JSC Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant Kupol, which is part of JSC Concern VKO Almaz-Antey, specializes in the production of short-range anti-aircraft missile systems (SAMs)

In the 70s of the last century, the Osa-AKM air defense system gained world fame, which is still in service in more than 15 countries. He repeatedly participated in real combat operations and showed excellent results in local military conflicts in various "hot" spots of the world.

In the late 1980s, to combat high-precision air attack weapons, a fundamentally new short-range anti-aircraft missile system (SAM) "Tor" was created, in the development of which the experience of creating the Osa-AKM air defense system and the best achievements of scientific thought of that time were used.

The development of means of electronic countermeasures and suppression necessitated further improvement of the Tor air defense system. Therefore, at the end of the 90s, the Tor-M1 air defense system was developed, which, in terms of its firepower, was 2 times superior to the Tor air defense system, realizing the ability to simultaneously hit 2 targets at altitudes from 10 meters to 10 kilometers and at a distance of up to 12 km. The system was in demand not only by the Russian army, but also by foreign customers. The Hellenic Republic, one of the countries participating in the NATO bloc, several years ago, when the question arose of strengthening the national air defense system, opted for the Tor-M1 air defense system and the Osa-AKM air defense system, which can be considered as a convincing example of their efficiency and compliance with modern requirements. The Tor-M1 air defense system has been delivered to 5 countries of the world, where it has been on combat duty for more than 15 years, reliably covering important military and government facilities from air attack.

The next step towards improving the combat characteristics of air defense systems of the Tor class was the creation in 2007-2009 of the Tor-M2E air defense system (on a tracked chassis) and the Tor-M2K air defense system (on a wheeled chassis), which have high reliability and efficiency in the fight against actively maneuvering air targets, guided and planning aerial bombs, anti-radar and cruise missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles, aircraft and helicopters. Each complex allows you to detect and process up to 48 targets, simultaneously track up to 10 of the most dangerous targets and ensure the simultaneous defeat of four targets by four anti-aircraft guided missiles (SAM) at a distance of up to 15 km.

The process of capturing and tracking targets in the Tor family air defense systems is automated. Any of the targets proposed by the machine can be selected for shelling. When the target enters the missile launch and readiness zone, the commander presses the START button. The SAM is automatically aimed at the target, at the meeting point of the missile and the target, the warhead of the missile is detonated, which ensures reliable destruction of the air target.

High accuracy and modern methods for calculating guidance parameters, combined with special combat equipment for missiles, provide the complex with a high probability of hitting all types of air targets.

In recent years, the Kupol plant has significantly expanded the range of manufactured complexes. So, the Tor air defense system is now developed in several versions: on a wheeled and tracked chassis, as well as in the form of an autonomous combat module. The tracked chassis is indispensable on rough terrain, when it is necessary to cover troops and tank columns on the move. In the presence of a network of roads, the option on a wheeled body chassis is suitable. The autonomous combat module is not tied to the chassis, therefore it can be placed in a stationary version near covered objects, on the roofs of buildings and structures, on hard-to-reach areas, trailers, semi-trailers, on railway platforms and even on small-tonnage ships capable of withstanding a load of more than 20 tons. This allows you to significantly expand the functionality of the complex, provide air defense for various military formations of different types and branches of the Armed Forces, the most important state, military and industrial facilities, large cities (megacities), provide reliable protection against air terrorists of major international sporting events, for example, the Olympic Games or football world championships.

The main purpose of JSC IEMZ Kupol is the manufacture of products designed to protect the peaceful skies of Russia - anti-aircraft missile systems of the Tor family. The correct choice of the strategy for the development of civilian production has become one of the important factors for the success of the conversion activities carried out at the plant. Today, the range of civilian products at the "Kupol" is very large and is constantly expanding. In an effort to diversify production, IEMZ "Kupol" is actively developing production.

The production of civilian products at the Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant "Kupol" is constantly developing - the range of products is expanding, their characteristics are improving, production is being improved. Development goes in several directions.

Since 1997, the Kupol plant has been producing ultra-pure lead of the 9999th sample, and since 2007, the production of products from environmentally friendly low-alpha active solder tin alloys has been mastered. This is the only such production in Russia. Ultra-pure materials of "dome" production are purchased by the world's leading manufacturers of microelectronics.

In 2005, a subsidiary of JSC IEMZ Kupol, CJSC Rester, for the first time in Russia, produced solutions for peritoneal dialysis in containers made of a chlorine-free multilayer film based on polypropylene. Today, more than 15 types of various infusion solutions are produced here, which makes it possible to provide Russian patients with world-class medicines.

It is worth mentioning the metal-carbon nanocomposites produced at Kupol. The company has implemented a unique technology for the chemical production of nanomaterials, which makes it possible to obtain not just a nanomaterial, but a metal-carbon nanocomposite. Technologies for obtaining about 20 types of metal-containing nanostructures in carbon shells (based on copper, iron, nickel, cobalt, etc.) have been developed. Dome-produced nanomaterials are supplied to Russian enterprises for the modification of various materials in order to significantly improve their properties at minimal cost.

The systems of treatment facilities developed by Kupol specialists with modern environmentally friendly biochemical treatment technology are also in demand - they have already been built for a number of large industrial enterprises, in particular, the Nerpa ship repair plant and Kurganmashzavod. Biochemical cleaning technology is a natural self-cleaning technology implemented in industrial production.

One of the promising and cost-effective areas is the production of devices for blocking ventilation ducts for nuclear power plants. Products were supplied both to the domestic market for completing nuclear power plants under construction - Kola, Beloyarsk, Rostov, and for export to India and Iran.

A new project of IEMZ Kupol JSC is the development and serial production of solid-state wave gyroscopes (SWG). This device and products based on it are designed to solve the problems of building orientation, stabilization, navigation and control systems. TVG radically surpasses previously created gyroscopes, but its creation and production is associated with the solution of a number of complex problems. At the moment, there are only three such production facilities in the world, and one of them is located in Russia - at the Kupol IEMZ. The plant also produces UEDN-5 submersible diaphragm pumps for the oil industry, end-rolling parts for the automotive industry.

On June 20, 1957, the Council of Ministers of the USSR adopted a resolution according to which a plant for the production of radio control equipment for air-to-air missiles was created on the basis of a garment factory under construction in Izhevsk. The plant was assigned No. 444. The date of adoption of this resolution is considered the birthday of the Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant.
Since 1958, serial production of K5I-1 blocks (the head of the semi-active radio guidance of the K5M air-to-air missile) and non-standard measuring instruments for monitoring these blocks has begun. In 1962, the production of radio control units for the missile of the Krug 1SB7 anti-aircraft missile system, calculating devices for the launcher and radar station of the Krug air defense missile system was mastered.
It should be noted that the Krug air defense system was the first complex designed to protect troops and military installations from air attacks in front-line rear areas, which belonged to long-range air defense systems of ground forces and was developed by the NIEMI team under the leadership of chief designer Veniamin Pavlovich Efremov.
In the early seventies, the plant began to develop the Osa anti-aircraft missile system. The specialists of the plant got acquainted with the new "team" of developers, each of which was a personality, a specialist with deep knowledge of his business. Among these people were E.Ya. Pavlov, V.I. Chirkov, H.H. Pokramovich and others. They headed the team of developers I.M. Drize and his deputy A.M. Rozhnov.

Back in the early 60s, it became obvious that it was necessary to have specialized anti-aircraft weapons to combat low-flying targets, which ultimately became one of the main reasons for the deployment in a number of countries of work on the creation of anti-aircraft missile systems capable of effectively combating low-flying air targets. goals. It should be noted that the creation of such air defense systems in all countries occurred with serious difficulties. One of the main reasons was the discrepancy between the overestimated requirements and the existing level of development of science.
Only the Osa anti-aircraft missile system (USSR) became the most successful option among similar systems, which was eloquently confirmed by the experience of its long-term operation in the army and the results of its combat use.
Work on the creation of the complex was started according to the Decree of the Council of Ministers of the USSR No. 1157-487 of October 27, 1960, according to which the complex was supposed to hit targets operating at speeds up to 500 m / s in an area from 50 to 5000 meters in height and 0.8- 10 km in range. The autonomous mobile combat vehicle (BM) of the air defense system should be floating, conduct reconnaissance of air targets in motion and fire missiles at them from a short stop.
The creation of missiles turned out to be the most difficult, which was due at that time to the level of achievements in the creation of domestic solid rocket fuel and the element base for the onboard control system.
Joint tests of the ground-based Osa air defense system began in the second half of 1967 and were discontinued due to serious shortcomings. The director of the NIEMI V.P. was appointed the chief designer of the Wasp. Efremov, his deputy I.M. Drize, and the developer of the floating wheeled chassis 937, which played a big role in the successful continuation of work, was the Bryansk Automobile Plant.
After carrying out factory (July, 1970) and joint (February, 1971) state tests in October 1971, the complex was adopted by the Decree of the Central Committee of the CPSU and the Council of Ministers of the USSR.
After the complex was put into service, work immediately began on modernization in order to expand its affected area and increase combat effectiveness ("Osa-A"), as well as to create a complex with an increased number of missiles to 6, placed on BM in transport and launch containers (" Wasp-K"). Modernization was carried out on its own. The ideas and developments of the specialists of the design bureau of the plant were introduced into the modernized combat vehicle: B.A. Balobanova, M.V. Kasatkina, Yu.S. Fedosimova, V.V. Tsymbalova, Yu.F. Chernov and others. Supervised the development of documentation V.A. Popov, he was assisted in leadership by C.B. Penkin, L.M. Suetin, E.V. Tyulpin, E.F. Mokrushin. In 1973, the development of both options was completed and their joint factory tests were carried out. As a result of these tests, the Osa-AK complex was born, which was put into service in 1975. However, in connection with the improvement of the forms and methods of using SVN, in November 1975, the Mara development work was begun to improve the combat vehicle of the complex and its rocket. In 1977, factory tests of a new combat vehicle took place, in December 1979 the modernized complex passed state tests at the Emba training ground, and in 1980, under the name Osa-AKM, it was put into service. Vladimir Arkadyevich Popov made a significant contribution to the modernization and subsequent introduction of the Osa-AKM complex into mass production, from 1976 to 1982. holding the post of head of the Design Bureau of the Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant.


The development of weapons does not stand still. In the 70s of the XX century, new types of weapons for aviation and troops appeared: cruise missiles and guided aerial bombs, precision weapons. To combat these low-flying supersonic attack weapons, a new, high-speed air defense system was required.
In development of the resolution of the Central Committee of the CPSU and the Council of Ministers of the USSR of February 4, 1975 on the creation of a short-range air defense system for the Ground Forces, an order of the Minister of Radio Industry No. 206 of April 21, 1975 was issued, in which the Moscow Scientific - Research Electromechanical Institute (NIEMI), V.P. Efremov, and the chief designer of the combat vehicle - Iosif Matveevich Drize.
Among other co-executors of work on the creation of the system was the Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant "Kupol", which later became the serial manufacturer of the system. The volume of participation of the plant's specialists in the development and manufacture of the combat vehicle, as well as the financing of the development, was determined by an agreement between NIEMI and IEMZ, agreed with the ordering department.
In order to coordinate all the work on this topic, the OKB IEMZ created in 1976 the thematic department TO-9, head of the Tor system, headed by Eduard Vladimirovich Tyulpin. The equipment of the combat vehicle is being created on a new element base, it uses digital methods of information processing, and the units and blocks are structurally made on multilayer printed circuit boards. To solve these problems, in 1977 a thematic department TO-3 was created, the head of which was C.B. Penkin. In 1979, jobs were created for the manufacture of an antenna-launching device (APU), the assembly of the necessary blocks, a phased antenna array, and the product as a whole. By the end of 1982, prototypes of the Tor combat vehicle were manufactured, and work was completed to prepare for factory testing of technological equipment machines. The products were sent to the Emba training ground for their presentation as part of the Tor system for State tests.
During the tests, the team of developers of NIEMI and IEMZ managed to confirm almost all the conceptual requirements, the technical implementation of which was a know-how. The logical result of the tests was the adoption in March 1986 of the anti-aircraft missile system "Tor" into service. The combat vehicle could be transported by all modes of transport, including air. The serial production of the main elements was carried out by the Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant, the Kirov Machine-Building Plant, and the Minsk Tractor Plant.

In March 1989, a prototype of the modernized combat vehicle was presented for state tests. The sample was made by finalizing the serial sample and was tested in December 1989. After the completion of the main types of tests of the advanced sample and the approval of the design documentation for the Tor-M1 air defense system, it was adopted by the SV air defense in 1991.
Subsequently, additional modernization was carried out to improve the BM air defense system "Tor-M1". For the first time the new machine was presented at the international aerospace show "MAKS-2005". It was distinguished by a zone of destruction of air targets expanded in height, operating at speeds up to 600 m / s at ranges of 8-10 km, and could fire in pursuit of targets flying at speeds up to 420 m / s at altitudes up to 8 km against 6 km in existing options.
Guided by the experience of working with a foreign customer for the sale of an anti-aircraft missile system (TOR-M1 air defense system), in 1996, a tactical and technical assignment (TTZ) was prepared and approved in 1997 for the development of a TOR-M1 air defense system on a wheelbase and in a stationary version.
Experimental design work (R&D) to create options for air defense systems was carried out by decision of the PC Concern "ANTEY" and was intended for export deliveries. In the wheel version, the combat unit included: a hardware cabin on the chassis of the Ural-5323 vehicle, which is a tractor, and an antenna-launching post on the ChMZAP-8335.3 trailer. The technical means of the complex were made in the usual way.
Guided by the terms of reference and the decision, in 1998 the design service of the IEMZ developed design documentation for the manufacture of prototypes. The work was carried out under the guidance of NIEMI specialists. The development and manufacture of the first samples of trailers were carried out by the Chelyabinsk Machine-Building Plant of Automobile Trailers.
In 1998, preparations for the production of a combat unit began, which was assigned the index 9A331T.
On the first sample, a new layout of the equipment and the design of the APP trailer were worked out. The second sample was made in 1999 and submitted for preliminary testing. In the process of testing, a new data exchange system was worked out between the control room and the antenna-launching post, and the design of the cable device was improved.
After the completion of the factory stage of preliminary tests, the product was transported to the training ground of the Ministry of Defense. Transportation was carried out on its own and was combined with carrying out transport tests. After the field stage of preliminary tests, the product was returned to the factory for modifications based on the comments identified as a result of the tests, and transferred to state (acceptance) tests. In the process of field tests, launches of combat missiles were carried out at real targets. The test results confirmed the tactical and technical characteristics of the product, were drawn up by an act and approved by a decision of January 2004. The working design documentation was checked by the interdepartmental commission (MVK) and recommended for mass production. IEMZ "Kupol" is defined as the holder of the documentation. It should be noted that the work on the creation of the 9K331T product (development of design and operational documentation, production of prototypes and preliminary tests) was financed at the expense of IEMZ "Kupol" own funds.

In 2011, "Kupol" mastered the serial production of short-range air defense systems "Tor-M2E" and its modifications "Tor-M2K" and "Tor-M2KM". The complexes on a caterpillar chassis are supplied according to the state defense order.
By order of the General Director dated June 21, 2012 No. 434p, the procedure and terms for the development of design documentation and the manufacture of a prototype ABM 9AZZ1MK-1 and technical means of the Tor-M2KM air defense system were determined. A new deputy chief designer of the Tor-M2KM air defense system, head of KB-82 Gorbunov M.V., was appointed. In pursuance of the order, a new working group was created, consisting of young designers from the OKB IEMZ Kupol OJSC and their mentor, V.I.
The selfless work and the great desire of the young working group to justify the trust of the chief designer of the complex, as well as the support of the General Director of JSC IEMZ Kupol Vasilyev Sergey Semenovich and his deputy Ziyatdinov Fanil Gazisovich made it possible to develop drawings of ABM 9A331MK-1 and manufacture its prototype within one year .
The Tor-M2KM air defense system with combat and technical means in a modular design is the latest development of the Almaz-Antey Air Defense Concern and the Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant Kupol.
