Questions for a wedding photographer. How can we get the photos? If a photographer doesn’t have a portfolio, what will the client think about him?

I tried to collect on one page all the questions that clients ask me when calling or on social networks. Of course, the most frequently asked question"How much it costs..?". You can find the answer to it in the “Services and prices” section, and here - to all other frequently asked questions. If you haven’t found the answer to your question here, ask it in the comments at the bottom of the page, or ask me directly - it will be faster.

Before the photo shoot:

Question: This is our first time at a photo shoot. Can you tell me how to pose, where to look?

Answer: Yes, of course, I always help with posing and suggest how best to stand and where to look. I also always have a casual conversation during the shoot so that you don’t feel constrained - because this will be reflected in the photographs.

Question: How long in advance do I need to sign up for a shoot?

Answer: The earlier you sign up, the more likely it is that the time you need will be available. Sometimes people sign up even for today, but the optimal period is two weeks in advance.

Question: How do you know how many hours of a photo shoot you need to book?

Answer: If we talk about studio, family or love story photo sessions, a standard photo session lasting one hour is usually sufficient. You need to take more if there are five or more of you. As for other types of shooting, everything is individual, I can always advise you by phone.

Question: Is prepayment required?

Answer: When registering for a shoot, a mandatory prepayment is 500₽. Prepayment can be transferred to Sberbank, Alfa-Bank, Tinkoff cards or Yandex-money. Details are on the contacts page.

Answer: Yes, I shoot in any photo studios in St. Petersburg. In this case, you book and pay for the studio yourself and separately for my services.

Question: How many photos are there in the output?

Answer: Minimum – from 70 photos per full hour shooting. On average - 100-110 photos. You must, of course, take into account that the quantity will be less if you are a little late. Photo printing services are provided only in conjunction with photography services!

Answer: Possibly, unless you say otherwise in advance. All photographs, except photos with children, as well as nude photographs, can be published in my portfolio on the website or on social networks. If you do not want this, please notify me in advance.

So, what questions to ask your photographer before your wedding? It is more convenient to highlight them in the form of a list that you can take into account when preparing for a conversation with a specialist:

  1. Does a wedding photographer work under an official contract? The most important thing is the contract for the provision of services. It is signed on both sides. A professional will be confident that his work will be fully paid for, and you will not worry about the final result being unsatisfactory. Never forget about documents!
  2. How will payment be made? Most often, the procedure for paying for work is carried out in 2 stages: 50/50. What does this mean? You pay half as a deposit, and the other half is given upon completion of tasks. Almost every self-respecting photographer works using this system, so other systems should be abandoned in order to avoid various misunderstandings.
  3. Is there any collaboration with an assistant? If your wedding turns into a truly magnificent celebration, then the photographer may need an assistant to capture not only the bride and groom, but also the guests present at the celebration. Such moments should be treated responsibly in order to preserve as many memories as possible, as well as please the invited people with good and bright photographs.
  4. Will someone be able to replace the photographer in the event of a force majeure situation? We are all human, and things happen to us all. various situations. Personal problems, illness - all this can dramatically disrupt the plans of a professional, so he should always have a replacement (or better yet, several) so that you definitely receive the services of a specialist at your own holiday.
  5. Is there a minimum number of hours required for photographers to be paid? As a rule, professionals talk in advance about the minimum amount of time they are willing to take. You should also ask whether you will need to pay extra to the specialist for filming at a later time. Many people try not to work too long, so as not to sacrifice the quality of their images due to their own fatigue or non-standard working conditions.
  6. Ask the photographer to show a complete series of wedding day images. As a rule, on websites or in groups social networks people post individual works, the best of all. Of course, this is also part of the portfolio, but the real indicator of skill is the provision of complete series. If a person refuses, then it is better to refuse such a performer.

What questions can you ask a photographer before your wedding?

After reviewing how to ask questions wedding photographer, you need to move on to some clarifications that will allow you to better ensure that you have made the right choice:

  1. How many photos will you end up with? If you need a fixed number of shots, all this must be discussed with the performer. Someone follows the customer's requirements, when others put forward their own terms of cooperation. If a photographer works according to his own regulations, he must justify the reasons for this particular approach. Whether you accept it or not is entirely your choice.
  2. How long does photo processing take? It is immediately necessary to prepare for the fact that in some cases this procedure can be done for several months. This is especially true if your wedding takes place in the summer or spring. You can check with a specialist for more precise terms, since everyone works with at different speeds, depending on the workload and professionalism of the performer.
  3. In what form will the final work be provided? On this moment Most photographers are moving away from classic floppy disks, choosing flash cards as a storage medium. Sometimes specialists provide an envelope with already printed works. Also, some professionals accept orders for prints of some of the photos you choose.
  4. Is it possible to create a wedding book right away? How much will such work cost? A wedding book is essentially a large album, inside of which your family photos will be placed in an original way. As a rule, most photographers prepare this book under a contract, but you will have to pay an additional amount for the work.
  5. Specify how the photographer will get to the shooting location. Will he need to provide a seat on your personal transport? This issue needs to be discussed before you book the wedding transport itself, or allocate seats in the guests’ cars. Most specialists use their own cars, but clarification is never superfluous.
  6. Can the photographer recommend certain places for a photo shoot? Of course, the main work will be done at the venue of the celebration, but if you decide to do a family photo session on neutral territory, then it is best to consult with the performer.
  7. Ask if a professional worked at the site where your photo shoot will take place. If you have experience, then this is a very big plus, which will help not only achieve the highest quality result, but also significantly save on overall work time. The photographer will be able to quickly find good angles, and will also be able to advise different positions that will help you appear in front of the lens in the best light.

Clarifications that can be clarified with the wedding photographer

  1. How will the photographer be dressed? The specialist’s clothing should be suitable for the general dress code of your event, but at the same time not restrict his movements. In search of a successful shot, the performer often has to quickly move from place to place, take the most unusual poses in order to capture your holiday in a favorable light. Inform the person in advance about general style clothes at the event so that he does not stand out from the crowd like a black crow.
  2. Will photographs be posted on the artist's website? If you do not want your photos to be published somewhere on the Internet, then you will most likely have to pay extra for such a service. Nobody wants to sacrifice their own portfolio just like that, especially if the result turned out amazing.
  3. Does the photographer have spare equipment at his disposal? This point is very important, since equipment can fail at the most inopportune moment. Professionals, as a rule, always carry spare tools with them so that no incidents occur during the order fulfillment process.
  4. Will black and white photographs be used in the final series? How many will there be? This style of photography looks quite stylish and cozy, since black and white is timeless classic. If you would like to see similar work in your wedding album, ask the photographer to do it. Additional charges may apply.
  5. Very important question– is photo printing included in the final cost of work? How much will the procedure cost if the amount for the service is not included in the pre-agreed price tag?
  6. Can the photographer give specific tips for your photo shoot? This question is, in a way, a final test of the performer’s level of skill. An experienced photographer can always advise something or talk you out of unsuccessful compositional ideas. Discuss how best to conduct the first meeting of the bride and groom so that the pictures turn out to be as lively and emotional as possible. Also discuss the most good time, if the photo shoot will take place on the street.
  7. Well, the last question - will the performer be able to shoot in the style of a love story? This is a very fashionable trend nowadays, which has a certain plot and compositional structure. Many photographers offer couples a discount if a love story is included in the overall wedding photography concept.

Let's summarize how to communicate with a photographer before the wedding

Many newlyweds experience a kind of embarrassment before a personal conversation with a photographer. Never be afraid to ask questions to a person whose professionalism will determine how vividly your memories will be preserved in photographs. At the moment, more and more photographers are appearing in Russia who are just starting to work in such a complex field of activity. Low price attracts people to work, but the results may be far from ideal. As a result, the money, effort and time spent greatly spoil the mood, which is unacceptable for a bright holiday like a wedding.

The questions you read above will help you protect yourself from the services of charlatans. It is very good if you choose a photographer who has been verified by your relatives and friends. But even in this case, you should not neglect personal conversation and let everything take its course. If a specialist has satisfied the requirements of one couple, this does not guarantee that it will be pleasant and easy for you to work with him. The meeting must take place in person. Chat with the photographer better in pairs, the bride and groom to discuss all aspects of the work in advance, and the result satisfied both the newlyweds and the specialist himself.

Typically, photographer and videographer services are paid hourly. Depending on the format and duration of the event, the working hours of specialists vary. Discuss in advance the number of hours that will be required for full photo and video filming of the event, and write down the amount of shooting time in the contract. If additional hours are required, please discuss payment for them individually.

How do I pay for photo and video shooting services?

In most cases, the customer makes an advance payment, the amount of which is negotiated by the parties and indicated in the contract. Partial payment allows you to reserve the date of the event. The rest is paid after the finished photo or video is transferred to the customer. Sometimes the payment is divided into three parts, one of which is paid after the shooting on the day of the celebration.

Do you work independently or with an assistant? Are his services included in the price, and what kind of work does each of you do?

If an assistant takes part in the shooting, the customer must know about it. Firstly, this is another contractor on site, and secondly, you need to understand what his role is in the shooting process. It may turn out that one specialist was chosen based on his portfolio, but at the event the main work is performed not by him himself, but by his ward. What the final result will be is unclear. Therefore, you need to find out in advance what kind of work is assigned to the assistant, and how this may affect the quality of the shooting.

What places can you recommend for filming? What is our shooting route?

If you are planning a thematic shoot, how do you see it, are there any ideas for implementation?

Thematic events are not uncommon now. It is quite logical that the wishes of customers for photo and video shooting are related to the theme of the event. Tell the photographer/videographer about the format of the event, discuss how the theme can be implemented during the shooting, what places are suitable for this the best way, what simple surroundings can be used.

Do you provide accessories for filming or is it up to the customer to find them?

Often, professionals use attributes that help diversify and decorate photo and video shooting. Their range is varied: umbrellas, balloons, smoke crackers, fabrics, blankets, fruits, dishes, furniture and much more. Find out in advance who provides the accessories, whether you need to buy anything, whether the costs are included in the cost of the service package or are paid additionally.

Do you have backup equipment if something suddenly breaks down on the day of the event?

By asking this question, find out whether the professional is ready for force majeure situations and how he plans to get out of them. Based on his answer, you can understand whether the problem that has arisen will interfere with the shooting and whether he will find a solution to the current situation.

How long does photo/video processing take? When will we get the final version?

Every professional knows how much time it takes to edit video, create a film or process photographs. Depending on how busy it is, this takes from several days to several weeks. Ask this question to the photographer/videographer - he will indicate the deadline for providing finished photos/videos.

When ordering a love-story shoot, are there any discounts for wedding photography?

Many photographers/videographers offer discounts when ordering a package deal for a wedding. Ask a specialist about this - perhaps he will offer a package of services at a favorable price.

Can we choose the background music for the film ourselves or does the videographer select the music?

In most cases, this is done directly by the filmmaker. Him big choice musical works from which he selects the most suitable accompaniment. But the customer can voice his wishes - provided that the proposed music is harmoniously combined with the video, the performer can use it.

Do you provide the sources of the footage?

Some customers require video sources for possible further use. Videographers can give them away along with the finished film. Discuss this point with the contractor in advance, and if necessary, write this clause into the contract.

Do you post photos/videos of your customers on your website or on social networks?

Not everyone wants photo and video materials about their event to be publicly available. The customer has the right to ask the artist not to use photos/videos in his portfolio. Some specialists calmly agree with this, others increase the cost of services on non-disclosure terms. If the issue of confidentiality is important, it is better to indicate this clause in the contract.

A cheat sheet with questions was compiled by Valeria Nezhinskaya

A wedding ceremony is one of the brightest and most memorable moments in life, but our memory, unfortunately, cannot store all the details of this event. This is where photographs come to our aid; they allow us to capture various moments with all the nuances.

Thanks to a wedding album, even after several years, you can refresh your memory of the emotions, feelings and mood that overwhelmed you on your wedding day. High-quality photographs will please you twice as much, but good photographs can only be taken professional wedding photographer.

It’s worth starting your search for a good photographer in advance so that you have time to discuss all the nuances with him. In addition, you need to have a reserve of time to meet with another master if, in the end, the first one does not suit you.

What questions to ask the photographer when meeting?

1. The first thing you should ask is whether a contract for the provision of services is signed. Such an agreement will not only guarantee you that the work will be completed efficiently and on time, but also the photographer will have peace of mind, because his work will not go unpaid.

This is especially true if the photographer asks for an advance payment for his services. The contract must clearly indicate the transfer of money.

2. Ask if the photographer has a special education or perhaps he has completed specialized courses. For a photographer who has talent and abilities, having a document about special education, will definitely be a plus.

3. Find out how many ready-made, let’s say “official” photographs are provided to the client, in what format, and in how many copies. You may want to give photographs to your parents and other relatives, so the quantity must be discussed so that you don’t have to spend money on printing the necessary photos again.

4. It is imperative to agree on how and when payment for services is made. There is no point in handing over the entire amount in advance; force majeure and scammers have not yet been canceled.

There are photographers who, having received the entire amount at once and having worked at a wedding, begin to delay issuing finished photos- He’s just too lazy to deal with them. Either there is no time, then I got sick, then the computer broke down, then the disk with the photo was left at the dacha and other inventions and excuses.

At best, you will receive low-quality photos, and at worst, you will urgently look for another photographer and agree to all the conditions put forward by him. Prepayment when agreed in advance is a common occurrence, there is no need to be indignant.

5. If you plan to travel by vehicle, it is worth clarifying whether wedding photographer in your car or for it, plan a place in the car. Although for the most part, photographers ride along with the guests in a common motorcade.

6. Find out if the photographer has favorite places for a photo shoot. Perhaps he knows very interesting and fabulous places where you can take very beautiful photographs.

Each person has their own tastes, and therefore it is worth making a list of photography locations that will satisfy the needs of both parties.

7. Ask if the photographer works beyond the agreed time and how this time is paid. Usually photographers go hourly payment, but different things happen unseen circumstances, when the photographer has to stay late to take a few more shots, it’s precisely these moments that are best discussed right away.

8. Have you ever wedding photographer work in the registry office where the registration of the barracks will take place. It won’t be bad if the photographer is familiar with the room and doesn’t have to frantically look for favorable angles.

9. If you have a themed wedding or it will take place in a certain color scheme, then ask if the photographer can dress according to the required style. And, of course, exclude a tracksuit, torn jeans, T-shirts with bright slogans; in general, the photographer must fit into the general mass of guests.

10. Ask how long it will take for you to receive your photos. Naturally, no one will hand over the pictures the next day, since they need to be processed, but too late deadlines are also unacceptable.

Here, it’s good to manipulate money, i.e. You can pay in advance up to wedding celebration, and the rest only after receiving the finished images.

11. Which photographs will be printed and placed in the wedding album, and which ones will simply be transferred to hard media. Very often, only pictures from the registry office are printed, the rest are thrown onto a disk or flash drive.

You can immediately discuss which photos will be printed so that you don’t end up with a bunch of unnecessary photos. Otherwise, you will have to spend extra money and time to print the photos you are interested in.

12. Is it possible to make a photo album or even a book, and what is their price? It's nice to receive a finished photo album, and not a stack of photos.

13. Will there be wedding photographer post photos on your personal website as a portfolio? Perhaps you don’t want your photos to decorate someone else’s website, much less on other people’s pages on social networks.

14. Does the master have a spare camera and more? Technical equipment? Anything can happen in life, and therefore it is better to find out in advance how he will get out of force majeure situations.

15. Does the photographer have the opportunity to make black and white photos graphics? Many people like black and white photos; they look especially expressive and would like to have several of these photos in their wedding album.

16. Check whether the paid amount includes professional processing of the footage: retouching, color correction and other special effects. From which photo sessions and how many photos are post-processed?

A situation may arise when a photographer only retouches 50 photos, and everything else is paid separately.

17. Does the photographer have an assistant or does he work alone? Sometimes photographers work in pairs. At a wedding, they can duplicate the shooting process, and in case of illness or an unforeseen event they can replace each other.

18. Are any additional decorative elements, accessories, or props used in the photo shoot? Does the photographer have any props or should the newlyweds take care of their availability themselves?

19. Ask if wedding photographer Before the wedding, do a photo shoot, for example “Love-story”. This is not only an opportunity to get beautiful romantic photos, but also good way for the photographer to “take aim”, to determine the most favorable angles for the bride and groom.

In addition, many photographers provide a discount on their services when ordering a pre-wedding photo session and wedding photography at the same time.

Undoubtedly. Many couples order a photo book for their wedding anniversary. But if you are already considering such an opportunity, be sure to say so on the day of the shoot, because shooting “under the book” has its own specifics.

Do you plan a photo shoot route in advance?

As a rule, no. The choice of route depends on many factors: the time of year, time of day, duration of the shoot, your outfits, your temperament, the current situation in the city (repairs, demonstrations, etc.). Of course, if you really want to do a photo shoot in some kind, I will definitely take your wishes into account.

How is wedding photography different from others?

Wedding photography is strictly tied to the wedding date and booking a date with signing a contract is prerequisite. In addition, wedding photography is more technically difficult - additional equipment, lighting and an assistant are required.

We can't wait. Can we take the photos faster?

I, of course, am ready to meet you, not sleep at night and push other couples who are patiently waiting for their turn, but only under certain conditions. Express order fulfillment (up to 7 calendar days) +35% of the cost.

The minimum time required to shoot one of the most have wonderful days in your life - four hours. As a rule, it includes photography of the preparations, when the most tender and exciting portraits of the bride are obtained, registration photography and a short walk around the city. People who have no experience of professionally posing in front of a camera need some time to get used to the “all-seeing eye” directed at them, and only then do they relax and begin to be themselves. My main goal is to create photographs, looking at which many years later your children will say: “Mom, dad, how happy and beautiful you were on THAT day,” and you yourself will relive all the emotions that you felt many years ago. And these photographs cannot be achieved for a short time, because they cannot be staged - these are emotions that come from within, which you are not afraid to show to me - the person you trust.

What if we have special requests?

Don't keep it to yourself :) Be sure to voice them.

Do you work alone or with an assistant?

I work with an assistant who not only helps me with photographic equipment, but is also ready to help if you need to hold something, fix your hair, etc.

Do we need to take care of transportation?

Yes. The movement is entirely on the client side. For a photo shoot around the city, as a rule, you don’t need a car if you have comfortable shoes and a minimum of things. But it is useful for moving between remote locations.
One of the options often practiced during a wedding: a car brings you to the registration place and drives you for another hour or two after the ceremony. After that we walk.
The option of a rented car is also not bad, but then you need to take a friend with you as a driver. You cannot park in the center of Prague.

Can you recommend a makeup artist, hairdresser, florist, organizer?

Necessarily! I am no less interested than you in ensuring that the makeup does not run, that the bouquet does not wilt, that the wedding planner does not forget to show up for the ceremony, and that everything goes smoothly. I recommend only those specialists whose results I am more than confident in, and to whom I would contact myself without hesitation.

What camera do you have?

I still adhere to the opinion that it is a person who takes pictures, not a camera. But nevertheless, such questions occasionally come from amateur photographers. I shoot with two full-frame Canon 5D Mark IV cameras and fast prime lenses.

Do you only take photos or do you also do video?

I am taking photos. But I will be happy to advise you of operators who are engaged in professional video shooting.

We only need a photographer for registration and a short shoot with guests after the ceremony. How much will it cost?

I'm sorry, but for me this kind of shooting is not of creative interest. The minimum shooting time is four hours. This is written above.

We are having a wedding in a castle, how is filming time calculated in this case?

In this case, a coefficient of 1.1 or 1.2 is applied to the wedding package, depending on the distance from the castle. Moreover, even then the hours spent on the road are not included in the shooting time.

Will you be taking photographs of guests?

Certainly! Special attention, first of all, I pay family photos. Also, your guests will definitely have group photos with the newlyweds. All other creativity depends on the time we have.

Do we need to meet before the shoot?

As a rule, this is not necessary if we discussed all the questions that arise in advance via Skype or correspondence. But if you would like to meet your photographer in advance, then I am at your disposal :)

When should you start filming the bride's preparations?

I usually come when the bride is almost ready and the final touches are left on her makeup and hairstyle.

We don't know how to pose. Can you tell us how to stand up?

I believe that the secret of a good photo shoot is not to “correctly” stand in the right pose, unless we are talking about fashion photography, but to relax and be yourself. I will give you a certain vector of actions, but the more proactive and mobile you are, the better your photographs will turn out.

Perhaps, at least for the duration of the photo shoot, you need to go back a little to childhood, when you could easily do a cartwheel in the middle of the street and you didn’t care what others thought. Unwind, let your small child, which sits somewhere deep in each of us, breaks out. If we're talking about about couples shooting, then do not hesitate to show emotions towards your significant other. Do not for a second let go of the thought of how dear this person is to you and how dearly you love him.

In any shoot there is always a share of classical staging, when you really need to get into a beautiful pose, and then I will also come to the rescue.

What to wear to a photo shoot?

Dedicated to answering this question.

What should we do with guests at a photo shoot?

Don’t take it with you :) Come up with an activity for them - it could be a city tour, a boat ride, a relaxing holiday, a trip on an old tram, or even just let them relax at the hotel before the banquet. Believe me, they will become bored in 10 minutes during the photo shoot (well, how could it be otherwise? After all, all the attention is paid to you), and in their presence you will not be able to relax and pay attention to each other.

What to do if it rains?

If we are talking about a wedding shoot that cannot be rescheduled for another day, then, firstly, take care of umbrellas in advance. Buy clear or matching umbrellas. Ideally, make sure that the interiors in your hotel or apartment do not cause universal melancholy and pain from the tiny size of the room and the dull gray decor of the hall. In general, a light rain even adds spice and romance to your photos.

We want a photo shoot not only in Prague, but also in the castle. It can be done?

Can. But you need to count on the fact that filming in the interiors of Czech castles is not cheap and the road to the castles closest to Prague takes at least an hour one way. But on the way you can stop by cozy, cute towns and take unique pictures.

Do you provide any accessories for filming?

Each couple is individual and unique, each has their own tastes and interests, so it will be great if you come up with something for yourself that reflects your character.

We come to Prague with friends, there are several of us. Can we take 2 hours and you will take turns photographing us?

Alas. When there is no constant contact between the photographer and those being photographed, then nothing good will come from such a photo shoot. These will be classic tourist photos, where you smile tensely at the camera against the backdrop of some landmark, and nothing about who you are. That's why I'm happy to photograph both you and your friends, but not all of them at the same time.

We don't need many photos, 5-10 will be enough, 10 minutes is enough. How much is it?

Well, seriously now! Do you really think that those photos that I take and that you liked so much can be obtained in 10 minutes with the snap of your fingers? Do you really think that 5 minutes after you meet me and find yourself in front of the lens, you can completely relax and sincerely show your emotions without noticing the camera? And yes, of course, I will be happy to spend an hour and a half on the road to shoot 10 minutes :)

What time of day is best to take photos?

The best time for a photo shoot is early in the morning and before sunset.

Pros and cons of shooting in the morning:

  • beautiful light, but not for long. The sun rises quite quickly;
  • there are still practically no people in the most recognizable Prague sights;
  • you have to get up very early.

Pros and cons of pre-sunset photography:

  • softer and longer-lasting light;
  • sleepy faces;
  • All kinds of shops and shops are open, there is life in the city;
  • a lot of people.

Separate interesting option– evening or night photography in the light of lanterns. You can see an example of such a photo shoot.
