve of revelry and drinking, especially on days of remembrance, when people take a lot of alcohol and in the end they no longer remember why they gathered.

The church calendar is an integral part of their life for every believer. So turning to church calendar You can learn not only about upcoming holidays and fasts, but also about the traditions of their implementation. Thanks to this calendar, you can easily and simply plan your schedule, highlighting work days, weekends, and most importantly for every believer, memorial days.

Memorial days are one of the most important for every person. After all, these days we remember our deceased relatives. Namely the deceased, since according to Christian beliefs only the physical body dies, but the soul lives forever. And the more we pray and remember our deceased relatives and loved ones, the easier it will be for them to face the Last Judgment.

Memorial Saturdays are popularly called parenting days. This special days to remember the memory of deceased relatives. They fall on different dates every year. Therefore, to determine parental Saturdays, it is best to turn to the lunar calendar.

On calendar year There are nine such Saturdays. The first memorial parental Saturday was the Ecumenical Meat Saturday. She arrived on February 18th. This is the only parent's Saturday for the entire winter season.

But in March of this year there were three whole parent’s Saturdays. The first fell on March 11, this is the second Saturday of Lent. The second Saturday fell on March 18 and this is, accordingly, the third Saturday of Great Lent. Well, the third Saturday fell on March 25, and this is the 4th Saturday of Lent.

In April there was only one parent's memorial day. And he fell, not on Saturday, as is customary, but on Tuesday. After all, it was on Tuesday, April 25, that the Orthodox celebrated the Radunitsa holiday. This is the biggest memorial day of the year.

An additional memorial day, the date of which remains unchanged, is May 9. It is on this day that not only our country and not only the Orthodox, but also other faiths commemorate the soldiers who died at the hands of fascist Germany during the Second World War.

As for summer period, then only one parent’s Saturday falls on it. But it took place on June 3, the day before the great holiday of Trinity. But in July and August there were no memorial Saturdays. At the same time, memorial procedures were carried out during major holidays.

But on autumn period There are two parental Saturdays. One of them has already passed. But, as in the situation with spring parenting days, it did not fall on Saturday at all. So, this parental memorial day fell on Monday, September 11th. But it was dedicated to the deceased Orthodox soldiers.

Well, the last parental memorial Saturday of this year falls on November 4 and is called Dmitrievskaya parental Saturday. But, since this Saturday coincides with the celebration of the Kazan Icon Mother of God, then it was decided to move this funeral Saturday on October 28.

The celebration of Radunitsa or parent's day is a spiritual celebration of the funeral of the dead, which has its origins in primitive pagan times. Orthodox religion supported this tradition and included it in the list of Orthodox Christian holidays. In accordance with church statute, this festival is celebrated on the ninth day after the Resurrection of Christ on the second day of St. Thomas Week. This is the first working day after Clear Easter Week. If one or another celebration occurs on this day, the celebration of Radunitsa is postponed to the next day. Thus, in a similar way it is possible to establish the date of the celebration of Radunitsa in 2017. The Resurrection of Christ in Russia in 2017 is celebrated on April 16. We count down nine days and we get that the celebration parent's day will be April 25, 2017.

HISTORY AND CUSTOMS OF CELEBRATING PARENTS' DAY.

These celebrations were celebrated among the Slavs in ancient times. At first, the very name Radonitsa (radonitsa, funeral feast) referred to deities who embodied the veneration of the dead, guardians of the souls of deceased ancestors. Sacrifices were made to the Radonians, abundant celebrations and libations were held in their honor on the funeral hills, so that the deceased could appreciate the respect with which the survivors treated him. Over time, the term “trizna” began to mean a memorial, and “radonitsa” - the spring commemoration of the dead. This custom was adopted by the Russian Orthodox Church. The word “radonitsa” comes from a combination of the words “joy” and “kind”. This celebration occupies a prominent place immediately after the celebration of Light Easter week and obliges Orthodox believers not to indulge too much in sadness for those who have passed into another world, but to rejoice in their eternal life together with the Lord God. The whole Christian world celebrates Christ's Resurrection, his triumph over earthly death, and then, nine days later, believers celebrate the rebirth of their ancestors, relatives and friends to a new life, remembering them on a special day - Radunitsa. Death in Christianity is associated with eternity, souls have no term, they live forever in heaven and rejoice for living people. The rebirth of Christ, as a symbol of the victory of life over death, displaces the sadness of parting with loved ones.

“They plow in the radon field in the morning, cry during the day, and jump in the evening,” that is, they engage in various types of work, visit burial sites and have fun in the evening. This celebration has long become a secular day of remembrance, in contrast to church parental Saturdays.

Cemeteries are areas consecrated by the church where the dead are kept awaiting the upcoming resurrection. According to the customs and laws of pagan states and peoples, burial places were considered sacred and inviolable, violation of which was punishable by different kinds punishments. From ancient pagan times, a tradition has been preserved to mark the burial site by raising a hill over it. In furtherance of this custom, Christian church decorates the grave mound with the victorious sign of our salvation - a cross depicted on the gravestone or installed above the tombstone.

We call our dead departed, not dead, because at a certain time they will rise from the grave. The grave is the place of future resurrection, and therefore it is necessary to keep it clean and orderly.

Cross on the grave Orthodox Christian- a silent preacher of blessed immortality and resurrection. Planted in the ground and rising towards the sky, it signifies the faith of Christians that the body of the deceased is here in the earth, and the soul is in heaven, that under the cross is hidden a seed that grows for eternal life in the Kingdom of God. The cross on the grave is placed at the feet of the deceased so that the Crucifix is facing the face of the deceased. We must especially ensure that the cross on the grave is not askew, that it is always painted, clean and well-groomed.

There are only eight parenting days in a year and seven of them fall on Saturdays and are called parental Saturdays. Radunitsa 2017 is the most important of them for every Orthodox Christian. It reminds us to care for the souls of our ancestors. It is believed that this is a day of joy because the dead go to a new eternal life. The custom of commemorating the dead is not particularly followed in the Charter. It is based on the fact that on St. Thomas Week the descent of Christ into hell is remembered, and from Monday on St. Thomas Week, the Charter allows for the beginning of the celebration of forty-ones for the dead - the living rejoice in the good news of the Resurrection with the dead. It is imperative to know the date of parent's day in order to take the opportunity to remember your deceased relatives, friends and acquaintances, remember them, visit the cemeteries where they are buried and clean up the graves.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO ON PARENTS' DAY 2017?

Quite a significant number of people visit relatives and friends at the cemetery on Easter. Many, unfortunately, adhere to the tradition of accompanying visits to the dead with excessive consumption. alcoholic drinks. And those who don’t do this very often don’t even know when to Easter days it is possible (and necessary) to remember the dead. The first commemoration of the deceased after Easter takes place on the second Easter week (week), after St. Thomas Sunday, on Tuesday. And the widespread tradition of going to the cemetery on the Easter holiday itself is in conflict with the liturgical charter of the Church on the grounds that one should not allow a mixture of mournful funereal and solemn celebratory things: before the ninth day from Easter, commemoration of the dead cannot be performed. If a person passes into another world on Easter, then he is buried according to a special Easter rite.

At the same time, on Radonitsa there is a custom of celebrating Easter at the graves of the dead, where they bring Easter cakes, painted eggs and other Easter dishes. Traditionally, the number of dishes should be odd. There a funeral meal is served and part of what is prepared is given to the poor in the form of alms for the funeral of the soul. At the cemetery there is real, living, everyday communication with the dead. They share with them the joys and sorrows that have happened since the last visit to the cemetery. In addition, when you come to the cemetery on Parents' Day, you need to light a candle and pray intensely. To perform litia during the commemoration of the dead, a priest should be invited. You can also read the Akathist about the repose of the dead. Then you need to clean up the grave, be silent for a while, remembering the deceased. The Church condemns some folk customs happening on this day. There is no need to drink or eat in a cemetery, it is unacceptable to pour alcohol on a grave mound - these actions are offensive memory of the dead. The tradition of leaving a glass of vodka with bread on a grave is a relic of pagan culture and should not be observed in Christian Orthodox families. It is better to give food to the poor or hungry. Let them pray for our departed, and then the Lord may send some consolation to our relatives. But despite this, many people, like their ancestors, come to the cemetery to sip and pour for the deceased themselves.

Prayer for the departed is the greatest and most important thing we can do for those who have passed on to another world. By and large, the deceased does not need either a coffin or a monument - all this is a tribute to traditions, albeit pious ones. But the ever-living soul of the deceased experiences a great need for our constant prayer, because it itself cannot do good deeds with which it would be able to appease God. That is why prayer at home for loved ones, prayer in the cemetery at the grave of the deceased is the duty of every Orthodox Christian.

Commemoration in the Church provides special assistance to the deceased. Before visiting the cemetery, one of the relatives should come to the church at the beginning of the service, submit a note with the name of the deceased for commemoration at the altar (it is best if this is commemorated at a proskomedia, when a piece is taken out of a special prosphora for the deceased, and then in a sign of the washing away of his sins will be lowered into the Chalice with the Holy Gifts). After the liturgy, a memorial service must be celebrated.

In some regions Russian Federation Radonitsa was a day of home and church remembrance, when it was not customary to visit the dead in cemeteries. So in the north-east of Russia, as well as in some places in Belarus, they prepared a bathhouse for the dead, leaving water with a broom and clean linen for them, but they themselves did not wash or even enter the bathhouse. And in the morning they looked for traces of the dead in the ashes scattered on the floor.

Also on this day, the tradition of “calling out the rain” developed. Children used simple spells to summon the first spring rain. Folk omens claim that there was not a single Radonitsa Tuesday on which a few drops of rain did not fall. If after the spells it started to rain, then everyone began to wash themselves with “heavenly water”, which was supposed to bring happiness. If the first strikes on this day spring thunder, then young women and girls should wash themselves with rainwater through golden and silver rings. According to popular beliefs, this preserved beauty and youth for a long time.

TRADITIONS FOR RADONITSA.

Initially, this wonderful holiday was celebrated on some hill, hence the name Red Hill. For the festivities, the entire village gathered before dawn to honor the main deity - Yarilo. In the same place they organized cheerful celebrations with a rich table and many different entertainments and games. And as soon as the sun appeared, the whole village shouted: “Glory to Yarila! Hello, red sun!

It was also customary to invite spring earlier. In different villages one could hear every now and then: “Spring come to us! With joy, with mercy! With grainy rye, with curly oats, with mustachioed barley...” Many believed that if this was not done, the harvest would be meager and poor.

They also found time to go to the cemetery to visit deceased relatives. Just like today, the people carried a lot of dishes and boiled chicken eggs. However, our ancestors did not just place them under the grave. To begin with, they beat it on the grave, after which they cleaned it and buried the shell in the ground, and the egg itself was given to the poor.

It is worth noting that previously Radonitsa was celebrated for more than one day, so the whole village walked, inviting other villages to visit. Be sure to treat everyone with traditional dishes for this day - scrambled eggs, pancakes, loaves, various pies, in general, everything that was in the shape of a circle. The obligatory entertainment that day was rolling an egg down the mountain. The one whose egg rolls the longest without breaking will be the happiest in the entire village.

Krasnaya Gorka was still a holiday of love, and all because this is the holiday when many young people gathered, not only from one village, sometimes even from several villages. The young people looked closely at each other, got to know each other, and some, in a playful and humorous manner, confessed their love or sympathy. Therefore, Radonitsa has always been a holiday of the birth of love and strong family. The girls prepared especially for this holiday - they dressed up in new beautiful clothes, weaved braids and wove flowers or even wreaths with ribbons into them. But staying at home on Radonitsa was considered bad omen In addition, in this case, young people did not miss the opportunity to mock such a person and come up with various funny nicknames. Many believed that whoever stayed at home on this day would definitely be unhappy in the coming year.

Married and adult women tried to prepare as much food as possible on this day in order to set aside some for temples and give the other part to the poor. Many believed that this could bring good luck in the coming year.

Krasnaya Gorka has always been considered the most successful day for a wedding, and not at all because of signs or superstitions, but because weddings depended on the sowing season. Therefore, they were noted or in early spring or late autumn before harvest. Perhaps because of this you can often hear that Radonitsa is Maiden's Day.

And for those who wooed on this holiday, there was a separate custom. To do this, all the youth in the village gathered and went in a crowd to the house, where they celebrated the matchmaking. Under the house they sang songs, and sometimes even showed performances, for which they were treated delicious dishes from the table. And the girl and the guy who were matched together were called “the bindweed” and “the bindweed.”

Since rain on Radonitsa was a good omen, they tried to cause it. To do this, children on the street called out to him: “Water, rain, on woman’s rye, on grandfather’s wheat, on girl’s flax, water with a bucket.” Or: “Rain, rain, let it fall harder, quickly, warm us guys up!”

If it did start to rain, then all the people went out into the street and washed themselves with this water for good luck, and the girl always took silver rings with her and washed herself with them too.

SIGNS FOR RADONITSA 2017.

It was considered a bad omen if you did not come to your family’s grave on that day. They believed that no one would remember or remember this person after death.

Under no circumstances should any work in the garden be started earlier. It was believed that this could lead to drought, crop failure and the death of one of the loved ones.

It was also a bad omen that it rained before lunch, after which the wind blew in the evening. In this case, it was believed that the ancestors were not happy that they were forgotten and did not come to the graves. But if you just go to Radonitsa it's raining, but there is no wind, then this means happiness in the house and a rich harvest.

The housewife who is the first to prepare the festive meal will be the first to reap the harvest, and her harvest will be richer than that of the others.

Our ancestors also believed that the family that came first to the cemetery would be the happiest of the year, and even possibly receive special wisdom that would help in solving many problems.

DIVINATION FOR RADONITSA 2017.

Fortune telling for Radonitsa 2017. On Radonitsa, unmarried girls got together and told fortunes. It should be noted that there were no clearly established rituals on Radonitsa; as a rule, girls used those fortune-telling that were used on all Christmastides. For example, girls tried to find out their fate with the help of a book.

In the spring, women wove wreaths from birch branches, and then went to the river to float it. They believed that wherever the wreath floated, the groom would come from there. If he lingered near the shore, then there would be no marriage this year, but if the wreath sank, then they assumed that there would be trouble. Many girls believed that in this case she would soon die.

One of the most common fortune telling was fortune telling on a birch branch. Single girls They went to the grove and picked one branch. Then before going to bed they put it under the pillow. Whoever comes in a dream that night will be her groom.

Video: Parents' Day 2017.

Parents' Saturdays are important dates in the Orthodox calendar, and are named so precisely because they fall on the sixth day of the week. As all believers know, some Orthodox dates shift from year to year, and therefore every year you need to turn to the current Orthodox calendar, which not only indicates important dates and holidays, but also tells their history. When Parents' Saturdays will take place in 2017, we will tell you in this material.

Parents' Saturdays: dates for 2017

In total, there are 8 days of remembrance in the year, seven of which always take place on Saturdays, and the eighth day of remembrance always falls on Tuesday and this date is tied to the date of one of the most important Orthodox holidays Easter. Memorial Day, which falls on Tuesday, is always celebrated on the 9th day after Easter.

Parents' Saturdays in 2017 will be held on the following days:

1. 02/18/2017 – Ecumenical (meat-free) Saturday. This day of remembrance always takes place 7 days before the start of Lent.
2. 11.03.2017.
3. 18.03.2017.
4. 25.03.2017.
5. 04/25/2017 – Radonitsa, the ninth day since the celebration of Easter.
6. 05/09/2017 is the day of remembrance of fallen soldiers.
7. 06/03/2017 – Trinity Saturday.
8. 28.10.2-17 – Dmitrievskaya Saturday.

Despite the fact that there are a total of 8 parental Saturdays, the most important are Meat Saturday (the eve of the week of the Last Judgment) and Trinity Saturday before the great feast of the Holy Trinity. Radonitsa and Dmitrievskaya Saturday are also considered important.

Parents' Saturdays: what to do

Parents' Saturdays are days of remembrance for those who have passed on to another world. As a rule, churches hold memorial services for the dead, where you can light a candle for the repose of your loved ones. These days you need to visit the graves of your loved ones, remember them, and pray.

Many people mistakenly visit the cemetery on the bright holiday of Easter, not having reliable information about when this can be done and when it cannot be done. Moreover, visiting a cemetery on Easter day contradicts the church charter, which states that the dead cannot be commemorated before the ninth day of Easter. Even if a person passes into another world on Easter, he is buried according to a special Easter rite.

In order to avoid such mistakes, it is best to remember the dead on parental Saturdays, of which there are 8. On these days, special services are held in churches in the morning and evening. And if it is not possible to visit the temple, then you can pray for the dead at home, choosing a quiet place where no one will disturb you. On Parents' Saturdays it is very important to remember and pray for those who are no longer with us - this is the most important thing and purpose of such days of remembrance. It is believed that the souls of the deceased find peace when they are prayed for on earth, when they are remembered. It’s not for nothing that they say that love for those who are no longer with us lives in the hearts of living people. It is believed that the soul of the deceased is alive as long as it is remembered and prayed for.

In addition to prayers and visiting church, on Parents' Saturdays you need to go to the cemetery, light a candle on the grave and pray. You can invite a priest to the cemetery to perform a litiya.
On Parents' Saturdays, you need to clean up the grave: weed the ground, throw out old flowers, bring new ones, change the lamps and ribbons on the gravestone. Contrary to the widespread tradition of bringing food and alcoholic drinks to the cemetery to remember the deceased, this cannot be done, since such an action is pagan in nature, and therefore inappropriate in Orthodoxy.

It is important to remember that Parents' Saturdays are not days of mourning and sorrow, they are days of remembrance. There is an important nuance here - you need to remember the deceased with bright thoughts, and not with sadness, otherwise the soul will not be able to find peace. No matter how difficult it may be to survive the loss, you need to remember your deceased loved ones with a smile and a light heart, then they will also have a good time in the next world.

Honoring the memory of the dead is a constant process that occurs in the soul of every person. But there are special days of the year when all people who have lost loved ones unite in a single prayer for the dead. Such events are called “parental Orthodox Saturday” and depend on religious holidays, as well as the fasts accompanying them. Remembering the dead gives them eternal life in the hearts of living people, who in turn, through funeral prayer hope for the resurrection of the soul.

Dear site visitors, you will find memorial days for 2018 in new article: Parents' Saturdays 2018

Dear site visitors, you will find memorial days for 2019 in the new article: Parents' Saturdays 2019

Parents' Saturday 2017 does not always fall on the corresponding day of the week in the calendar. Quite often, memorial days can be on any other day. The importance of such events lies not only in honoring loved ones. These days, the memory of those who gave their lives in complete solitude is revered and there is no one to pray for the soul of such a person in the world of the living. Such universal commemorations repay the energy debt to all the deceased, regardless of family ties. Although the name at first glance looks like a veneration of the closest and dearest people - parents, this is not entirely true. The formulation of such a sample is endowed with the meaning of remembering everyone who is related to the race, and not to a specific family, but to the human race.

Orthodox calendar 2017 (parental Saturdays)

Based on the greatest religious holidays, general memorial days do not have a clearly established date, but nevertheless occur in almost every month of the first half of the year. The main commemoration may have a two-week delay. Parental Saturdays in 2017 (Orthodox calendar) are distributed as follows:

Of course, every person has the right to honor the memory of his loved ones in any way convenient for him. But, as practice shows, we are increasingly making mistakes that do more harm than good, even in such a matter as remembering a deceased soul.

If you adapt your behavior to a day like Parents' Saturday ( orthodox calendar) requires the fulfillment of all canons corresponding to a certain religious holiday. Although the rules have several common points, the implementation of which will enrich such a day and make it more productive:

  • It is worth visiting the temple, praying under the church dome, lighting a funeral candle and leaving funeral products for all those in need.
  • If the cemetery is close, you can visit the graves of the dead and bring them a “gift” in the form of bread, cookies or sweets. When favorable weather conditions It is not forbidden to clean up the burial site: pull out weeds, remove dry grass, etc.
  • You shouldn’t turn your funeral dinner into a drunken spree. After all, drinking alcohol by Orthodox standards is a sin, and honoring the memory and sinning at the same time is at least illogical.
  • Also, in the cemetery you should not speak in a raised voice or use foul language.

It would be good to remember that Parents' Saturday in 2017, as always, is not necessarily a day of grief and crying, but a time of rethinking one's actions and life in general.
