Naples is a community of independent travelers. About Naples in winter days - Amalfi Coast

For me, the real Italy is Naples. Northern Italy is too European, well-groomed, touristy, picturesque. The real Italy from children's associations, from my own ideas about this country, is, of course, Naples. Naples is alive, natural, humane. Neapolitans speak three times faster than northern Italians, constantly gesticulating, and this dialect is everywhere. My wife and I were in Naples for quite a long time and in the end, having heard enough of these endless conversations, unfortunately not knowing Italian, we began to speak Russian to each other in the Italian manner - comically distorting words, adding endings to them, which once amused the cashier in store, Ukrainian "How long have you been here?" - she asked, barely holding back her laughter. "Well, you are Italians." There are a lot of Ukrainians there, and especially Ukrainian women.

In Naples there is a very intense pace of life - everyone is trying to get somewhere, if they are not actively chatting, rushing around on motor scooters, small cars, as a rule, not following any rules. Naples has incredibly narrow streets. I don’t know if these gaps between houses can be called streets? An ordinary Kronstadt street is like the widest Neapolitan avenue.
There is a lot of garbage in Naples, the city is often unkempt, with houses that have not been painted for a long time, among which very often there are masterpieces of architecture - some temple of the 14th century, here such a one would have been protected by UNESCO long ago, but there it stands neglected as if nothing had happened.

In Naples there is ancient Roman and even ancient Greek evidence of the popularity of this place in previous eras - people settled here long ago. And you can understand them - an amazing climate, gentle sun, it's warm here even in winter. Naples has the most delicious pizza. They dress very stylishly here...men, women dress more simply. In Naples they still make good clothes and sell them very inexpensively in local stores. At every step you come across craft workshops that may have existed for centuries. Craftsmen make furniture, restore something, sharpen it, assemble it, repair it, sew it...

About football... I watched how the boys - among shop windows, windows and tables of street cafes, among tourists and passers-by played football - not a single left kick, not a single broken window or an injured tourist - everything was done in passing, technically, beautifully, they simply reveled in their play, and no one made any comments to them. Maybe that's why Italians play well? However, I'm not an expert.

Naples - sea town: warm sea, fishermen, port, ships. From here you can get to Capri, the island is very close, or go to Sardinia or Sicily. Vesuvius is located near the city - we climbed it, a rather gloomy mountain of black volcanic rocks. There are many famous towns nearby. Not far from Naples sad famous city Pompeii. My sister, who often visits Italy, has never been to Naples.
“You haven’t seen the real Italy,” I tell her

My dear readers!

The spring holiday is coming, your holiday! But winter does not give up, and for now one can only dream of warmth. Unfortunately, I cannot pay for all women who want a trip to warm countries, but Victoria and I want and can give you, dear women, romantic virtual trip in Naples. So I'll give her the floor.

Dear girls! Since “romance” means it’s for you and me)). But can Naples even claim to be a romantic city? Especially in winter... Paris, Venice, Verona... Sometimes Prague are usually called romantic. But Naples... Well, as Seryozha says, let’s figure it out together).

Most people with any interest in travel unfortunately imagine Naples as dirty. southern city with a bunch of thieves and other dysfunctional paraphernalia. Well, there is no smoke without fire, and apparently this was once the case. But time is running, And Big City(Naples ranks 3rd in Italy in terms of population after Rome and Milan and is just shy of one million) in one of the most beautiful countries in the world it simply cannot remain like this!

Wide central streets, solid houses.

The historical quarters are similar to the Roman ones, only without fountains. And, you know, no homeless people! Maybe because it was winter and they hid). Well, how is winter... During the day the air temperature is +12 - +14, if the sun is shining, wonderful! If there is no light, and even the wind, it’s worse)). In general, given the fact that you will have to spend a lot of time outside, you need to dress in good quality autumn clothes. In December the sea is still warm (+17 degrees), and the most cozy place, perhaps, on the embankment. There really weren’t any people who wanted to swim :)

But let's get back to romance! We are not just having a walk around Naples, but a romantic walk. So, the embankment is probably the most romantic place in the city. At least in winter). It’s warm, sunny, boats are rocking rhythmically on the water, lovers are taking selfies, Vesuvius is visible in the distance...

On a weekday the embankment is deserted. And on weekends, crowds of locals go for a walk. Companies of youth, couples and families. Moreover, families with fairly old children! You won’t see anything like this here, it’s so touching... Some sit in cafes, but most are just walking.

I won’t hide that Italians walking along the embankment (precisely! There are no tourists in Naples in winter) are my most vivid impression of Naples. We have already seen many beautiful buildings, churches, fountains and monuments, but to see a piece of the life of local residents, to mingle with them is completely different...

A line of hotels stretches along the central part of the embankment. If you travel even further, you will reach the very nice and, as they say, prestigious area of Chiaia.

And there is also a harbor with yachts... In winter, everything is laid up, quiet and sleepy...

As in , all the most crowded places in Naples are blocked off military equipment and are patrolled. Not very romantic of course, although... depending on how you look at it. You are walking with your significant other, and you are guarded by specially trained people armed to the teeth))...

But let's still leave the embankment and go deeper into the city. The administrative center is Plebiscito Square. And on it is the Basilica of San Francesco di Paole, reminiscent of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican,

and Royal Palace:

But life is not in full swing here. The main shopping street of Naples is Via Toledo. This is where it's fun!

Unlike Rome, where the main shopping street is a standard selection of the most widespread world brands, in Naples there are a lot of shops of “local manufacturers”. And since, by coincidence, these manufacturers are Italian, there is something to see. And what romantic shop windows there are! Moreover, there are no less men’s stores than women’s stores, I assure you.

From Toledo Street we take the funicular up to Vomero Hill.

A cozy residential area with many modern houses.

But we climbed here for the magnificent view of Naples. The historical center is in full view, our beloved Vesuvius is in the distance...

We go down on foot along the stairs, which is also of historical value and is called Pedamentina San Martina.

With each turn the view changes a little. Beautiful...

But I have to tell you, in spring it would be much more romantic here than in winter. This staircase is really blown out! 🙁

And we go straight down to the most famous street in Naples - Spaccanapoli. They say it is more than two thousand years old, and all this time it has divided the city in half. It is very narrow, there is no transport here, but it is as smooth as an arrow. This is the most tourist street - souvenir stalls, crowds of people. And don’t come here on weekends, because the locals love to wander around it too!

Of course, it no longer divides the city in half, but it separates respectable neighborhoods from old, shabby streets with an indescribable southern Italian flavor). It's probably because of this area that Naples has such a... specific reputation. You can only get through on a scooter, there is garbage, laundry drying on lines... This can be called a slum, or a place where a real spirit of antiquity reigns. Not the antiquity that froze in the marble of dilapidated columns and foundations, but living, lived-in, real...

I’ll show you another romantic Naples market, located in the same area, and we’ll wrap it up.

As you understand, there is a lot, a lot more in Naples - fortresses, cathedrals, palaces, museums... And also the ubiquitous graffiti and ugly buildings of the 70s of the last century, spoiling the whole picture... But today we have a festive romantic walk, so in We don’t go deep into history, and we don’t look at the ugly :)

I hope you enjoyed your stay in Nepol in winter. And what can we say about spring! Go, you won't regret it!

Victoria was with you, your virtual guide and tour guide, and somewhere around the corner of a Naples street, Sergei Evdokimenko was hiding.

In the shadow of the majestic Vesuvius, in the cradle of the Gulf of Naples, the southern region of Italy, Campania, with its administrative capital, Naples, nestles. All year round tourists visit the city to see a completely different Italy - without frills and embellishment, where in the labyrinths of narrow streets, clothes are easily dried on clotheslines stretched from house to house, and from the windows you can hear the loud talk of locals, accustomed to living with emotions and passions. Before heading to this epicenter of the Italian adventure, Tour-Calendar offers to find out why it is better to go to Naples from mid-spring to early summer, as well as in early autumn.

True, largely thanks to this volcano, the climate in Naples is much milder than in some other regions of Italy, the soil is more fertile, and there are more and more tourists. An umbrella is also necessary: the weather in Naples in April, especially at the beginning of the month, can change several times a day.

The sun shines in Naples almost the entire month of May, and some daredevils are already trying to swim, leaving the city on or on, or testing the water on one of local beaches, if its temperature is not lower than 18-20°C. Weather in July

The weather in Naples in July may seem too hot due to high humidity. Winds blowing from the south only worsen the situation, and during the day at the height of summer the city begins to resemble a large hot stove.

Due to high humidity the weather in July is quite hot

July is not for long walks the best choice: During the day the thermometer can reach 35°C. If you go on excursions, do it in the morning, when the weather is still quite bearable for those who are not used to the hot Italian sun.

The water temperature is from 25°C, and by the end of the month it becomes higher by another 1-2°C, but it is also better to go to the beach early: in the morning or late afternoon. At night, when the temperature is not lower than 22°C, it is worth... visiting Vesuvius: since 2013, the ban on visiting the volcano at night has been lifted. The trip is organized under the auspices of the city authorities. The main thing is to arm yourself with a flashlight, wear light-colored clothes and take sports shoes with you.

Weather in August

It's hot all August in Naples. But, despite the heat, the high season is also in full swing: you should book a hotel room for this month in the spring. Daytime temperatures can exceed +35+37°C. At night, of course, it is cooler, but not much – about +25°C.

Weather in October

In recent years, October in the capital of Campania is also the month of floods, which can ruin holidays during velvet season. And even if the weather is clear in October, the sea can be rough.

At the same time, the temperature begins to decrease only somewhere in the middle of the month: from +28°C to +20+22°C during the day, from +22°C to +16+18°C at night. Weather in November

The holiday planned in Naples for November is a contemplative holiday, one of best periods for visiting museums and walking around the city. The weather is mostly clear, although it can rain heavily at least once or twice a week.

In mid-November in Naples the wind begins to pick up

In the middle of the month the wind begins to increase, so even the most desperate daredevils, seduced by the relatively warm sea(22°C at the beginning of the month), they refuse water treatments. The temperature in Naples in November during the day is between +18+22°C, at night – not lower than +15°C.

We managed to snag cheap tickets to Rome for 10,000 rubles per person round trip with an overnight stay in Athens, Greece. From Rome we took a 2-hour train from Rome to Naples, which cost us 11 euros per person one way.
Naples greeted us with rainy weather. In general, winter in Italy is mild and warm, and you shouldn’t be afraid of rains - they are not as long and heavy as in Asia during the rainy season! The weather is mostly cloudy, but the rain is variable, and if the sun comes out, it starts to get hot like summer. So, in Naples it was an average of 15 degrees - the same weather ideal for long walks.

During such walks, we noticed that in some areas Naples has similarities with India - in crowds of people, garbage, smells, noise, variety of transport. This also applies to the Central Station (Stazione Napoli Centrale), and the adjacent neighborhoods, where mainly migrants live, and the Porta Nolana food market (Mercato di Porta Nolana), open daily from 8:00 to 18:00.

Fish, fruits, vegetables, fried mussels, small change, accessories for 1 euro - the market has everything and at inexpensive prices. You can walk back and forth around the market for hours, choose, look at, buy and take photographs. There are fewer tourists, more haggling locals and more authentic Italian flavor. There are loud conversations and noisy arguments here. In general, southern Italians are more aggressive in behavior than northern ones.

You can find delicious fish restaurants in the market. So, we went to a family place where we planned to have a quick snack, but a charming waiter who spoke very good Russian served us a whole festive table: large fish dish for two (squid, fish, octopus) for 25 euros, 1.5 l homemade wine for 5 euros, seafood pasta for 4 euros, several appetizers and dessert. In total we left 75 euros. We have never eaten such delicious and satisfying seafood in Italy. If you want a more economical lunch option, you can always grab a slice of Neapolitan pizza. 9 euros - and you are full and happy all day.

While walking, you notice that people in Naples dress with taste and are not afraid to experiment in style, which is facilitated by the numerous shops and their prices. So, in the country there are a lot of men's clothing stores with different sizes, fabrics, textures, which is so lacking in Russia. In January, seasonal sales are held in all cities in Italy. The discounts are decent: 30-70% of the original price. So, you can buy demi-season jackets for 15 euros, jeans for 10 euros, textiles for 5 euros. Shoes were sold for 40-50 euros. All items are declared as made in Italy. They look high quality. In general, Naples has particularly inexpensive prices for clothing compared to Rome, Milan or Florence.

While walking, we also discovered a large ball as a decoration for the city for Christmas. Don't you find any similarities with anything in Moscow?

If you suddenly get tired of Naples, you can take a commuter train and get to the nearby historical cities of Herculaneum and Pompeii. So, it’s better to set aside a separate day in Pompeii to get around everything calmly.
