Prayer rule– 1) daily morning and evening rituals performed by Christians (recommended texts can be found in); 2) regulated reading of these prayers.

The rule can be general - mandatory for everyone, or individual, selected for a believer taking into account his spiritual state, strength and employment.

Consists of morning and evening prayers, which are performed daily. This vital rhythm is necessary, because otherwise the soul easily falls out of prayer life, as if waking up only from time to time. In prayer, as in any big and difficult matter, “inspiration”, “mood” and improvisation are not enough.

Reading prayers connects a person with their creators: the psalmists and ascetics. This helps to gain a spiritual mood akin to their heartfelt burning. There are three basic prayer rules:

Thus, by cultivating a reasonable attitude towards the prayer rule, Saint Theophan the Recluse writes to one family person:

“Bless, Lord, and continue prayer according to your rule. But never commit yourself to a rule and think that there is anything valuable in having such a rule or always following it. The whole price is in heartfelt surrender before God. The saints write that if someone does not leave prayer as a condemned man, worthy of all punishment from the Lord, then he leaves it as a Pharisee. From blood- perhaps we are talking about the shed blood of Uriah, as well as about God’s punishment according to the Old Testament law for unrighteously shed blood. This is what God says to Noah: Whoever sheds the blood of man, his blood will be shed by the hand of man: for man was created in the image of God.

God of my salvation- God, my Savior.

My tongue will rejoice in Your righteousness- May my tongue tell in joy about Your truth and mercy.

The Creed is a summary of the main tenets of the Orthodox faith. Adopted at the Council of Nicaea in 325 (Part I) and supplemented at the Council of Constantinople (Constantinople) in 381. It has a protective function in protecting against heretical teachings.

First prayer, Saint

This is not grace and gift, but duty is greater- (then) this is not grace and gift, but more of a duty (i.e., what is properly due as a reward for deeds).

To her- yes, true.

Believe in Me, thou art“For he who believes in Me,” You said (to Christ) (see John 6:47: He who believes in Me has eternal life).

Even if faith, even in You, saves the desperate, behold, I believe- so, if faith in You saves those who despair (those who have lost all hope), then behold, I believe (and ask).

You will not find works that will justify me- for you will not find any works that justify me.

May it prevail– may (it, i.e. faith) be sufficient.

Let her answer, let her justify me, let her show me a participant- but may she give an answer (for me), may she justify me, may she make me a participant.

Let Satan snatch me away and boast in the Word- So, let not Satan take possession of me and not boast (about this), O Word (of God).

Just turn me away- that I am rejected.

Ninth prayer to the Guardian Angel

Holy Angel, standing before my damned soul and my passionate life, do not forsake me, a sinner, and depart from me for my intemperance. Do not give room to the crafty demon to possess me with the violence of this mortal body; strengthen my poor and thin hand and guide me on the path of salvation. To her, holy Angel of God, guardian and patron of my accursed soul and body, forgive me everything that I have offended you with in so many ways all the days of my life, and if I sinned in this past night, cover me on this day , and keep me from every temptation of the enemy May I not anger God in any sin, and pray for me to the Lord, that He may strengthen me in His passion, and show me worthy as a servant of His goodness. Amen.

Ahead of my damned soul and my passionate life- placed as a guard, protecting my poor, pitiful, struggle-filled soul and my unhappy (subject to disasters and passions) life.

Below, step away from me- and don’t retreat, don’t move away (don’t move away, don’t give up) from me.

Do not give room to the crafty demon to possess me, with the violence of this mortal body– do not give the opportunity (do not allow) the evil and insidious demon to take possession of me (subdue me) through oppression, enslavement of my mortal body (through my bodily passions).

Strengthen my poor and thin hand and guide me on the path of salvation- strengthen (lit. take tightly) my unfortunate, drooping, weak, weak-willed hand (by hand they usually mean will) and lead me to the path of salvation.

To her- yes, true.

Forgive me for all the ways I have offended you- Forgive me for everything I have done to offend you.

If I sinned this past night, cover me- if I sinned in anything this past night, protect me, protect me.

From every nasty temptation– from every enemy (i.e., devilish) temptation.

Yes, in no sin will I anger God- so that I don’t anger God with any sin.

May He strengthen me in His passion- and may He strengthen in me the fear of (grieving) Him. Wed. Proverbs 1:7: The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord.

Prayer tenth, to the Most Holy Theotokos

My Most Holy Lady Theotokos, through Your saints and all-powerful prayers, take away from me, Your humble and accursed servant, despondency, oblivion, foolishness, negligence, and all that is filthy, bow ugly and blasphemous thoughts from my damned heart and from my darkened mind; and extinguish the flame of my passions, for I am poor and damned. And deliver me from many and cruel memories and enterprises, and free me from all evil actions. For Thou art blessed from all generations, and glorified is Thy most honorable name forever and ever. Amen.

Get rid of me- drive away, get away from me.

The Humble and the Damned- dejected, exhausted, poor, pitiful, pitiable.

Oblivion- forgetfulness, inattention (in the matter of salvation).

Negligence– lack of diligence, effort; negligence.

Nasty- unclean.

Crafty- angry, envious.

Beggar- here: poor in virtues, lacking them.

Fierce memories and enterprises– cruel, harmful thoughts (images) and plans, intentions.

Your heritage– lit. - Your heritage (i.e., the believers).

On the resistance- over enemies, adversaries.

Preserving Your residence by Your Cross– by the power of Your Cross preserving Your people ( residence here in meaning residents), Your people (i.e. Christians).

Save, Lord, and have mercy on my spiritual father (name), my parents (names), relatives (names), leaders, mentors, benefactors (their names) and all Orthodox Christians.

Prayer for the departed

Rest in peace, Lord, the souls of your departed servants: my parents, relatives, benefactors (their names), and all Orthodox Christians, and forgive them all sins, voluntary and involuntary, and grant them the Kingdom of Heaven.

About the departed- about the dead (about the deceased). The dead are called “dead” because they will one day rise from their graves (as if from sleep) and be resurrected.

End of prayers

It is worthy to eat as you truly bless Theotokos, Ever-Blessed and Most Immaculate and Mother of our God. We magnify Thee, the most honorable Cherub and the most glorious without comparison, the Seraphim, who gave birth to God the Word without corruption.

The author of the song “More Honest Cherub...” is considered to be St. Cosmas, Bishop of Maium, creator of the canons (†787). And the first part - “It is worthy to eat...” - according to legend, was sung before the icon of the Most Holy Theotokos by an Angel who appeared in the 10th century to a monk on Athos.

It is worthy to eat as one truly bless Thee Theotokos- It is truly fair to glorify You, Mother of God.

Ever Blessed and Most Immaculate- always blessed, always glorified and supremely, completely immaculate.

Most honorable Cherub- awarded greater honor than the Cherubim (Angels closest to God after the Seraphim).

The most glorious without comparison, Seraphim- incomparably most glorious, more famous than the Seraphim (Angels who are closest to God, the highest of the nine ranks of the Heavenly powers, the ranks of Angels).

Without decay- painless, undamaged.

Real Mother of God- the true Mother of God.

Glory, and now: Lord, have mercy. (Thrice)

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, prayers for the sake of Your Most Pure Mother, our reverend and God-bearing fathers and all the saints, have mercy on us. Amen.

(2) From Easter to Ascension, instead of this prayer, the troparion is read: “Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and giving life to those in the tombs.” (Three times) From Ascension to Trinity, we begin prayers with “Holy God...”, omitting all the preceding ones.
