AGNIYA BARTO “VOVKA IS A GOOD SOUL”
The cycle of poems by Agnia Barto “Vovka the Good Soul,” which was written in 1962, includes quite a large number of poems. Most often, books with poems from the series “Vovka the Good Soul” were published in a “truncated” version. The cycle includes 18 poems, and usually 8-9 were published in various combinations. And some poems, for example, “How Vovka became an adult,” were almost never included in collections. Nevertheless, many poems from this cycle have become loved by more than one generation of children, and the name Vovka has since become a household name.

1. VOVKA – A KIND SOUL
Yesterday I was walking along Sadovaya,
I was so surprised
White-headed boy
He shouted to me from the window:
Good morning!
Good morning!
I asked: Is this for me?
He smiled at the window
He shouted to someone else:
Good morning!
Good morning!
For kids and adults
The boy waved his hand
Let's get to know him now:
This is Vovka!

2. HOW VOVKA HELPED GRANDMOTHERS
On Grandmother's Boulevard
Grandchildren are cradled
Sing ok to the grandchildren,
And the kids are screaming.
Two Olenkas burst into tears,
They are hot in the summer heat,
Andrey, naked in a stroller,
Screams like a clockwork.
Okay, okay
Oh, grandmothers are tired,
Oh, screaming Irochka
Not easy to calm down.
Well, again to the rescue
Vovka needs to be called.
Vova is a kind soul,
Have fun with the baby!
He approached the grandmothers,
He stood next to them,
Suddenly he jumped up and sang:
Okay, okay!
The screamers fell silent
They are so surprised:
Sings okay songs
A boy instead of a grandmother!
Both laughed at once
Little Olenki,
And Andrey does not frown,
And he laughs, naked.
Vovka dances on the path:
Okay, okay!
This is the kind of helper we have!
Grandmothers are happy.
They say to him: Thank you!
So dance
We couldn't!
3. HOW VOVKA BECAME A BIG BROTHER
I have an older brother,
Very smart guy!
Assures all the guys
Tanya on the boulevard.
He wears a red tie
In pioneer uniform
Weeds in the garden
Uproots!
And fatty Valechka
He boasts about his older brother:
If anyone offends me
The older brother will see through the window.
If I cried
He will teach everyone a lesson.
He's ready to save me
And from the fierce tiger.
He's almost ten years old
His name is Pavlik.
Katya in a red dress
How to pay:
I am no one's sister
The cat bit me yesterday.
Well, bite me, scratch me
I'm alone with my mom and dad,
I have no brothers
Mom and dad are all relatives.
He approaches her slowly
Vova is a kind soul.
He announces to the guys:
I will be Katya's older brother.
Since Monday, in the morning,
You will be my sister.
4. ABOUT VOVKA, TURTLE AND CAT
This is what happened
The turtle has lost weight!
The head has become small
The tail is too thin!
That's what Vovka once said,
Made the girls laugh.
Have you lost weight? Well, hardly!
The girls laugh.
We gave her milk
I drank the entire saucer.
The turtle wears a shell!
You see, she stuck her nose out
And two pairs of legs!
The turtle wears a shell
Can't lose weight.
The turtle has lost weight!
Vova assures.
We need to find out what's wrong
Maybe she's unwell?
Vovka looks from the window,
He sees a cat sneaking,
She came up and licked the saucer
What a cheat!
No, the girls are laughing in vain!
Here, Vovka shouts to them,
Look, the cat ate
Breakfast is turtle!
The turtle has lost weight
Because of your cat!

5. HOW THE WIND HELPED VOVKA
Leaves Leaves Leaf fall
Do not clear
School garden.
Leaves, leaves
On a way,
There are leaves on the platform,
And the playground
Post
The football players came out.
Only leaves
You'll sweep it away
It will only become clean
They're flying again
Like yellow rain
Leaves, leaves, leaves
The wind rustles the leaves,
Seeing off summer.
Vovka is a kind soul
He shouted loudly to the wind:
Why did you let the guys down?
How to play football now?
You could sweep up the leaves yourself!
Only Vovka asked
The wind blew as hard as it could,
Swept away the foliage from the site,
Everything is fine now.

6. WHY WAS VOVKA ANGRY?
Andryusha is a cunning one
Not a step without tricks!
He threw the ball onto the roof
One morning.
They shout to him: Do you hear,
End this game!
And he is cunning: I don’t hear.
And again the ball hits the roof.
He tripped the cat
Pushed her furtively
Said he was teaching the cat
Be a cat acrobat.
He's covered in soot and soot,
Cunning: You clap for me,
I go out on calls
I'm a clown on TV.
Andryusha is a cunning one
Not a step without tricks!
I'll go to sleep on the grass,
The bed is not good
Angry at the sly guy
Vova is a kind soul.
All the neighbors came running,
They say: This is a rare case
Vovka waves his fist!
What happened to the good guy?
He took Andryusha by the shoulders
And let's shake it like a pear!
Need these tricks
Shake it out of Andryusha!..

7. HOT
The sun has a rule:
It spread its rays,
Spread out in the morning
And it's hot on the ground.
It's across the blue sky
Spread rays
The heat is so intense
At least shout guard!
Residents are exhausted
In Zagorsk-town.
They drank all the water
At the kiosk and at the stall.
The boys became blacks
Although we haven’t been to Africa.
It's hot, it's hot, I have no strength!
At least it would drizzle.
Hot in the morning, hot in the afternoon,
I wish I could get into a river, into a pond,
I wish I could get into the river, into the lake,
Wash your face with rain.
Someone moans: Oh, I’m going to die!..
Difficult in extreme heat
For example, for fat women:
They began to lose heart.
And a girl about five years old
I couldn't walk
Hanged on my father
Like a rocker.
It's hot, it's hot, I have no strength!
At least it would drizzle.
Vovka would cause a thunderstorm
You can't talk to a cloud.
She is in heaven, he is below.
But just in case
Shouts: Well, where are you, thunderstorm?
You make noise when you shouldn't!
And he waits for a long time, raising his eyes,
He is at the garden gate.
It's hot, it's hot, I have no strength!..
A passerby asked for a drink:
Vova is a kind soul,
Let me drink from the ladle!
Vovka is a kind soul
Carrying water without breathing
You can't skip here
You'll spill half a ladle.
Vovka, two girlfriends are asking,
Bring us a mug too!
I'll splash you from a bucket,
Substitute handfuls
Thirty degrees in the morning
In the city of Zagorsk,
And higher and higher the mercury
Gotta do something
Something needs to be done
So that the coolness comes,
So as not to hang their noses
People in hot hours.
Vovka is a kind soul
Working in the barn
Something is slowly sticking,
Crafts, trying.
Vovka is a kind soul
And three more kids.
The boys have no time for games:
Everyone offers
How to beat the heat
Frustrated citizens.
In the city of Zagorsk
Hills and hills,
No matter the street or mountain.
The old lady was walking up the mountain,
She wailed: Oh, it's hot!
It would be time to die.
Suddenly on a hill, on a slope,
He gives her a gift,
Hands out a paper fan
Vovka is a guy of about five years old.
Like, walk faster,
It's easier to go with a fan.
Fan yourself along the way.
Vovka is a kind soul
And three more kids,
And there are eight boys too
Singing on the slope:
Get it, citizens!
Paper fans,
Get fans
So that the heat does not torment you.
We give it away for free,
We don't take it back.
The old lady sat down on the bench,
Fanned herself
Says: Another thing
The wind blew.
Fanned himself
Citizen with a beard
Walked confidently
Businesslike gait.
And it went like a conveyor belt:
Everyone waves a fan.
The fans are swaying
People can breathe easier.

8. WHEN THE THUNDER CLASHED
People sleep and birds sleep
The silence is complete.
Lighted up the dark garden
Lightning! Lightning!
Strong wind on the bushes
Came in waves
And again from the darkness
Lightning! Lightning!
Wind, hurricane wind
Hit trees on the legs
And the trunks crack,
And the garden trembles.
It's raining, it's raining,
Beats the drums.
Thunder rumbles, thunder rumbles.
Lightning! Lightning!
No, it won't end well
Grandmother said.
Lightning, lightning
The maple was scorched.
Broken by a hurricane
He leaned over.
The branches broke
We went down.
Bird house birdhouse,
Bending over, he hung.
Bird house over the abyss.
If there is a chick in it,
Fall, dear friend,
And it's all over!
Vovka follows his neighbor
Walks and walks endlessly:
We need to help out the chick!
Climb a tree
I would fit in if I were you.
Vovka climbed birch trees,
But heavy maple is bulky!
Try to grab it
It’s difficult for a guy of five years old!
Vovka asks Aunt Shura:
You love physical education,
Useful for sportswomen
Climb a tree.
Aunt Shura didn’t climb,
I didn’t believe Vovka.
And the boys are fishing
Vovka throws sticks up,
He wants to scare the chick:
Fly away somewhere!
Don't agitate him
The neighbor smiles
He changed his apartment a long time ago,
There is no one in the birdhouse.
Vovka follows his neighbor
Walks and follows:
No, the chick is probably there!
Climb a tree
I would get in if I were you
If I were as tall as you,
I would have saved the chick long ago.
I brought my neighbor to this point,
He took a nap after lunch
And I saw this dream:
There's a black maple on the hill,
And under him are four Vovkas,
Like four twins.
They keep repeating without stopping:
“We need to help out the chick,
We need to help the chick out!”
Then the neighbor jumped out of bed,
It goes down into the garden from the porch,
He says: But in fact,
We need to help out the chick.
Aunt Shura is running
With a worried face:
Physical education is good for me
I'll go after the chick.
And the fishing boys
They are returning just in time.
White-headed boy
He says: I am a steeplejack!
They began to argue: how to get in,
How to tie a rope.
Suddenly a chick, so funny,
Flies out of the birdhouse,
Tumbling on the fly,
Gaining altitude.
He wasn't afraid of thunder
But, having heard a loud argument,
He gathered his strength
And he sped off into the open air.

9. INVISIBLE CAT
1
Winter, winter in Zagorsk.
Winter has come to visit.
Houses shine from whiteness,
Ancient chapels.
Winter, winter! Winter has come!
Zagorsk is as good as new.
Walked through the streets and courtyards
Winter, winter is beautiful.
No, to the best painters
You can't handle whitewash like that!
And Vovka is a kind soul
Calls his friends.
Snowballs are flying, snowballs are flying,
Friends are screaming.
One in the snow, the other in the snow,
Nobody wants to be in debt.
This is how they warm up in winter,
It's like the month of May.
And the boy will come home
At least squeeze it!
Vova has a well-aimed hand,
Vovka has a true eye.
Threw a snowball from afar
And right on top!
And Petya, such a hulk,
He leaned down slowly
Threw the snowball with the wrong hand.
Everyone laughs: left-handed.
Petya has a left hand
Wants to be in charge
There's no way he can handle her
He can't get along with her at all.
And here are the ridicule and giggles,
At least don't go play in the snow.
Well, there is such a country,
There is such a city
Where you can eat in peace
Left hand?
Where they don’t say at dinner:
“Smirnov, which hand do you eat with?”
Snowballs are flying, snowballs are flying
Lefty! the boys laugh.
It got dark. The lights are on in the windows.
Do you want, Vovka says,
If you want, I'll bring it tomorrow
An invisible cat?
The boys are going home
Slowly, in an embrace.
Do you want me to bring the cat?
Just keep in mind
And Vovka, a great inventor,
Whispering about something with the left-handed man.

2
There is a kindergarten in Zagorsk
(Leninskaya, 30),
There have been miracles recently
Things started to happen.
Petya drew the rails,
The white sheet was lined,
And the girls, five friends,
Dressed dolls.
Marusya suddenly says:
Someone meowed?!
Where is the cat? Not visible.
Well, let's see.
Where is the cat? Where is she,
Invisible cat?
How our Petka heard
Someone meowed
Petka immediately pencil
Once in the other hand.
This morning it happened like this:
Gave Petya some tea,
He uses the spoon with the wrong hand
I took it without noticing.
Close again, close
How the pussy meows!
Where is the cat? Not visible.
Well, let's see
Where is the cat? Where is she,
Invisible cat?
At noon it happened like this:
Petya out of habit
He jerked his left hand
Katya by the pigtails.
As soon as the cat meows,
Like when you hear a cat,
Boy in the other hand
Carrying the spoon.
Oh, reproaches and reproaches
Tired of Petka,
Tired of Petka
Worse than bitter radish.
But it's a completely different matter
If the cat wanted
Let me help you a little.
But where did the cat go?
Where is this cat?
No, this cat
Not four legs.
Vovka is a kind soul
That's who this cat is.

10. ABOUT VOVKA AND THE BABY DOG
The neighbor's puppy has grown up so much, His name is Malyutka, But now he is a huge dog, He can hardly fit into the booth, Malyutka is sitting on a chain. What can you do? Be patient! This is such a job!
Will someone pass by, Will the gate open, He looks around. Where are you going? To us? Barks, as expected, at every passerby.
He always barks at the cat, scares away the chickens, but there’s just one problem. He sleeps too soundly.
Let someone drive into the yard, Let the trucks rattle, Let strangers burst into the gate, He won’t get out of the kennel, Forget about Baby.
- Come on, get out! The owner is angry. She says: I’ll sell you, You’re lazy beyond your years, I’ll take another puppy, Not such a quitter!
No, Vova doesn’t want Baby to be sold at all. What will happen to the poor guy then? Will he be taken somewhere?..
Now he wakes up the dog, as soon as it falls asleep. The dog sleeps on a chain, He shouts: Don’t sleep, don’t sleep!
A cat appeared, Well, bark a little!
Well, wake up, you're at work! Bark quickly. Two aunts are coming! You bark at them! And then quickly wave your tail!
So he will pester Baby, the dog will jump out of the booth, and how he will bark! And then he wags his tail cheerfully.

11. THINK, THINK
This is Vovka, what an eccentric!
He sits gloomy
He tells himself this:
“Think, Vovka, think!”
Will climb into the attic
Or rushes, what an eccentric,
To the far corner of the garden;
He tells himself this:
“You have to think, you have to think!”
He believes that from thoughts
His mind matures.

And Marusya, she is five years old,
Asks Vovka for advice
And say: in how many days
Is the mind getting smarter?

12. HOW VOVKA BECAME AN ADULT
The boys are growing before our eyes!
Lived in my poems once
Vova is a kind soul.
(That's the baby's nickname!)
And now he's a grown-up little guy,
Looks about twelve years old
And readers, perhaps
Adult Vovka will surprise you.
Vovka ended with kindness,
He decided he was embarrassed
IN mature age like this
Be some kind person!
He blushed at this word,
I began to feel ashamed of kindness,
To look more stern, he
He pulled cats by their tails.
Pulling cats' tails
And after waiting for darkness,
He asked them for forgiveness
For mistreatment.
Know everything that he is unkind,
Angrier than a wolf! Angrier than a cobra!
Be careful, or I'll kill you! -
He threatened the sparrow.
I walked around with a slingshot for a whole hour,
But then I got upset
I buried her on the sly
In the garden under a bush.
He's sitting on the roof now
Hiding, not breathing,
Just not to hear:
“Vovka is a kind soul!”

13. VOLODYA VOVKA VOVA
There is a young boy
His name is Volodenkoy
And they call her Vova.
He is a poor boy, He kicks the ball until it gets dark, And from the open window names are heard:
- Volodya, Vovka, Vova! -And he didn’t say a word in response.
- Where did he go, finally! Go to lunch, tomboy! -The aunt screams angrily. And the mother sighs meekly. And the sound is heard again: Volodya, Vovka, Vova! –
People are calling him from all sides, People are shouting at him through the window. Vovka has several names, But he doesn’t want to answer any of them yet!
- Volodya, Vovka, Vova! -But he doesn’t hear the call!
Finally, with great difficulty, they invite Vovka into the house.
Before he had time to drink his tea, someone shouted: Help me out! Vovka, someone shouted, Protect the gate! –
If they call him into the house, He doesn’t hear the call, But into the yard - he’s right there: Not even two minutes have passed, He’s kicking the ball again.
And from the open window names are heard: Volodya! Vovka! Vova! Volodya! Vovka! Wow! –
And he didn’t say a word in response.

14. CLEANING SHOES
Having been in repair,
Uncle's shoes
They creaked and squeaked.
There was no more sadness!
No matter how hard he tried,
Sneaked on tiptoes
And stood on his heels,
The boots were not silent.
The neighbor moans: God,
My peace is lost!
I'm covered in goosebumps
From such music!
So much creaking, so much squeaking!
Only Vovka is delighted.
Uncle Vasya, go for a walk!
Every now and then he asks.
Everyone gives advice to uncle.
Everyone sympathizes in trouble:
You need to soak your soles,
Take a walk in the rain!
On a day off, riding in a boat,
Put your feet in the water
And soak your soles
On the way!
Their uncle lowered them into the water,
I wore them in bad weather
Wet from head to toe,
And the shoes keep squeaking.
Uncle Vasya oiled them,
The creaking started again
Everyone said:
Take off your shoes!
No more patience!

15. I MEET AN OLD WOMAN.
We are not told to treat old people with indifference. I met an old lady. A short old lady, with two bulldogs on her sides.
I decided that two bulldogs was a lot for an old lady. I asked: “Aren’t you tired? Do you need help? Do you have enough strength in your hands to lead them on leashes?”
Then the bulldogs growled, and she said sternly: “There was no sadness, go away for God’s sake!”
She pulled on the leashes, and the two bulldogs became silent, like obedient puppies.

16. A FRIEND REMINDED ME YESTERDAY
A friend reminded me yesterday
How much good he did to me:
He once gave me a pencil
(I forgot my pencil case that day)
In the wall newspaper, almost every one,
He mentioned me.
I fell and got wet
It helped me dry out.
It's for a dear friend
I didn’t spare a pie
He once gave me a bite,
And now I put it into account.
Doesn't appeal to me guys
More to a friend. Doesn't attract.

17. THERE ARE SUCH BOYS
We are looking at the boy
He is somehow unsociable! He frowns, sulks, as if he drank vinegar.
Vovochka comes out into the garden,
Gloomy, as if sleepy. I don’t want to say hello, he hides his hand behind his back.
We are sitting on a bench, He sat to the side, unsociable, He doesn’t take the ball, He’s about to cry.
We thought and thought, We thought, we came up with: We will be like Vovochka, Gloomy, gloomy.
We went out into the street and began to frown.
Even little Lyuba, who is only two years old, also stuck out her lips and pouted like an owl.
Look! we shout to Vova. Are we okay with frowning?
He looked at our faces
He was about to get angry, Suddenly he burst out laughing. He doesn’t want to, but he laughs louder than a bell.
He waved his hand at us: Am I really like that?
You are so! we shout to Vova, our eyebrows frown more and more.
He asked for mercy: Oh, I don’t have the strength to laugh!
He is now unrecognizable. We sit on a bench with him, and we call him: Vova, the former unsociable.
He will want to frown, He will remember us and laugh.

18. STRANGE CAT
We still don’t understand: What was the argument about? A stranger’s cat came into our yard yesterday. And the mothers from the windows Scold us because of the cats: “Don’t come close to her, your pussy will scratch you!” There are different cats walking around here. What if they’re contagious? ?
And it went, as they say, The whole entrance was noisy, And the mothers had such faces, As if a tigress had come to us and was about to eat someone!
A grandmother shouts from the balcony, an old woman in a dark shawl: “Well, tell me, please, did the cats bother you?”
– But we don’t drive her away! Everyone was chattering here. Let him sit at least day and night on our territory. You misunderstood us, We don’t wish harm on her, but the stranger cat got offended and left.

Great ones about poetry:

Poetry is like painting: some works will captivate you more if you look at them closely, and others if you move further away.

Small cutesy poems irritate the nerves more than the creaking of unoiled wheels.

The most valuable thing in life and in poetry is what has gone wrong.

Marina Tsvetaeva

Of all the arts, poetry is the most susceptible to the temptation to replace its own peculiar beauty with stolen splendors.

Humboldt V.

Poems are successful if they are created with spiritual clarity.

The writing of poetry is closer to worship than is usually believed.

If only you knew from what rubbish poems grow without knowing shame... Like a dandelion on a fence, like burdocks and quinoa.

A. A. Akhmatova

Poetry is not only in verses: it is poured out everywhere, it is all around us. Look at these trees, at this sky - beauty and life emanate from everywhere, and where there is beauty and life, there is poetry.

I. S. Turgenev

For many people, writing poetry is a growing pain of the mind.

G. Lichtenberg

A beautiful verse is like a bow drawn through the sonorous fibers of our being. The poet makes our thoughts sing within us, not our own. By telling us about the woman he loves, he delightfully awakens in our souls our love and our sorrow. He's a magician. By understanding him, we become poets like him.

Where graceful poetry flows, there is no room for vanity.

Murasaki Shikibu

I turn to Russian versification. I think that over time we will turn to blank verse. There are too few rhymes in the Russian language. One calls the other. The flame inevitably drags the stone behind it. It is through feeling that art certainly emerges. Who is not tired of love and blood, difficult and wonderful, faithful and hypocritical, and so on.

Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin

-...Are your poems good, tell me yourself?
- Monstrous! – Ivan suddenly said boldly and frankly.
- Do not write anymore! – the newcomer asked pleadingly.
- I promise and swear! - Ivan said solemnly...

Mikhail Afanasyevich Bulgakov. "Master and Margarita"

We all write poetry; poets differ from others only in that they write in their words.

John Fowles. "The French Lieutenant's Mistress"

Every poem is a veil stretched over the edges of a few words. These words shine like stars, and because of them the poem exists.

Alexander Alexandrovich Blok

Ancient poets, unlike modern ones, rarely wrote more than a dozen poems during their long lives. This is understandable: they were all excellent magicians and did not like to waste themselves on trifles. Therefore, behind every poetic work of those times there is certainly hidden an entire Universe, filled with miracles - often dangerous for those who carelessly awaken the dozing lines.

Max Fry. "Chatty Dead"

I gave one of my clumsy hippopotamuses this heavenly tail:...

Mayakovsky! Your poems do not warm, do not excite, do not infect!
- My poems are not a stove, not a sea, and not a plague!

Vladimir Vladimirovich Mayakovsky

Poems are our inner music, clothed in words, permeated with thin strings of meanings and dreams, and therefore, drive away the critics. They are just pathetic sippers of poetry. What can a critic say about the depths of your soul? Don't let his vulgar groping hands in there. Let poetry seem to him like an absurd moo, a chaotic pile-up of words. For us, this is a song of freedom from a boring mind, a glorious song sounding on the snow-white slopes of our amazing soul.

Boris Krieger. "A Thousand Lives"

Poems are the thrill of the heart, the excitement of the soul and tears. And tears are nothing more than pure poetry that has rejected the word.
