Tiger Protection Day. Happy Birthday Tiger – International Tiger Day

Russia, “Beat of Life!”, - Dmitry Zherebtsov.

On the fourth Sunday of September, residents of the Far East celebrate Tiger Day. The idea of holding this environmental holiday arose in 2000. Its initiators were the famous hunting writer Vladimir Troinin and the international charitable foundation Phoenix with the support of Russian and international environmental organizations.

The purpose of Tiger Day, as conceived by its organizers, was the desire to force residents of the Far East, as well as residents of the entire planet, to think about the need to preserve such rare representative cat family, like the Amur tiger.

The first Tiger Day in Vladivostok was celebrated with an organized festive procession. Several dozen enthusiasts dressed in homemade tiger costumes walked through the city streets with posters calling on residents of the Far East to learn to live in harmonious proximity with the “big wild cat.” The procession ended with a cheerful children's holiday on the main square of the city. A year later, in 2001, by decree of the head of the Vladivostok city administration, Tiger Day was given the status of an official city holiday. By the way, it is the tiger that is depicted on the coats of arms of Vladivostok, Primorsky Krai and many regions of Primorye. In subsequent years, not only residents of Primorye and Khabarovsk Territory, but also residents of other cities in Russia and even Europe. Campaign “Save the Tiger!” took place in 30 Russian and European zoos. And since then, many educational, charitable and mass events and events have been prepared for this Day.

The Amur tiger is the northernmost subspecies of the tiger. In addition to Russia, it lives in 14 other countries of the world, but the total number of individuals is catastrophically small. Russia is perhaps the only country on this list that has managed to slightly increase its numbers Amur tigers since the middle of the last century: today about 450–500 of these animals live in the forests of Primorye and in the south of the Khabarovsk Territory, and in Lately Every year, up to two or three tigers began to be found in the Jewish Autonomous and Amur regions.

The conservation of the Amur tiger population in our country is carried out in accordance with the legislation adopted in 2010 new edition“Strategy for the conservation of the Amur tiger in the Russian Federation.” Celebration of Tiger Day provides an excellent opportunity to implement some aspects of this strategy not only at the state, but also at the human level

Today, June 29, many countries around the world celebrate International Tiger Day. Norway today celebrates the Day of Glorification of St. Olaf, King of Norway.

International Tiger Day

Today, July 29, a holiday is celebrated all over the world - International Tiger Day, which was established in 2010 in St. Petersburg at the International Forum on the problems of preserving the tiger population - “Tiger Summit”.
The 13 states participating in the forum, in which tigers still live, initiated the establishment of this date.
During this event, a tiger population restoration program was developed, which was designed for 2010-2022 and the goal of which was to almost double the number of tigers during this period.
IN wildlife Unfortunately, today only about 5 thousand individuals have survived, and this number continues to decline.
Over the last century, the number of these animals has decreased by almost 25 times. Tigers today are highly endangered. They often become victims of poachers. This problem worries all environmental communities around the world, including in Russia.

Day of glorification of St. Olaf, King of Norway (Norway)

Today, July 29, the people of Norway celebrate the Feast of the King, St. Olaf, who is the national hero of Norway, who united this state and its Patron Saint.
The introduction of Christianity in this country is associated with the name Olaf. In 1030, on July 29, King Olaf II Haraldsson of Norway (995 - July 29, 1030), the baptist and educator of the Norwegians, fell in the Battle of Stiklestad.
IN Northern Europe Olaf, for many centuries, was one of the most revered saints. After his death at Stiklestad on July 29, 1030 in a battle with the Bonds, numerous cases of miracles were observed from his holy incorruptible relics. Olaf's glorification as a saint took place on August 3, 1031. On this day, many peasants began to appeal to him in their prayers, asking for help in their needs. From such prayers people received healing from illnesses, good luck in travel, or anything else they needed.
There, where the king was first buried, a holy spring gushed out of a sandy hill. People were cured of all their ailments by its water.

Church holiday according to the folk calendar

Finogeev day

On this day, Orthodox Christians honor the memory of the Hieromartyr Athenogenes with his ten disciples, who suffered for their faith during the persecution of Christians in the city of Sebastia.
According to legend, once the ruler Philomarchus organized a big holiday in honor of the pagan gods. He ordered all the townspeople to make sacrifices to idols, but many Sebastians at that time professed Christianity, so they refused to participate in this venture. Then the ruler ordered the soldiers to beat the apostates.
At the same time, it became known that Christianity spread in Sebastia thanks to the sermons of Elder Athenogenes, the local bishop.
Governor Philomarchus gave the order to find Athenogenes and bring him to him for trial. The soldiers sent to the elder did not find him in the monastery, but captured his ten disciples. After this, Athenogen himself came to the ruler. He began to reproach Philomarch for throwing innocent people into prison. But Athenogenes’ words had no effect on Philomarchus, and the elder and his disciples ended up in prison.
All ten students of Athenogenes showed resilience together with their teacher; even after severe torture, they refused to bow to pagan idols and were executed.
Before his death, Athenogenes heard the voice of God, who promised him and his disciples a meeting in paradise.
In Rus' it was believed that summer was at its hottest on the day of Athenogenes. The holiday itself was of great importance for the peasants - at this time in many areas the peasants began to reap rye.
According to custom, the peasants called the very first harvested sheaf the birthday one and after work in the evening they carried it with songs to the threshing floor. The birthday sheaf was kept for future ceremonies. Sick cattle were fed from it, and people were also treated with its grain. Part of the first grain was necessarily left for sowing.
On Athenogenov's Day, the peasants had omens: if the tops of carrots drooped on that day, it would rain. If frequent fogs began, the peasants prepared to pick mushrooms. From that day on, various mushroom dishes regularly appeared on the table: buckwheat with mushrooms, mushroom caviar, porcini mushroom cutlets and potatoes fried with mushrooms.
From that day on, the birds stopped singing and summer was steadily approaching autumn.

Lions, cheetahs, tigers, lynxes, leopards and jaguars are wild cats, dangerous predators, who have always delighted and attracted a wide circle of people with their grace, soft, proud gait and peculiar cat-like disposition. One of the representatives of the species, the lion, has deservedly acquired the title of king of beasts. And in honor of another, International Tiger Day is celebrated (July 29).

Purpose of the holiday

International Tiger Day was not established by chance. The purpose of the event was to attract as much people's attention as possible to the issue of the extinction of this species, the conservation of animals and an increase in their population.

In addition to International Tiger Day in our country on Far East There is another holiday that is usually held at the end of September. On this day, various current exhibitions are organized, zoos are visited, charity events and other thematic gatherings are held.

history of the holiday

International Tiger Day has been celebrated on July 29 every year since its inception in 2010. This holiday is celebrated almost all over the world. And our country did not stand aside. International Tiger Day was also celebrated in 2017. The official establishment of the holiday itself and the setting of the date was adopted at the International Forum “Tiger Summit” in St. Petersburg, which was dedicated to the topic of reducing the number of tigers, measures and methods for their protection, where this day was chosen for celebration.

The countries participating in this large-scale event initiated the organization of International Tiger Day. These directly include only those states where wild cats live. Through long negotiations, important documents were approved that play a major role in the process of saving tigers, preserving and increasing their numbers, and a day was set for International Tiger Day to be celebrated throughout the world. It is calculated that favorable results can be expected by 2022.

How is this day celebrated?

The most common tradition is to celebrate this holiday by going to the zoo, where the animals are fed a double portion of treats. Thanks to the efforts of the international association Global Tiger Initiative, animals located outside of civilization, that is, living in natural environment, get the opportunity to maintain or even increase their population. Through great efforts, the association has collected a colossal amount for the preservation and worthy maintenance of the life of this species - $350 million.

Tiger Day in Russia

In the Primorsky Territory of our country, the celebration of Far Eastern Tiger Day has been celebrated a little longer, since 2000. The tiger is depicted on the emblem of the city of Vladivostok. Therefore, it was decided to create a regional holiday dedicated to the wild cat.

In honor of International Tiger Day in kindergarten Sometimes they hold all kinds of matinees, the spectators of which are usually parents. Children wear these costumes wild cats. And they suit you very much interesting event, where poems are read about International Tiger Day.

The tiger is the second “king” after the lion

The name of the tiger comes from the word taig, which in ancient Persian translates as arrow, speed of running. This is where the name of the majestic tabby cat came from. There are many varieties of tigers, including the familiar Bengal, Amur, Caspian and South China wild cats. All of them belong to the Panther genus. Unfortunately, some species could not be saved in time, and they disappeared from our planet. There are animals that need help and are on the verge of extinction, such as the Bengal subspecies. Tiger hunting is prohibited.

The size of this animal is quite impressive and reaches about two to three meters in length and weighs more than 3 centners. Only white or Brown bear can compete with him in power and is slightly superior to his size. And if you compare the tiger with its brothers, then it is in no way inferior to the lion, leopard, jaguar or leopard. Despite the fact that all these species belong to the Feline family, they do not know how to meow, but only growl.

Nature has awarded tigers with special beauty. The wild cat is painted in bright colors, from yellow to dark red. The belly, throat and chest are white. Tiger's eyes too yellow color. There are also beautiful tigers, completely painted in White color. Their number is small. These animals are beautiful: eyes blue color and black stripes on a snow-white body.

The Far Eastern countries and India are considered to be the habitat of large and graceful cats. Not so long ago, their habitat was much wider, extending to Iran, Indochina, and Transcaucasia. But human activity there completely destroyed these animals.

The tiger is a solitary animal. He mercilessly and bravely protects his habitat. The tiger prefers to eat fresh raw meat. To do this, he hunts small or medium-sized ungulates, such as roe deer and wild boar. On rare occasions, a monkey or an alligator may be on his menu. If a predator is very hungry, it will not disdain carrion.

The reproduction of tigers does not depend on the seasons and natural conditions. The main factor is considered to be the onset of estrus in the female. A tigress's pregnancy lasts several months and produces up to four cubs.

What not everyone knows about tigers

There is no doubt that wild cats are clearly different from their domesticated relatives.

  • Tigers' vision at night is enviable; it exceeds the sharpness of human eyes by six times.
  • From the urine of their own kind, tigers receive information such as gender, age, condition reproductive system. The same liquid helps the animal mark the territory and boundaries of its habitat. Surprisingly, the smell of tiger urine is similar to the aroma of oiled popcorn.
  • Gorgeous male tigers are true gentlemen. In the process of hunting, they first of all give up the killed prey to females and cubs and only after them begin to prey.
  • An interesting fact about tiger stripes is that the stripes found on the animal's forehead resemble the Chinese symbol for "king". Not many people know that even a bald tiger will remain striped, since the skin of a wild cat retains, as if copying, the pattern.

There are also black, red, white and even blue tigers that are little known to us. And they all need our protection. Perhaps on International Tiger Day, those who exterminate animals for the sake of a beautiful trophy will think about this.

Population decline

An important problem on this moment The extinction and destruction of the population of these magnificent animals, the violation of their usual habitat, is considered. The tiger population is rapidly declining. There are approximately 6,500 individuals of this species left on our planet, of which only 450 are from the Amur, and only 30 from South China. Tigers have found shelter in China, India, Vietnam, Thailand and Laos.

Protecting Animal Life

Unfortunately, due to mass extinction and frequent cases of poaching, tigers were listed in the Red Book. In 1947, hunting was completely banned, and since 1955, a ban was also established on the capture of their offspring. The number of individuals is sharply reduced due to hunting. Animals are killed for their skins internal organs, used in oriental medicine, for example, for the production of painkillers and aphrodisiacs by Chinese craftsmen, which is prohibited and punishable by Chinese law.

The XIV Dalai Lama achieved a positive effect with his speech in 2006 at the festival of Buddhist pilgrims. After this, many festival visitors began to throw away the skins of killed tigers and even things with tiger-colored designs.

Poaching and disruption of the tigers’ usual living conditions have affected their numbers. Over a hundred years, the number of individuals has decreased from 100,000 to 3,500 tigers ready to give birth. The salvation was keeping animals in specially created reserves and zoos. Largest quantity tigers live in India. There are approximately 350 tigers in captivity.

The public plays a big role in the protection and conservation of animals. The governments of all the countries where they live make great efforts to preserve and protect these animals: laws are passed government programs, connect various organizations to achieve this goal. And congratulating the tiger on International Day in honor of him is one of them.

It appeared only 6 years ago, when the problem of preserving the predator population became acute in the world. In the wild they are becoming less and less common. Fortunately, Russia is one of the few countries where the number of these striped predators not only does not fall, but increases.

Our country is home to 95% of the population of the world's largest tiger - the Amur tiger (approximately 150 Amur tigers live in the Far East, and in total there are about 400-500 individuals in Russia). And a lot has been done for this, and measures continue to be taken to increase it.

The favorite joke of the residents of Vladivostok is that tigers roam around our city once a year, this is not a joke at all - they walk, run, jump, sing and dance, and not only “tigers”, but also “leopards”, “foxes” and even “pandas” are found because Tiger Day is celebrated in the city. We began to celebrate this holiday much earlier than in the world. Tiger Day, in the form of a noisy and fun carnival, has been taking place in Vladivostok at the end of September for 15 years.

I will tell you how Tiger Day is celebrated in my native Vladivostok. My fellow countryman - a master of his craft, a great photographer smitsmitty - will help us visit this wonderful carnival

Once upon a time, the Amur Tiger was the rightful owner of these places, but with the arrival of people, its possessions decreased, and in the 90s of the last century, poaching, deforestation, fires and other reasons brought it to the brink of extinction, the population decreased to a critical level, only Through the efforts of caring people, it was possible to preserve “The Master of the Taiga”.

To draw attention to the problem of preserving wildlife and taiga inhabitants, in 1999, children's writer and game manager Vladimir Troinin came up with fun party- Day of the Tiger.

In 2015, the symbol of the city of Vladivostok and the Primorsky Territory became the hero of the day for the 15th time; a “tiger carnival” was held in his honor in the city. About 8 thousand children and adults marched through the streets of the city with posters, chants, and chants in defense of nature and all taiga fauna.

From 10 am, columns of “mustachioed” and “striped” townspeople began to line up from the Intercession Church to the Dalpress stop. Schoolchildren, students, activists of youth organizations, commercial structures and ordinary citizens lined up in a friendly column.

Almost every participant in the procession has a tiger attribute - children have mustaches and face painting, adults did not hesitate to dress up in funny costumes.

At the head of the column are cyclists from the "VELODOM" community.

They will be followed by the guys from the Ocean All-Russian Exhibition Center.

They are perhaps the most perky - they dance to the song “Come on, all together, open your ears...”.

The winners of the most notable costumes will receive prizes.

On central square a cheerful holiday was noisy, and on Sportivnaya embankment two bronze tiger cubs, who had settled there the day before, were sad.

Perhaps they dreamed that people would become more careful about nature and not offend animals....

On Tiger Day, the capital of the Primorsky Territory acquired another attraction - a bronze monument dedicated to the owner of the taiga. Monument Amur tiger opened at the Opera and Ballet Theater.

It turns out that in one of the publications of 1910 there was a story, which was taken as a basis. When the settlers settled in these places and built a fortress, they saw a tiger descending from the hill and crossing the Golden Horn Bay on the ice. The residents tried to overtake the beast, but they failed - he turned out to be wiser, faster and more cunning.

Sculptor Vladimir Petrovichev admitted that he worries most of all: whether his sculpture will take root here, whether Vladivostok residents will like it.

He also said a few words about the history of creation:

“Probably, no sculpture has ever been made in such a short time - in a month and a half. In general, it was created in the city Pinery In workshop. Then it moved to the foundries in St. Petersburg - they cast it in bronze. Then I got to Moscow by land transport. From there I flew to Vladivostok by plane.”

The Amur tiger is the most big cat planet, in strength and power unmatched in the world fauna, a symbol of wealth and greatness untouched nature. Only he, the only one of the Panthera genus, is not afraid of snow, frost and taiga wilds. But poachers, forest fires and deforestation are terrible, which mercilessly reduce their traditional habitats and food supply.

The Amur tiger is the northernmost subspecies of the tiger. In addition to Russia, it lives in 14 other countries around the world, but the total number of individuals is catastrophically small.

International Tiger Day) is a holiday established at the International Forum on problems related to the conservation of tigers on Earth (“Tiger Summit”), in November 2010 in St. Petersburg. Celebrated annually on July 29th.

One of the main goals of holding International Tiger Day in different countries is to inform the public about the problem of extinction of tigers and ways to protect them.

The tiger is under international security, listed in the IUCN Red List, Appendix 1 of CITES. Since this year, there has been a complete ban on hunting tigers. That year, the capture of tiger cubs was prohibited and then strictly limited.

Over the last century, the number of striped individuals in the world has decreased almost a hundred times. Poachers, when shooting animals, make stuffed animals out of them, and make skins that they lay in the living rooms of rich houses. Tigers' paws are used to make medicine; In addition, tiger meat is a delicacy in a number of countries and is highly prized in restaurants. The world has reached the point where no more than five thousand of these predators remain on Mother Earth and only four hundred in our Far East.

There are only six on the planet known species graceful cats:

Amur tiger lives in Russia and China. They call it Siberian, Manchurian, Ussuri. There are some left in natural conditions habitat of about five hundred individuals.

Indochinese tiger fell in love with Cambodia, China, Vietnam, Laos, Malaysia and Thailand. It is also called corbette in another way. The species has been little studied because cats live in remote, impassable places. The population numbers approximately a thousand individuals.

Bengal tiger feels at ease on the territory of India, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Nepal. They call him royal. Of all the species, Bengal is the most numerous. There are about 1,200 tabby cats of this breed living in the wild.

Malayan tiger settled on the Malay Peninsula. The species numbers about five hundred animals.

The Chinese tiger lives only in China. It is on the verge of extinction. Only 20 cats remain in the wild and there is a real danger of the population becoming extinct.

Sumatran tiger lives only on the island of Sumatra. There are about four hundred individuals that live in natural conditions.

There are legends about blue maltese tiger, but no one has yet met it with their own eyes, so the species is not officially registered and belongs more to myths, although I would like to believe that cats with such amazing colors live on our planet.

The holiday is celebrated differently in different places: for example, in some zoos around the world, predators receive especially tasty rations and gifts on this day.

International organization Global Tiger Initiative To International Day Tiger Fund has raised about $350 million to help preserve the tiger population and said that by 2022, the wild cat population will not only not disappear, but will even double.

In Russia, on the last Sunday of September, an alternative holiday is also celebrated - Tiger Day in the Far East, which appeared in 2000. It was initiated by the hunting writer Vladimir Troinin and the international charitable foundation “Phoenix” with the support of Russian and international environmental organizations.

In 2001, by a resolution of the head of the Vladivostok city administration, Tiger Day was given the status of an annual official city holiday. According to tradition, the holiday in the city begins with a carnival procession; the celebration program also includes competitions and competitions.

Russian President Vladimir Putin called Tiger Day in the Far East the brightest ecological holiday countries. According to Putin, this day unites “everyone who cares about the fate of this beautiful predator, everyone who is not indifferent to wild nature and strives to live in harmony with it, protect it, creating a healthy environment both for ourselves and for future generations."
