Why 666 is considered the devil's number. Interpretations of the number "666"

This verse says that the number of the beast is six hundred and sixty-six (666); and it must be confessed that more ingenuity has been expended on this verse than on any other verse of Scripture.

18 Here is wisdom. He who has intelligence, count the number of the beast, for it is a human number; its number is six hundred and sixty-six.
(Rev. 13:18)

Modern translation: This requires wisdom. Anyone who has reason can understand the meaning of the number of the beast, for it corresponds to the human number. The number is six hundred sixty six (666).

Who is this satanic beast represented here by such a symbolic number (666)?

We must remember that in antiquity there were no numbers, and the function of numbers was also performed by the letters of the alphabet. So, in Cyrillic (Russian alphabet) A meant 1; B-2; AT 3; G-4, etc. Thus, every word, and therefore every name, can also be a number.

One sweet and romantic example of this use is given by Gustav Deisman. On the walls of Pompeii, one lover wrote: “I love the one whose number is 545,” and thereby named the name of his beloved and at the same time hid it!

666 - PRINT

Countless speculations have been made regarding the number 666.

Due to the fact that this is the name of the beast, it was distorted in any way possible to fit their sworn enemy; and therefore 666 also meant the Pope, Napoleon, the leader of German Protestantism Martin Luther, the founder of the Scottish Presbyterian Church John Knox and many others.

So, during the Second World War they managed to create a system according to which it turned out that 666 was Hitler!

Sworn Enemy of the Church

Revelation is written in coded language; therefore, it is quite obvious that here, where the name of the sworn enemy of the Church was concerned, the most reliable code was chosen.

Oddly enough, the key to the code was apparently lost very early on, because even such a great theologian as Irenaeus of Lyons, who lived in the second century, did not know what stood behind this symbolic number.

Four of the earliest guesses

We present here four of the earliest assumptions.

  1. Irenaeus of Lyon suggested that it could symbolize Euanfas.
    In Greek: E - 5; U - 400; A - 1; N - 50; F - 9; A - 1; C - 200; and the amount is 666. But what Euanfas is - Irenaeus knew nothing about this; that is, he replaced one riddle with another.
  2. It has been suggested that the word is Lateinos.
    L - 30; A - 1; T - 300; E - 5; I - 10; N - 50; O - 70; C - 200; the sum is 666. Lateinos could be understood as Latin and could therefore symbolize the Roman Empire.
  3. The third guess was that the word was Teitan.
    T - 300; E - 5; I - 10; T - 300; A - 1; H -50; and the sum is 666. Two meanings could be obtained from teitanos. In ancient Greek mythology, the Titans rebelled against God. Secondly, the emperors Vespasian, Titus and Domitian were from the Titus family, and perhaps they could be called titans.
  4. A fourth person suggested that the word is arnoume.
    A - 1; R - 100; N - 50; O - 70; U -400; M - 40; E - 5; and the sum is 666. There is a possibility that arnoume is a form of the Greek word arnoumai, “I deny.” In this case, the number symbolizes the denial of the name of Christ.

None of these assumptions seem convincing. The chapter itself offers us the best clue to the mystery.

Again and again there is mention of a mortally wounded head, which was then healed. As we have already seen, this head symbolizes the legend of Emperor Nero Nero redivivus, and therefore we can well assume that the number has something to do with Nero.

In many ancient lists, the number is given as 616. If we write the name Nero in Latin letters and give them numerical values, we get: N - 50; E -6; R - 500; O - 60; N - 50, and the sum - 666; if you write the name Nero without the last N, the sum will be 616. And if the words Caesar Nero are transcribed with Hebrew consonants, their sum will also be equal to 666.

Thus, it can be assumed that the number of the beast symbolizes the emperor Nero, and that John predicts the coming of the Antichrist in the form of Nero, the embodiment of evil, who has returned to this earth.

666 - seal on Jews professing Judaism

There is a place in the Bible where the number 666 is mentioned:

(1 Kings 10:14)

Read the entire 10th chapter of 1 Kings

1 The Queen of Sheba, having heard about the glory of Solomon in the name of the Lord, came to test him with riddles.
2 And she came to Jerusalem with very great wealth: the camels were loaded with spices and a great abundance of gold and precious stones; and she came to Solomon and talked with him about everything that was in her heart.
3 And Solomon explained to her all her words, and there was nothing unknown to the king that he did not explain to her.
4 And the queen of Sheba saw all the wisdom of Solomon and the house that he had built,
5 And the food at his table, and the habitation of his servants, and the order of his servants, and their clothing, and his butlers, and his burnt offerings, which he offered in the temple of the Lord. And she couldn't resist anymore
6 And she said to the king, “It is true that I have heard in my land about your works and about your wisdom;
7 But I did not believe the words until I came and my eyes saw: and behold, not even half was told to me; You have more wisdom and wealth than I heard.
8 Blessed are your people and blessed are these your servants, who always stand before you and hear your wisdom!
9 Blessed be the Lord your God, who has been pleased to place you on the throne of Israel! Lord, by eternal love His own to Israel, he made you king, to do justice and righteousness.
10 And she gave the king an hundred and twenty talents of gold, and a great quantity of spices, and precious stones; never before had such a multitude of incense come as the Queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon.
11 And the ship of Hiram, which brought gold from Ophir, brought from Ophir great abundance of mahogany and precious stones.
12 And the king made of this red wood railings for the temple of the Lord and for the king's house, and harp and psaltery for the singers; So much mahogany has never come and has not been seen to this day.
13 And King Solomon gave to the Queen of Sheba everything that she desired and asked for, beyond what King Solomon had given her with his own hands. And she went back to her land, she and all her servants.
14 The gold that came to Solomon every year weighed six hundred and sixty-six talents of gold,
15 in addition to what [was received] from the peddlers of goods and from the trade of merchants, and from all the kings of Arabia and from the governors of the provinces.
16 And King Solomon made two hundred great shields of beaten gold, six hundred [shekels] went to each shield;
17 And three hundred smaller shields of beaten gold, three minas of gold went to each shield; and the king set them in a house of Lebanon wood.
18 And the king made a great throne of ivory and overlaid it with pure gold;
19 There were six steps to the throne; the top behind the throne was round, and there were armrests on both sides of the seat, and two lions stood at the armrests;
20 and twelve other lions stood there on six steps on either side. This has never happened in any kingdom.
21 And all the drinking vessels of king Solomon [were] of gold, and all the vessels of the house of Lebanon were of pure gold; there was nothing made of silver, because silver in the days of Solomon was considered worthless;
22 For the king had the ship of Tarshish at sea with the ship of Hiram; Every three years the ship of Tarshish came, bringing gold and silver, and ivory, and monkeys, and peacocks.
23 King Solomon surpassed all the kings of the earth in wealth and wisdom.
24 And all [the kings] on earth sought to see Solomon, that they might hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart.
25 And they brought him, each on his own, a gift: vessels of silver and vessels of gold, and clothing, and weapons, and incense, horses and mules, every year.
26 And Solomon gathered chariots and horsemen; he had fourteen hundred chariots and twelve thousand horsemen; and he placed them in the chariot cities and with the king in Jerusalem.
27 And the king made the silver in Jerusalem equal in value to common stones, and the cedars, because of their abundance, made them equal in value to the sycamore trees [that grow] on low places.
28 And horses were brought to King Solomon from Egypt and from Kuba; royal merchants bought them from Kuva for money.
29 The chariot from Egypt was received and delivered for six hundred [shekels] of silver, and the horse for one hundred and fifty. In the same way they delivered [all this] with their own hands to the kings of the Hittites and the kings of Aramean.
(1 Kings 10:1-29)

Historical background, Solomon's gold.

The annual receipts and reserves of gold during the reign of Solomon were very huge, judging, as we read, that he had shields made of forged gold, gold drinking vessels, small shields (screens) of gold and an ivory throne, overlaid with pure gold and silver Silver and gold in Jerusalem in his time were equivalent to simple stones (10:10-22; 2 Chron. 1:15).

Five years after Solomon's death, the Egyptian king Shusakim came to Jerusalem and took all of Solomon's gold (14:25,26; 2 Chron. 12:2, 9-11).

It was only recently in 1939 that the mummy of Susakim was discovered in Tanis, Egypt. She lay in a gold-covered sarcophagus.

It is possible that this was the gold that he took from Jerusalem.

Thus, we know that King Solomon received 666 talents of gold annually. From whom? This gold came as an annual tax from the Jews (Jews professing Judaism). Each Jew was required to hand over one coin of gold.

From here we learn that the seal of the devil is on Jews or Jews professing Judaism. Moreover, we know that Moses brought this people out of the sea (this beast will come out of the sea).

You can see an example of the zealous attitude of one of the Jews who persecuted the disciples of Jesus:

9 It is true that I thought that I should do much against the name of Jesus of Nazareth.
10 This is what I did in Jerusalem: having received authority from the high priests, I imprisoned many saints, and when they killed them, I gave my voice to it;
11 And throughout all the synagogues I tormented them many times and forced them to blaspheme [Jesus], and, being too furious against them, I persecuted them even in foreign cities.
12 For this reason, going to Damascus with authority and commission from the chief priests,
(Acts 26:9-12)

It is important that the Jews today do not recognize the name of Jesus of Nazareth. They are waiting for the re-building of Solomon's Temple. They are waiting for the king.

34 Salt is a good thing; but if the salt loses its strength, how can it be corrected?
35 It is not suitable for soil or manure; they throw it away. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!
(Luke 14:34,35)

CONCLUSIONS

The result of my study of the book of Revelation is the following conclusions.

  1. I am inclined to believe that the book of Revelation was written before the destruction of Jerusalem. That is, the warnings in this book were addressed to the first Christians. They, in turn, seeing what was destined for Jerusalem, left the city before the siege by the Romans and escaped.
  2. The Book of Revelations covers more than just the times of the early Christians. Naturally, everything that is written in it is useful for study and instruction, both today and for future generations.
  3. It is worth taking into account the prophetic version of the presentation that was used in the books of the Old Testament. John used it when writing while imprisoned. Having thereby secured the importance of the words in it, he was able to calmly address them to the Christians in Jerusalem. Indeed, for an ordinary Roman of that time, everything that was stated in it, to put it mildly, did not fit into the framework of ordinary reasoning. John could not directly write, for example, about Nero, about the destruction of Jerusalem and about the persecution of Christians. Such a message would not pass censorship.
  4. The image of King Solomon, the Temple and the wealth of his reign is very similar to the description of John Kingdom of Heaven and the Tsar. It is worth comparing the image of King Solomon, his greatness, wealth and wisdom before his fall into sin with the described images of the Book of Revelation.
  5. The number of the beast is 666, it should not be interpreted unambiguously.

When studying the Book of Revelation, please note that it is very difficult to study, especially in absolute interpretations.

When meeting a car with number 666 on the street, or driving 666 kilometers, people often feel a shiver running through their bodies and have terrifying thoughts in their heads. Three sixes are associated with dark forces, eternal fire and the devil. But why is 666 the number of the devil? Why not 777 or 888? The answer can be found in the ancient book in the world - the Bible.

First mention of three sixes

The number 666 was first mentioned in Old Testament. The first time it meant the weight of gold that King Solomon received every year, the second time the number of sons of Adonikam.

A total of three sixes were mentioned three times in scripture. However, this figure did not have any semantic meaning at that time, but simply meant quantity. There was no connection between 666 and the dark forces. And, probably, it would have remained unnoticed if it had not been mentioned once again by John the Theologian in the last of the books of Genesis - the Apocalypse.

It says that 666 is the number of the beast. But the text of the Bible was rewritten several times, and it is possible that an erroneous version has reached our time.

In one of the ancient papyrus texts of the Apocalypse, dating back to 200 years, the number 616 was written instead of 666. Some versions of the ancient text also contain other options: 665 or 664. In addition, the number 666 was not written in numbers, but in three words that could imply decimal number 0,66666 , meaning infinity.

Transcript 666

What exactly the biblical prophet wanted to tell people has been tried at all times:

  • One of the first theories is that the numbers encrypt the name of the one who will bring destruction to this world. The letters of the Latin alphabet have corresponding numerical values, and it was assumed that the number 666 is the sum of the indices of the letters included in the name. For example, the sum of the indices of the letters of the word Lateinos, meaning the Roman Empire, was 666;
  • Many interpreters associate three sixes with the name of Emperor Nero; the numerical values of the letters in this name are also equal to 666. The times of Nero’s reign were associated with persecution of Christians. It was he who became the murderer of the great Christian apostles Peter and Paul. And when John the Theologian wrote his prophecy, he could encrypt the name of Nero so that the Romans would not completely destroy the scripture;
  • Some researchers associate three sixes with the name of Emperor Domitian, who ruled during the time of John the Theologian;
  • Gematria 666 has and Greek word beast, written in Hebrew letters.

Why is 666 the number of the beast?

In the Apocalypse, the end of the world is marked by various global events, the final of which is the second coming of Christ. Before the Savior, two animals must come into the world: one coming out of the sea, and the other from the earth. He is described as a creature with two horns and the voice of a dragon.

This beast will perform signs and wonders, deceiving people and convincing them that he is the savior of the world. At the same time, everyone who bowed to him will be marked with their number on right hand. The rest, who do not have this mark, will be persecuted. The false prophet will promise peace and love to those who worship, but this will turn out to be untrue; instead of eternal prosperity, darkness will fall on the earth, there will be famine and war. Only those who were not inscribed with the number of the beast, called 666 by John the Theologian, will be saved.

This is how the concept appeared number of the beast. Precisely, this biblical prophecy is associated with people’s fear of acquiring things with a numerical designation in the form of three sixes, and in general being afraid of these symbols.

Why is the number 666 considered the number of the devil?

The beast, whose name is Lucifer and who recognizes his subjects by the mark 666 on his right hand, is none other than the Antichrist. That is why it is often used by Satanists and Freemasons in their rituals and symbolism.

If we establish a logical connection, it turns out that the Antichrist will mark his servants with three sixes and with the help of this number he will influence them.

There is even an assumption that chips with numeric code 666, with the help of which the devil will be able to control humanity. And on everyone’s forehead there will be a mark 666, which will mean belonging to the satanic tribe.

Many secrets and mysteries around the number 666 have forced people at all times to treat it with caution:

  1. There is even a disease called hexakosiohexekontahexaphobia, the symptoms of which are panic fear before this number;
  2. If you add up all the roulette numbers, their sum will be 666, no wonder gambling are considered the invention of the devil, and roulette is considered a Ferris wheel;
  3. In non-Christian countries, the number 666 is considered lucky and brings good luck;
  4. In the European Parliament, no one occupies seat number 666;
  5. The standard barcode has protection in the form of three sixes;
  6. Visa and TIN plastic cards use a code of three sixes.

But, despite all the fears and concerns, many positive events are associated with this number, for example, it was 06/06/1906 that was canceled the death penalty, and 06/06/2006 was an ordinary day for humanity.

Whether to be afraid of the number 666 is something everyone decides for themselves. To perceive it as superstition or as reality is everyone’s choice. But man is given reason and the ability to analyze in order to understand all the mysteries and disagreements himself, and not accept everything blindly on faith.

Before you jump off the bus with the number 666 in horror or change your mobile number with three sixes at the end, you need to figure out why 666 is the number of the devil, whether it really brings misfortune, and whether just three numbers can radically change your destiny.

Video about the Devil's number

In this video, Danila Stepin will tell you why many people fear the number 666, what it means and where it came from, 10 facts:

15.04.2015

The main opponent of God, the representative of misfortune, evil and dark forces- these are the epithets the man of the devil awarded. What was associated with this mythical creature, from ancient times they tried to avoid it. Many beliefs, legends and superstitious opinions were invented in ancient times, and people experienced panic fear of the powerful power of the devil, fearing to incur quick death or incurable illness.

Currently, a person is educated enough not to take seriously everything that filled the heads of his ancestors. However, various talismans and amulets do not leave modern homes and protect the home from evil spirits and the evil eye of ill-wishers. It is believed that protection from evil spirits Everyone always needs it so that luck and success in business do not turn away from the owner.

People still try to avoid the number 666, which is associated with the devil: on a car’s license plate, on a plastic card, or in a telephone number. The Orthodox people plunged into panic due to the introduction of pension and tax numbers, seeing in this the evil intent of Satan. The extent to which such measures were justified by the state had to be explained to Patriarch Alexy, and the essence of this number had to be revealed.

The essence of the problem is that, as usual, a person begins to study the issue from the opposite direction and pays the greatest attention to that aspect that does not deserve attention. IN Holy Scripture they try to take the insignificant and sensational out of context, bringing it to the fore, but they prefer to remain silent about the main thing. Great prophecies that take on real features are not studied so carefully, but interpretations of the devil's number distort the truth and act in the hands of Satan.

If we briefly describe the events taking place on earth several centuries ago, then the division of Christianity into two groups ( Roman Catholic Church and Orthodox) led to attempts to calculate the title Popes as 666. Many Bible scholars avoid speaking unequivocally about this event, but the fact that the reformers called the Pope the Antichrist is confirmed by historical facts.

Another hypothesis for the origin of the number 666 is based on events that occurred during the era of the Roman Empire, when the minted coins were written: Nero Kaisar. If you mathematically add up the digital values of the letters, you get 666, although the assumption is quite controversial. In Greek writing, the sum of the digital values is 616, since the correct name would be Nero Caesar, which is ultimately 50 less.

A person’s fear of various numbers is associated with their influence on fate. Numerology is a science through which it is possible to predict the future with high probability and describe the character of a person himself, based only on his date of birth. It is not for nothing that the number 666 is of such interest; it is mentioned in the Bible. Many politicians are attached to the devilish number and prefer to postpone important meetings and negotiations if their date is in any way combined with the number 666.

What is the origin story of the devilish number 666?

Number of the beast- a special number mentioned in the Bible, under which the name of the apocalyptic beast is supposedly hidden; numerological embodiment of Satan. The number of the beast is 666. The number 666 is a very often used element of satanic paraphernalia, along with an inverted cross(which itself is an anti-Christian symbol, not a satanic one) and pentagram. Here is wisdom. He who has intelligence, count the number of the beast, for it is a human number; its number is six hundred and sixty-six.

It is believed that the Antichrist is depicted in the Bible under the guise of an apocalyptic beast, and the Revelation of St. John says: “He who has understanding, let him count the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man.” Therefore, in the name or appearance of any person in whom they saw the Antichrist, they tried to find the number 666. These searches actively continue to this day.

Friedrich Engels provided evidence that the number 666 in the Bible encrypts the name of the Roman Emperor Nero (“Nero Caesar”), known for his persecution of Christians.

Some archaeologists argue that a mistake may have been made in the first centuries when rewriting the Revelation of St. John. Then the real number of the beast is 616, not 666. But this fact cannot be accurately established.

It is also often noted that Arabic numerals in the time of John the Theologian there was no, and the number of the beast may have hinted at “two-thirds” of something. The combination of sixes often means exactly two-thirds of the first number of the next order.

Radical Protestant movements (mainly Seventh-day Adventists) in propaganda literature find the number 666 in the phrase "Vicarius Filii Dei", which they call "the official title of the office of the Pope", and some even claim that this phrase is supposedly written on the papal tiara. If we imagine the letters of this phrase as Roman numerals (those that are possible and equating the letter U to the letter V), you will get the following picture: V-5 I-1 C-100 U-5 L-50 D-500 V+I+C +I+U+I+L+I+I+D+I=5+1+100+1+5+1+50+1+1+500+1= 666

Another sum of 666 was found in the words:
"Martin Luther"
"Lateinos" (means "all things Latin" in Greek; suggested by Irenaeus)
In the name of US President Ronald Wilson Reagan, each part contains 6 letters.
The sum of the ASCII character codes in the combination “HOLYBIBLE” (English Bible) is also 666.
“Yeltsin” (with an added hard sign at the end, i.e. in pre-revolutionary spelling; interestingly, Boris Yeltsin ended his second presidential term with an early departure from his post, and therefore it lasted exactly as long as indicated for the Beast in the Apocalypse - 42 months , i.e. 3.5 years instead of the 4 years required by the Constitution of the Russian Federation).

Other matches found:
666 is the sum of all numbers on the roulette wheel.
The sum of the ASCII character codes in the combination “MS-DOS 6.21” is also 666.
At Windows installation Vista from Windows XP and there is no free space on the system disk, the message “to install Vista requires at least 666 megabytes of free disk space” appears.
666 megabytes - size of the Tron 2.0 game installation file

Other references in the Bible
666 is the number of gold talents that King Solomon collected in one year (1 Kings 10:14 2 Chron. 9:13).

Numbers are more than just a counting tool for many of us. Almost every person has both favorite and least favorite numbers. There are also numbers that are treated at least with caution all over the world, for example, the number 13, which is considered unlucky in many countries. It is known that in many office buildings the twelfth floor is immediately followed by the fourteenth; on some airlines there is no thirteenth row; and we look forward to the thirteenth of every month with hidden fear, especially if it falls on a Friday. But there is one number in comparison with which our superstitions about the number thirteen seem like child's play.

666 — The number of the Devil or the mistake of interpreters of the Apocalypse.

But that is not all. Scientists conducted their own calculations and, like Engels, came to the conclusion that the Devil’s number is not at all 666 , but still the same 616.

It’s just not clear what the Moscow authorities should do now. In 1999, they met the parishioners of the capital’s Orthodox Church of the Life-Giving Trinity, who asked to rename route no. 666 from the metro station "Novye Cheryomushki" to the metro station "Prospekt Vernadskogo". Officials from the Moscow Department of Transport have assigned a new number to the “sinister bus route”... 616....

It is impossible to resist mentioning another very interesting fact, this time in favor of supporters of those who still believe that it is number 666- This is a sign of the Antichrist. The sum of all the numbers on the roulette wheel is exactly 666 -ti. Truly devilish entertainment... :)
