Princess Anne celebrates her silver wedding. Two marriages of Princess Royal Anne of Great Britain: when a hobby is more important than a title and gossip
Another high-profile royal wedding is coming: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are coming very soon. In the meantime, we are looking at photos from previous weddings of British monarchs.

Elizabeth II's parents got married in Westminster Abbey in April 1923 (by the way, they were familiar with early childhood). After his brother's abdication Edward VIII from the throne Prince Albert became King George VI. The couple had two daughters - Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret.

2. Prince Edward and Wallis Simpson
The same story that simply could not help but form the basis Hollywood movie. Prince Albert's older brother fell in love with a twice-divorced American woman and refused to consummate the relationship after becoming king. He abdicated the throne to marry his chosen one. Today, December 12, marks the 25th anniversary of the wedding of Princess Anne and Vice Admiral Timothy Lawrence.
Now most of the media are focused on discussing Prince Harry's engagement and predictions about the future wedding. But today the focus is only on Her Highness Anna and her husband. Journalists recall the couple’s romantic love story, which, by the way, could have ended in tears for Lawrence. But, as is often the case in classic love stories, the difficulties only strengthened the relationship between the princess and her partner.
Princess Anne went down in the history of the royal houses of Europe as the second member of the Windsor family to decide to divorce and subsequently marry in the twentieth century (the first was one of Queen Victoria's granddaughters, whose marriage was dissolved in 1905).
On November 14, 1973 (on her brother Prince Charles's 25th birthday), Anne married Lieutenant Mark Phillips. The couple had a son (Peter) and a daughter (Zara). It is difficult to accuse Princess Anne of Great Britain of marrying for convenience. Both marriages of the princess did not fit into the royal family's idea of a profitable match. However, no one dared to openly protest: Anna always acted as she saw fit.
Anna Elizabeth Alice Louise
Anna Elizaveta Alice Louise was born on August 15, 1950. And after a year and a half, she became the daughter of the Queen of Great Britain, when Elizabeth replaced her father on the throne.
Little Anna was jealous of her older brother Charles, believing that her parents paid him more attention. Even the princess's governess advised members of the royal family to exercise the art of diplomacy in their relations with their daughter.
Already while studying at a closed school in Buckingham Palace the princess demonstrated enviable stubbornness in achieving her goals and was sharp-tongued.
In parallel with receiving secondary education, Princess Anne studied music, French and took dance lessons. At the age of nine, the girl was already driving a compact Austin car along the alleys of the royal residence. She was taught driving by her father, whose lessons she recalled when receiving her driver's license.
After graduating from school, the princess almost immediately began to fulfill her social duties as a princess: she participated in receptions and receptions, answering most of the invitations, of which she received up to 500 a year. And the British Queen's subjects say that Anne is the most productive representative of the monarchy in Great Britain.
The princess's real passion was horse riding. Among her achievements are the title of 1971 European champion in equestrian eventing and participation in Olympic Games 1976 in Montreal.
It was this hobby that played its fateful role. At equestrian competitions, the girl met her first husband, Mark Phillips.
Princess Anne's first marriage
The Duke of Bosphorus annually organized Badminton competitions on his estate. They also took place in 1971. Princess Anne managed to take only fifth place, but Mark Phillips became the undisputed winner.
Soon after the end of the competition, rumors began to arise that the princess was dating Mark. However, the royal family refused to comment this information, denying the very fact of the existence of an affair between Anna and Phillips. However, on May 30, 1973, an official announcement was made about Princess Anne's engagement to Mark Phillips, and on November 14, their wedding took place.
Family members were not too happy about the princess's marriage, considering her choice reckless. Anna's older brother, Prince Charles, once remarked that Anna loved horses too much, but could not marry a horse, which is why she chose Mark as her husband. He considered such a marriage simply an absurd misalliance. Queen Elizabeth II did not approve of her daughter's choice, but agreed that the two were ideal for each other. Anna herself was clearly happy when she married Mark.
In the wedding photographs she looks simply charming: happy, radiant, young princess. She clearly married for love, and she had little interest in talking about unequal marriage and wrong choice.

Mark Phillips, when journalists asked him if he was afraid of being rejected by the princess, replied that in love the origin of the girl does not matter. And in general, such experiences are a private matter for lovers, but not for the general public. At the same time, he categorically refused the title, which he could have received by marrying with a special royal blood.
By the time of his marriage, Mark Phillips had graduated from Marlborough College and the Royal Military Academy Sunhurst, and held the rank of lieutenant in the Royal Dragoons. As a member of the British eventing team, he won the Olympic title in Munich in 1972. And in 1974, Mark received the status of personal adjutant to the Queen with the rank of captain.
Anna's family was never surrounded by scandals; she and her husband led a fairly private lifestyle, not making their relationship public. In 1977, Anna and Mark had a son, Peter Mark Andrew Phillips, and in 1981, a daughter, Zara Anna Elizabeth Phillips.
But in 1989 the couple separated without formalizing their breakup. On April 28, 1992, Princess Anne and Captain Mark Phillips officially ended their marriage of eighteen and a half years. In the summer of 1992, Anna was already engaged to Captain Timothy Lawrence, a former royal equerry.
Princess Anne's second marriage
On December 12, 1992, Anna remarried, this time to Timothy Lawrence. This marks the first time since Henry VIII that a previously divorced member of the English royal family has married.
Before taking up the position of Master of the Horse in 1986, Timothy Laurence completed a BA (Honours) degree in Geography with a degree in Naval Science from Durham University College. Lawrence served in the Royal Navy from 1973.
The princess's wedding was preceded by a scandal involving the theft of Timothy's letters in 1989, after which he was forced to leave the palace. But the romance between Lawrence and Princess Royal Anne continued. The first time they decided to go out together openly was only in 1991, appearing at the traditional Highland Ball.
On the eve of the princess's wedding official representative Buckingham said that Anne and Timothy loved each other very much and before the wedding they simply had some decent time after the princess's divorce.
Anna's second wedding was much more modest than the first and was a purely family event, which took place in Crathie Church near Balmoral Castle. This Scottish church allows divorced people to marry.
In 2001, rumors appeared about the actual separation of the princess from her second husband. Anna herself, according to tradition, did not give any comments.
But the Princess Royal still often appears at official ceremonies with her husband, Timothy Lawrence. Apparently, this time the couple managed to overcome the crisis in their relationship and save the marriage.
Needless to say, Princess Anna was not as lucky in love as her mother.
