New means for self-defense. Self-defense means that do not require permission

Permit-free self-defense weapons are a topic that concerns many people. The level of crime these days forces every person to think about their own safety and the safety of their property. It is not always possible to call for help in an emergency or call the police. Sometimes you have to rely only on your own strength. Then it will be very useful if you have something with you that you can use for your own protection. It is now possible to purchase self-defense weapons without a license. In this article we want to introduce the reader to its types, talk about the advantages and discuss the disadvantages.

Self-defense weapons that do not require permission in Russia

In order to avoid problems with the law, you need to clearly understand how you can protect yourself. There are protective equipment that requires a license, and those that can be worn freely. In this case, you do not need to have special documents. In each country, the government decides whether it is possible to purchase a particular self-defense weapon without a license. We will talk today about laws relating to territory Russian Federation. Despite the fact that the crime rate in the Russian Federation is not the highest in the world, Russians, like many other inhabitants of the planet, still need to be prepared to protect themselves from attack at any time. So, self-defense weapons that do not require permission:

  • an air pistol, a revolver with a power of no more than 7.5 J and a bullet with a caliber not exceeding 4.5 millimeters;
  • electric shocker, as well as a spark gun from a Russian manufacturer;
  • gas can.

This is something that directly concerns weapons. Of course, there are additional options for protection using improvised means, which include edged weapons, but we’ll talk about this below.

Gas cartridges

When discussing a topic such as types of self-defense weapons without a permit, the first thing that comes to everyone’s mind is a spray can. They come in different types:

  1. Gas.
  2. Pepper.
  3. Nervous.

Experts believe that best weapon self-defense, which does not require permission - this is a gas spray. It is quite popular, especially among women: it weighs little, takes up little space, and is quite easy to use. There is some information that you need to know for correct use. When purchasing a can, the only thing you need is proof that you have reached the age of majority. The following can be said about the advantages of such weapons:

  • use on the principle of a simple liquid spray;
  • low cost (around five dollars);
  • ease of use in psychological terms: not every person can even shoot an attacker in the leg, but spraying liquid is much easier;
  • compactness: small size and light weight make it possible to constantly carry the can with you, even in a small handbag.

But there are also disadvantages that you need to know and remember. Firstly, such a remedy does not have a strong intimidating effect. The attacker may not only not run away, but, on the contrary, speed up his movements in order to prevent the victim from using the spray. Therefore, after removing the cylinder, use it immediately. Secondly, under no circumstances use this product in an enclosed space (elevator, corridor, stairs, etc.). In this case, you may suffer along with the bandit and gain nothing from the use. Thirdly, you need to correctly aim the jet from the cylinder, taking into account the direction of the wind. Improper use of such a remedy can harm, first of all, you.

Stun guns

Another self-defense weapon that does not require a permit is a stun gun. It is a miniature device with two wires, which, when the corresponding button is pressed, produce an electrical discharge. The power of the discharge is such that it unbalances an adult. Shockers of different manufacturers and models are offered. There are options that allow you to adjust the power. The following advantages of such weapons are noted:

  • the ability to deprive the attacker of the ability to move for a short period of time, so the victim can escape;
  • the ability to hit a target from a distance of about four meters (for models that are capable of shooting with electrodes).

But the shocker also has disadvantages that need to be carefully studied before buying such a means of protection:

  • Basically, the models require direct contact with the bandit, but the opportunity may not present itself;
  • the device runs on batteries, which need to be monitored: changed or charged - otherwise you may find yourself in danger trying to use a non-working stun gun, completely angering the attacker;
  • in winter, when people are warmly dressed, the shocker cannot always penetrate a thick layer of fabric, and the charge will not have the expected effect.

Pneumatics

Weapons of this type are designed more for psychological impact. Outwardly, it is very similar to a firearm, so the attacker will not take risks.
Power air gun It is not strong enough to cause serious harm to health, and therefore does not require permission. In addition, it can be used in hand-to-hand combat to enhance the blow. The main thing is surprise and determination. You cannot detect uncertainty or fear in front of a bandit. And also, carry the gun in a place where it will be easy and quick to get. After all, no one will calmly wait until you open your purse and, after rummaging for a long time in a pile of things, pull out a gun.

Self-defense weapon that does not require a permit: "Strike"

The "Strike" device is used to shoot at the enemy using a liquid solution.
It's a kind of mixture gas canister and a pistol. It is charged by capsules filled with liquid. You can use this product for a long time: on average, it is designed for 2 thousand shots. The advantage of “Impact” is:

  • ability to work independently weather conditions with a firing range of up to five meters;
  • the ability to use in a confined space, since the liquid is sprayed in a directed manner, and the risk of harming yourself is minimal;
  • small size, which allows you to carry it with you in your bag or pocket.

We cannot ignore the disadvantages of such a tool:

  • in order to hit the bandit, you need to aim well;
  • the device is not intended for left-handed use;
  • When purchasing low-quality capsules, there is a chance of misfire, capsules falling out or liquid leaking.

Self-defense weapon that does not require a permit: "Wasp"

The Osa pistol is another means of defense against bandits using a combination of sound and light. It is capable of stunning and blinding a criminal, temporarily throwing him off balance.
Until recently, such weapons could be used with permission. But now there is a new light and sound device “Antidog”. You do not need any permission to use this device, and its operating principle is the same as that of the Wasp. The following advantages of the device can be mentioned:

  • capable of scaring off not one, but several attackers;
  • lightweight, compact and easy to use;
  • low cost of the device.

The only drawback of the pistol is that it can blind and stun the shooter; accordingly, this must be taken into account before use and the eyes must be closed at the time of the shot.

Steel arms

Such weapons are used even more often than other types. After all, it is always at hand, especially at home.
When purchasing a knife, the documentation immediately indicates whether it is a bladed weapon or not. In Russia, prohibited types include those with a blade longer than 90 centimeters, as well as knives with automatic blade ejection. In addition to the knife, they use such types of tools as stiletto, brass knuckles, machete, etc. It should be remembered that using a knife is even more difficult than shooting. Therefore, not every person is able to perceive it as a reliable means of protection. It is suitable for people with some martial arts knowledge.

It is important to know

Of course, it is best to avoid situations where you will be in danger and forced to defend yourself. But sometimes they are inevitable and do not depend on your desire. In this case, remember a few tips:

  1. Try to have not one, but two weapon options with you. Some of them will definitely be able to defend themselves.
  2. Pass short course self-defense, where you will be taught the basic rules of defense. This will increase the chances of success.
  3. If you find yourself in a dangerous situation, do not panic, be decisive and do not show your fear.
  4. Focus on psychological factor. You need to scare the enemy with the mere presence of a weapon before using it.
  5. If you decide to shoot, aim correctly. After an unsuccessful shot, you risk ending up in greater danger than before.
  6. Check the condition of your weapon regularly to avoid ending up with a useless piece of metal in your hand.

According to the latest edition of Article 13 of the Federal Law “On Weapons”, every citizen of the Russian Federation who has reached the age of 18 has the right to buy the following weapons without permission and a license.
-Any mechanical spray or aerosol device containing tear gas.
— Electroshock device.
Airguns with a muzzle energy of no more than 7.5 J and a caliber up to 4.5 mm inclusive.
Signal revolver or a pistol with a caliber of no more than 6 mm

Gas weapon

A gas spray is the simplest and most easily accessible self-defense weapon that does not require a permit. This is a container with a caustic irritant (irritant). Five types of such substances are allowed on the territory of the Russian Federation, not counting their mixtures. Their main task is to briefly deprive a person of the ability to act actively. Irritants can cause excessive tears, pain in the eyes, temporary loss of vision, nosebleeds, and severe skin irritation.
Often the cans are equipped with a safety lock, which eliminates the possibility of accidental pressing and reduces the risk for the owner.
There are three types of gas weapons:
Aerosol.
Jet.
Gel.
!!!If you are left-handed, then you will not be able to use the “Udar” device, popular in Russia, which combines a gel can and a pistol.

Electroshock devices

This is a compact and safe means of protection. It will not harm the owner, but the aggressor will suffer significantly. It is better to use a weapon with fewer volts, but with more current. Such a device can disable a person for half an hour. If you buy a “weak” stun gun, then be prepared for the fact that an attacker in winter clothes will not react to an attempt at self-defense. In this case, you need to try to find a vulnerable, unprotected place, for example, the neck.
The downside of this weapon is the mandatory close contact with the attacker.
!!! You can use a stun gun to scare away dogs. Animals are afraid of the high-frequency crackling sound that the device produces.

What is "Pioneer"

Another self-defense weapon that does not require a permit. Combines a signal pistol, a rocket launcher and a gas weapon.
This is the best weapon for self-defense without a permit, provided you learn how to use it.
Pros:
Compact and lightweight.
Easy to reload, the handle has a replaceable clip.
Shoots at five meters.
There is an aiming front sight and a bar.
Several types of charges can be used.
Minuses:
Expensive.
It's hard to press the shutter button.
There is no laser target pointer.

Gas pistols

A rather controversial self-defense weapon. The principle of operation of a gas pistol is comparable to the action of a gas spray. However, the can is much cheaper and easier to maintain. The only advantage of a gas pistol is that it can be used to exert psychological pressure on a criminal, because the gun looks like a combat one. However, whether this is an advantage is not clear. Seeing a gun, a criminal may take rash actions, including in your direction. Therefore, the usefulness of a gas pistol is questionable.

Traumatic pistols

Traumatic weapons are pistols and revolvers for firing both rubber bullets and gas. Unlike gas pistols, traumatic pistols cause mechanical damage with bullets.

Weapon selection and restrictions

Single-shot weapons of any system and design are absolutely not suitable for self-defense needs. According to the Weapons Law, the first shot of the defending party must be fired into the air.
After choosing a weapon, check with the store for a license and permission to sell it.
If the sale of weapons for self-defense is carried out in stores without permission and a license, there is a possibility that at a critical moment the purchase will not work at all or will work against you. Such weapons cannot guarantee your safety.
Deliberate actions that clearly do not correspond to the nature and degree of public danger of the encroachment are recognized as exceeding the limits of necessary defense.
In addition to all items permitted by law, a person can also use the available means. For example, if the attacker is twice the size and is also armed with an axe, it is quite possible to use a brick or stone found nearby to repel the attack. True, this does not mean at all that you can carry any homemade devices with you, such as brass knuckles or metal nuts on a rope.
Article 6. Restrictions established on the circulation of civilian and service weapons
The following are prohibited on the territory of the Russian Federation:
sale and purchase of flails, brass knuckles, shurikens, boomerangs and other items of impact, crushing and throwing action specially adapted for use as weapons, with the exception of sports equipment;
cold bladed weapons and knives, the blades and blades of which are either automatically removed from the handle when a button or lever is pressed and fixed by them, or extended due to gravity or accelerated movement and automatically fixed, with a blade and blade length of more than 90 mm;
firearms without a barrel for self-defense, electroshock devices and spark gaps having output parameters exceeding the values established state standards of the Russian Federation and complying with the standards of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation
And one more thing: all self-defense weapons must have a quality certificate. Of course, to what extent this rule will be observed in life is another question, but in any case, you need to know that if, during any checks, law enforcement agencies discover, say, an uncertified stun gun, then they have every right to confiscate it.
Please forgive the slight confusion, I wanted to briefly talk about everything, it will be interesting to describe injuries and gas pistols in detail.
Take care of yourself and your loved ones!

The right to self-defense is one of the key human rights. Everyone can and should protect themselves from illegal actions by third parties: this is true for a guy, a girl, a motorist, a schoolchild, and anyone else. But, as you already know from the first lesson, the range of issues relating to taking necessary defense measures is very problematic from a legal position. AND the most important aspect here is the right to use means of self-defense, as well as their legality. We will examine these problems in the third lesson.

Choosing self-defense means

It has already become clear that the degree of response to a threat must be commensurate with its seriousness. For example, if you shoot a pistol or poke a knife at an unarmed person attacking you, legally (and morally in most cases) you will be guilty, because exceed the limits of necessary defense. Accordingly, the choice of means of self-defense is determined by the level of threat. But in any case, a person has every right to have a means of self-defense; the main thing is that it be legal.

Items used for situational self-defense

This category includes almost all objects (bottles, axes, shovels, crowbars, etc.) that, in theory, can cause harm to human health. You do not need to obtain any permission to use such tools. The main problem here is considered to be the indiscriminate nature of their impact, because a blow with a crowbar or the butt of an ax can lead to the death of a person, and this in turn will be recognized in most cases as exceeding the limits of self-defense and will entail criminal punishment.

Special means of self-defense, the acquisition and use of which do not require permits

The advantage of such funds is the optimal combination impact force, which will definitely stop the enemy, and non-lethal effects. This category includes stun guns, gas cartridges, aerosol and pneumatic pistols and others. It is practically impossible to kill or cause serious injury with any of these means, except when people shoot in the eyes or temples, use them at close range, or are overzealous in knocking out the enemy as best they can. It is these means of self-defense that are considered the most optimal when we're talking about on physical and legally flawless protection.

Firearms and bladed weapons

These are means, the use of which with a high degree of probability can lead to death, which is almost always an excess of the limits of necessary defense. The possession of such means not only requires special permission, but they can only be used in two cases: if there is a real threat to a person’s life and if this threat cannot be eliminated by any other means.

It is important to say here that if thieves break into your house, you, taking precautions and warning them about your possible actions, can use firearms or bladed weapons. But it must be borne in mind that judicial practice shows that even in such situations the defender can be brought to criminal liability if it is impossible to prove the unlawful actions of the attackers after the fact.

And one more nuance: even if the use of the weapon in question by the defender was justified, but he did not have the official right to keep and use it, he will be held accountable.

IMPORTANT ADDENDUM: There is another category of weapons - weapons that are prohibited and do not belong to the field of self-defense. This includes a variety of homemade fins, brass knuckles and pistols, flamberge swords, weapons with automatic fire mode (machine guns, submachine guns), expansive bullets, napalm, anti-personnel mines, cluster munitions, biological, climatic, laser, chemical and nuclear weapons, etc. .d. and so on. Naturally, we will not consider these types of weapons in this lesson.

Based on the above, the safest means of self-defense are those that do not involve lethal effects. With their help, it is easy to stop a criminal without worrying about the legality of your actions. Therefore, they should be considered in more detail.

Types of self-defense means

Gas pistols

One of the most common means of self-defense. Its advantages include its impressive appearance (resembles a real “barrel”), noticeable weight and the fact that you can simply hit it properly, i.e. "knock out" a person without even shooting him.

But this type of weapon also has disadvantages. Firstly, this is its price - a high-quality gas pistol is not cheap. Secondly, to purchase you need to obtain permission from the police, and this procedure is slow and rather red-tape, plus it also costs money (note that buying a gas pistol without a permit entails administrative liability, which means confiscation of the self-defense device and a fine). And thirdly, the firing range of a standard gas pistol is from 3 to 5 meters, and if suddenly a strong wind blows between you and the attacker, the weapon will not have the expected effect (it may even have the opposite effect).

In addition, the gas “barrel” cannot be used in a confined space, for example, on a landing, in an elevator or inside a car - the gas will fall not only on the offender, but also on the one who uses the weapon. And another potential danger is that the criminal may mistake the pistol for a combat one: if the villain turns out to be an ordinary gopnik, he will simply run away, and if he is a seasoned repeat offender, and even armed, the sight of the pistol may provoke him to use a knife or your pistol, although not a gas pistol.

Traumatic pistols

In our country, traumatic pistols are allowed to be used only with rubber bullets and, again, only with permission. It is more difficult to obtain such weapons than the previous ones: for the most part, they are allowed to be carried by police, court and prosecutors, lawyers conducting serious trials, and less often by journalists, employees of audit and tax services, fisheries supervision and other organizations.

You can purchase “trauma” from people who specialize in the illegal sale of such products, but this is fraught with fines and administrative liability. If the “barrel” is converted into a combat weapon, criminal liability is provided for this. In short, a traumatic pistol is, of course, good, because... extremely effective, knocks the enemy down and can be used in any conditions, but becoming its owner is very difficult.

Pneumatic guns

“Pneumatic guns” are available for sale in any store selling equipment, fishing and military equipment and ammunition, self-defense equipment, etc. Anyone can buy such a pistol. The only condition is a restriction on the caliber of the bullet and its flight speed: the caliber must be no more than 4.5 mm, and the speed of the bullet must not exceed 100 m/sec (if these conditions are violated, the owner bears administrative responsibility, which means the weapon will be confiscated and fine).

The advantage of such a pistol is that from afar or in the dark it can be mistaken for a combat pistol (but sometimes this is also a disadvantage, as in the case of a gas pistol). However, this is where its advantages end, because... it is ineffective. It will not cause serious damage to the enemy (unless you shoot at the eyes, temples and other particularly sensitive places, for which they can be prosecuted). The bullet (a small steel ball) is not capable of penetrating thick clothing or even thick skin. It is easy to protect yourself from a shot by simply stretching your arms out in front of you.

If the attacker is an amateur or a youngster, the sight of an air pistol may frighten him, but if you are dealing with a serious criminal, the best thing you can do with this weapon is to hit it with the handle, throw it in the face and run away. So decide for yourself whether this item is worth purchasing. However, it can serve as a good toy - it’s fun to shoot at tins, one and a half tins and glass bottles.

Traumatic weapon

Not only pistols, but also other objects can be traumatic. One of the most popular devices is the Osa complex. It consists of a barrelless pistol and special cartridges that have a traumatic, light-sound, lighting or signaling effect.

The force with which the “Wasp” shoots, for example, a rubber bullet, is 120 J, but after 10 meters it decreases to 70 J. However, this is more than enough for the villain to “get lost” for some time. If you shoot from close range, a person can be crippled, so you need to use the “Wasp” very carefully.

Such weapons are compact, which allows you to carry them in a belt or even a handbag or pocket. It is useful to have one, but again you need to get permission. In addition, you will have to pay a lot of money for the purchase. If all this is solvable for you, then “Wasp” could be an excellent choice.

Aerosol guns

Aerosol guns- this is a kind of intermediate link between gas pistols and spray cans. A good example can serve as an “UDAR” (metered aerosol spray device), into which a BAM (small-sized aerosol can) is inserted. The pistol's magazine can hold up to five BAMs containing a pepper mixture, and the impact distance can be up to 4 meters.

Due to its composition, the jet, when it hits the enemy’s face, instantly incapacitates him for a period of 10 to 30 minutes, causing severe irritation of the mucous membranes and severe pain. The weapon is effective both in open space and in enclosed spaces, because the stream is not sprayed, but directed concentrated.

The advantages of an aerosol gun include the low cost of the gun itself and the cans, as well as the fact that it does not require special permission and it is impossible to kill a person with it. In general, it’s a good and effective thing that can help with difficult situation.

Gas cartridges

Initially - when gas cartridges first appeared - they gained great popularity and were in great demand. However, over time, for some reason, manufacturers reduced the concentration of harmful substances, and today, to be completely honest, this means of self-defense has become an almost useless thing, instilling in its owners the illusion of safety.

Spray cans are effective at a distance of no more than 1.5 meters. The wind easily redirects the gas flow in any direction. When used rarely, the destructive substance in the cylinder cakes, which is why the cylinder must be shaken before use, and the criminal will certainly not wait for you to do this.

Most cans can be used continuously for a maximum of 10 seconds. This weapon should not be used indoors or in confined spaces. In addition, if the villain is drunk or “stubborn,” he may not feel the effects of the substance at all. In other words, this means of self-defense is ineffective, but it costs mere pennies.

In principle, you can purchase a gas canister, knowing in advance about its shortcomings. But when purchasing, you should explore several options, consult with a consultant, look at certificates, etc. You also need to be sure that the mixture contained in the cylinder will not deprive a person of his vision, otherwise you can get seriously “hit” - that’s how our state is: they attacked a person and wanted to cripple him, but he fought back, but turned out to be guilty and went to prison, but the criminal also went to court and won the case - the height of logic and the limit of concern for respectable citizens!

Stun guns

Stun guns, contrary to popular belief, can be freely purchased and used for self-defense by citizens of the Russian Federation who have reached the age of majority. Those. There is no need to obtain any certificates or permits to purchase such a device.

“Shockers,” as the name suggests, hit the villain with a solid electric shock. With quick contact they have a knockback effect, and with longer contact they disorient and deprive the attacker of any ability to perform conscious actions.

Despite the effectiveness of stun guns, they have several significant disadvantages: they may not work through clothing, especially in winter, when people are wearing sweaters and warm jackets, which means you need to manage to get to an open place on the enemy’s body. And the “shockers” operate on batteries, which do not always remain operational, especially in cold, hot weather and during long periods of inactivity. So, trying to shock the villain, you can get a more powerful blow to the jaw.

However, people are not afraid of the shortcomings of the presented means of self-defense, and therefore the demand for them is great. Today you can find a variety of stun guns: from classic options to disguised as pens, phones, lighters, flashlights, etc. They are inexpensive, and, by and large, acquiring such an item for your protection is quite good.

Knives

Knives are the most widespread and cheapest type of weapon, the most accessible and dangerous. But using a knife is a delicate matter, and before buying it for self-defense, you need to think a hundred times about how you will use it, and whether you will do it at all. Remember that an attempt on the life of a person, even a criminal, is a criminal offense. And using a knife involves maximum risk to life, including your own.

In addition, the law prohibits the use of knives against people and even carrying them with you. Of course, we are not talking about penknives, but about hunting, combat and other types of knives. Not every knife can be classified as a bladed weapon.

Be that as it may, many people have pocket, pen or butt knives with them: if something happens, you can cut food, cut off a piece of fabric, unscrew a bolt, and, of course, stand up for yourself. True, when making a threat, you should understand that the knife can be taken away and used against you, and if you injure or kill a person, from a victim you will instantly become a criminal who will be convicted to the fullest extent of the law.

Let's summarize: the advantages of knives lie in their effectiveness and ability to incapacitate an enemy, relative cheapness and legality. The disadvantages are the risk of causing serious harm and incurring criminal liability. Yes, and you need to be able to wield a knife, otherwise you can do such things that you will have to regret and repent for the rest of your life. Speaking in simple words: Let the knife be for cutting sausages, but for self-defense it is better not to use this type of weapon.

Brass knuckles

Brass knuckles, like other objects of crushing, impact and throwing effects, are prohibited by law, but due to their popularity we will still say a few words about them. This thing is quite curious, but very, very dangerous. If you suddenly have brass knuckles purchased or made yourself, it (like a knife) should be the last thing you think of turning to in a fight or other extreme situation.

Using brass knuckles, you can not only crush your opponent’s face into smithereens, but also kill him. And here no lawyers will help. Of course, if the situation is such that either you or the villain, and there is no other way, brass knuckles will help you defeat the scoundrel and defend yourself, but you need to be prepared that you will have to answer for your actions.

Plastic undercastet

Plastic under-knuckles are also called stingers, skull-knuckles, dog-knuckles, cat-knuckles, etc. depending on the type. These devices are completely legal and in everyday life they serve as key rings. If an extreme situation arises, fingers are sent to the keychain’s “eyes”, which is why it turns into a good weapon.

A significant advantage of the under-knuckle is that it cannot cause serious injury, but thanks to its “ears” it strengthens the punch. Considering that such items are made of plastic, they will not be detected by metal detectors, which means they can be carried with you almost everywhere.

Any such keychains are inexpensive, fit in your pocket and do not require any permits. They can be attached to keys or a belt. But there is no point in talking about great efficiency here, because... after all, this is not a professional means of self-defense, but for the most part an accessory from the “just in case” category.

Kubotan

Kubotan is a means of self-defense created in Japan, but adopted by police officers in many countries around the world. In appearance, the kubotan resembles a harmless keychain, but in skillful hands it turns into a most effective poking weapon and a means for grabbing and creasing the hands and arms of an attacker.

An analogue of the kubotan is the yawara - a similar object, only with pointed ends for even more painful blows. In close combat, there is probably nothing that can replace the kubotan and yawara - even if you poke this weapon lightly somewhere in the ribs or neck, the enemy will lose all desire to mess with you.

Many tricks and techniques for working with kubotan and yawara can be found on the Internet. The cost of the weapon is very small; no permit to carry is required. Even at the airport you will be allowed on the plane with these items. It is quite suitable for a student, for a girl, for a motorist.

Telescopic batons

Telescopic baton- this is a very interesting thing: when folded, it fits in the palm of your hand, pocket or handbag, and if necessary, it can instantly turn into a serious weapon that can easily inflict serious injuries on the offender.

It is precisely because of its health hazard that the telescopic baton is classified by many experts as a bladed weapon and a special equipment. In Russia, only law enforcement officers have the right to have and use this means of self-defense. The legislation does not provide permission for the use of such batons by ordinary citizens.

It’s also unlikely that you’ll be able to buy a baton, but many craftsmen manage to make them themselves. This is done very simply - you just need to have several metal pipes of different diameters and a lathe for turning parts. In combat, the telescopic baton is extremely effective, but you can use it only at your own peril and risk.

Repellent devices

The category of deterrent devices includes all kinds of devices such as sirens and personal alarms. When used, they emit a strong squeal and whistle, which is supposed to scare away the attacker and put him to flight. The cost of any repellent devices is quite low, they easily fit even in the smallest pockets. But there is no need to talk about high efficiency - they, of course, will scare away a dog or a kindergartener, but they will only make a more or less serious opponent laugh (although, if so, this can help you get out of problems).

Models

Dummy knives and pistols can be called a means of self-defense only nominally. In the dark, a lighter made to fit a “barrel” may have the desired effect on the consciousness of a heavily drunk Gopnik. But in the event of a real threat, the use of such a means will look like baby talk, because It is very difficult to inflict any damage on them.

In addition, there is an effect here similar to what we described when talking about gas pistols. At the sight of a “bag” or a “feather”, the criminal (he may not know that the victim is holding a dummy) can move on to more decisive actions, and he will have to “resolve” something that could have been avoided altogether.

If you don’t have the money or desire to purchase a real means of self-defense, you can throw a dummy weapon into your purse or pocket. In all other cases, it is better to get something more serious.

Available means

Available means- these are any things and objects that you can use for protection in case of an attack on you. If there is no specialized means, a heavy bag, an umbrella, deodorant, a brick, a bottle, a chair, a table, a potato, an apple, a glass and any other object that is in your field of vision that can be thrown, hit, or splashed in the face will be suitable for defense. etc. But remember that you shouldn’t be too zealous, because the degree of your defense should be commensurate with the degree of threat.

So, we have looked at most of the available self-defense means. As you can see for yourself, the choice is not bad. All you have to do is choose what you like and suits you. And here are some recommendations on this topic:

  • If you often have to walk through dark alleys, it is better to choose a stun gun or “Osu”
  • If you like to run in parks, you can choose a special gas cartridge for athletes - small and conveniently attached to your hand, or a personal alarm
  • If you live in a disadvantaged area and a ride in an elevator is a new “extreme” experience for you every time, it is better to have a stun gun, a can of pepper gel or an aerosol gun, a kubotan or a jawara
  • If you often walk with your child and fear for his safety, arm him with a personal alarm device
  • If you are afraid of dogs, an ultrasonic repeller would be a great option.
  • If you often go out into nature and like to set up camp and sit by the fire at night, the “Wasp” and several sets of different cartridges for it will always help you
  • If you are confident in your reaction and quick actions, feel free to purchase a stun gun, kubotan or yawara
  • If you're a wimp, can't hit a person hard, or just simply, buy a short-casted weapon, an aerosol gun or a stun gun.
  • If you are a motorist and often drive a car, throw a gas canister or a shocker into the glove compartment or armrest, keep a heavy baton or tire iron in the trunk, and hang a key fob with a personal alarm on your keys (by the way, transporting it in the car is the same as carrying , you can only use self-defense permitted by law and with a permit document, if required)

Note that these are only general tips and, in fact, any option is suitable for both men and women, students, pensioners, motorists, etc. But remember: whatever you choose, you need to use it wisely and only in cases of extreme necessity - when there is a real threat to the life and health of you or your loved ones.

A lot has been said about the effectiveness and benefits of self-defense means, but there are often situations when you simply don’t have anything like that with you (or don’t have anything at all), and you have to rely only on your own strength. If you are a master of sports in boxing or kickboxing, a champion in sambo or mixed fight, your chances of giving selection to the scoundrels are high. But if you lead a lifestyle completely different from it, everything becomes significantly more complicated.

However, it is not at all necessary to become a professional fighter in order to “knock out” an attacker or simply hurt him so that he falls behind. It is enough to know a few effective self-defense techniques. Naturally, we are not saying that if you know how to twist a wrist, you will emerge victorious from any fight, but it is still better to be able to do it than not to be able to do it.

In the next lesson you will get acquainted with the features of self-defense on the street and in a confined space, the most effective strikes, some methods of defense and attack, pressure points and methods of influencing them. You will also learn how to free yourself from being grabbed and strangled, what to do if you are grabbed by your clothes or neck, what to do if you are grabbed from behind, how to behave if you want to hit you with a fist, knife or baton. In addition, we will give a set of recommendations and techniques for the fair sex. Knowing how to carry out a couple of techniques, and even having a means of self-defense with you, you will become a person with whom few people want to sort things out.

Want to test your knowledge?

If you want to check your theoretical knowledge on the topic of the course and understand how suitable it is for you, you can take our test. For each question, only 1 option can be correct. After you select one of the options, the system automatically moves on to the next question.

Russian legislation gives citizens the right not only to purchase, but also to use legal means of self-defense. Such self-defense means in some situations allow you to protect your health and life, and save people around you from the unlawful actions of an attacker. You do not need to obtain special licenses to purchase legally permitted self-defense items. Similar products differ in price and principle of operation. Gas cartridges are in particular demand. Pepper sprays come in two types (depending on the type of spray) - aerosol and jet. The former are recommended for use in open spaces, taking into account the direction of the wind. Inkjet can be used not only outdoors, but also indoors if its area is more than three meters.

To use spray cans you do not need to have special accuracy. The main thing is to quickly aim at the attacker's face and press the button. Such self-defense means do not cause difficulties in transportation; they are small in size, so they can easily fit even into a small handbag or pocket. A teenager and a pensioner will understand how they work. You can buy them to protect your health from aggressive animals, as well as to stop illegal actions from people under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

In addition, you can buy other products for self-defense: , (bludgeons), . Also, in some unforeseen situations, aerosol devices, BAMs, signaling devices, training grenades and smoke bombs can be very useful. Everyone knows well that no one can give guarantees of complete security. No matter how good the police we have, we cannot say with complete confidence that in the event of an attack on us aggressive people someone will protect us. There are situations when you can only rely on yourself. The task is not easy, because... There are several attackers, and even with weapons in their hands. At such moments, your own dexterity, ingenuity and... means that will help you with this can serve as salvation. the main task is to get out of this situation as quickly as possible, and not to teach the attackers a lesson. Therefore, you will need means of self-defense that can unbalance the attackers for some time, so that you can leave a dangerous situation. Let's consider possible means of self-defense.

Gas canister

2

According to statistics, this self-defense weapon is the most common and 5% of people surveyed chose it. Gas cartridges have become so widespread due to their low price and small dimensions. This remedy is based on a special irritating substance, which, when it comes into contact with the eyes or upper respiratory tract, causes increased lacrimation, severe pain, and an acute cough in the attacker. In this situation, the person on whom the attack was planned is given additional time during which he can leave to go about his business or call the police. Despite their low cost and fairly good efficiency, gas cans have some disadvantages. So for effective self-defense You need to at least hit the attacker with an aerosol jet directly in the face. In addition, the impact distance is usually no more than 2 m, so in order to repel the attacker’s attack, you will need to get him close enough.

UM control (manufacturer Tyumen aerosols))

KO (FOG and JET)
Pepper Jet (manufacturer Tekhkrim
New Russian Protection (manufacturer Tekhkrim)

Gas cylinders the purchase of which is NOT RECOMMENDED
Shock - Unreliable valve (may leak or bleed), low efficiency.

3

Short range of application.
Reflex - Ineffective composition..
Cobra - Ineffective composition..
Scorpio - less concentration than in OP and KO. Outdated cylinder.

IMPACT device

4

This device is a mechanical device for firing liquid formulations (pepper, synthetic pepper, pepper with paint, etc.) and the use of some pyrotechnic BAMs. For firing, a kind of “cartridges” are used (Small-sized aerosol can or BAM), more precisely similar to a cartridge disposable cans with an expelling composition on one side and a “striking” one on the other, actual cartridges but without gunpowder.. The advantages include ease of use and the possibility of targeted shooting, as well as the fact that the device can be equipped with a large assortment of “ammunition”..

There are quite a few manufacturers of BAMs for Udar, but the most effective are BAMs produced in Shikhany with the substance CR..

Advantages
+Range and accuracy of application (up to 3-4 meters)
+Wide range of BAMs: pyrotechnic, with MPK, with natural pepper, with CR, with paint..
+No license required for purchase.
+Efficiency (especially with BAMs produced by Shikhana)
+ Purely mechanical operating principle. The shot and release are made in one motion.
+In case of a misfire, just press the lever again to fire the next BAM..
+There is a fuse (I personally did not use it).
+Does not cause bodily harm

Flaws
-The price of the device with BAMs is 900 (approximately) rubles.
-You can block a shot from the Impact with your hand, so you need to use it as unexpectedly and quickly as possible.
-Problem with buying normal BAMams in some cities..
-The impact is larger in size than a can and carrying it is a little more problematic. However, there are holsters to carry...

Stun guns

At first glance, it is a very useful thing. But in reality it turns out that a stun gun is not effective for self-defense. There are many reasons. Home - in Russia it is prohibited to produce stun guns more powerful than 3 W. This power is not enough to effectively counter the intruder. Another disadvantage is that in order to use electric shock, you need to be close to the enemy, and this is not always safe. If the criminal has a knife, the consequences can be dire. But there are cases when an electric shock can save you, however, there is a very high probability that it will not help, so you should buy a stun gun only if absolutely necessary.

5

A list of pistols and revolvers that are currently the best of all available..

T-10

10

The T-10 pistol can easily be called the best traumatic pistol on the market. Moreover, this is the only pistol that was developed taking into account the wishes of users of traumatic weapons, including participants in this forum. The use of high-strength materials and thoughtful design allow the pistol to use the most powerful 10x22 caliber cartridges available in stores. The thick steel barrel does not allow bulges and cracks as on some other types of traumatic weapons.

Advantages:
+ High build quality, reliability, durability and long service life of the entire pistol.
+ Possibility of installing a flashlight and laser laser, reflective front sight.
+ Good ergonomics
+ High accuracy
+ Designed for powerful cartridges produced by AKBS
+ Efficiency (maximum allowed in its class)

Flaws:
1 The dimensions of the pistol are not smaller than those of the PM, and therefore it is not.
2 Some refining of the magazine is required.

Warrior

11

"GSV" revolver developed on the basis of the "Udar" combat revolver. It differs from the latter in the changed caliber, material of manufacture and the presence of protrusions in the barrel.
The (undoubted) advantages of this weapon include normal capsule ignition and high reliability. In addition, the revolver, despite its impressive dimensions, is quite compact and comfortable to carry.. Ratnik is made of high-strength aluminum alloy by milling, which makes it very durable and at the same time lightweight.. Ratnik's cartridges are two-bullet, with each bullet weighing 2.1-2.8 grams. The bullets are made of rubber with the addition of metal powder.. In terms of penetration ability on soft tissues and materials (down jackets, clothing, meat, paper), Ratnik is at least as good as Osa (however, it will not penetrate a wild boar. In hard materials (metal), OSA is the leader, or rather the 18x45 cartridge .. The disadvantage of the Ratnik is that, due to the diagonal protrusions in the barrel, it hits noticeably to the right, which, however, is entirely compensated for with an offset slot and training, although I would like the protrusions to be straight.. At the moment, a version of the revolver chambered for the 410 cartridge (short sleeve) is expected to be on sale )

Advantages
+ Reliability (capsule ignition, mechanics)
+ Efficiency (maximum under current laws)
+ Light weight (500 grams)
+ Double-bullet cartridge (I strongly recommend buying cartridges only in STEEL sleeves!)
+ Bullet (each) weighing up to 2.8 grams
+ Durability (very durable frame and drum alloy and steel triggers and pins)

Flaws
- Shoots noticeably to the right of the aiming point. (fixable with training)
- The price has increased from 9 to 25 (in some stores) thousand rubles.

MP 79-9T

12

The MP 79-9T is a gas-fired pistol based on the design of the IZH 79-8 pistol, which in turn was created on the basis of the 6P42 pistol, or was made from a Makarov combat pistol.. Uses 9PA cartridges with classic primer ignition. The MP 79-9T magazine includes 8 rounds and one more cartridge can be in the chamber (allowed by law).. There is also a 10 (+1 in the chamber) charging version of the MP 79-9T with a double-row magazine like the PMM (modernized Makarov pistol). The main advantages of the MP 79-9T can be considered multiple charges and the absence of brittle alloys in the design.
Once the magazine is used up, the pistol can be used as a very effective “percussion instrument”. The disadvantage of the MP 79-9T and all 9PA (and in fact all produced) trauma weapons is that they are not very effective, especially against attackers in winter clothes. In the event of a real attack, no one forbids shooting in the head or knees. In addition, the external similarity of the MP 79-9T with a Makarov pistol can be called a positive aspect (especially when installing the original PMovskaya PCB handle on it). Just the sight of a pistol similar to a Makarov can scare you away (they will think it’s a policeman or a bandit), but that’s all you can count on!! subject to appropriate appearance(they won’t believe a glamorous young man) and psychological attitude (don’t speak in falsetto).

Advantages
+ Reliability (steel construction after all)
+ Appearance similar to PM
+The ability to strike like a hammer (0.7 iron with sharp corners is a powerful argument)
+ Capsule ignition.
+Multi-charge (9 or 11)
++Maintainability (there are not just a lot of spare parts, but a lot)

Flaws

-Poor quality of fit of parts (it will shoot at anyone, but you definitely need to look and choose when purchasing)

MP 78-9T

13

The MP 78-9T pistol is the flattest traumatic pistol in existence; its design is based on the PSM pistol, which was once developed for special services. The pistol is made entirely of weapons-grade steel and, like the MAC, can be used for hand-to-hand combat when the ammunition is used up. 9PA cartridges up to 50J. The disadvantage is the weak barrel, which is structurally impossible to strengthen.

Advantages
+ compact and easy to carry (probably the most convenient of all pistols)
+ material of manufacture - steel
+ good accuracy
+ High build quality
+ Good accuracy

Flaws
- previously there were problems with cracking barrels even with standard cartridges, but now this doesn’t seem to happen.
-Low power and efficiency when shooting at the torso (nothing can be done; restrictions apply).
- in the basic version of delivery there is a relatively small magazine capacity - 6 rounds. But you can buy the necessary parts and increase it to 8. Plus one cartridge in the chamber.
- Not everyone is comfortable to hold in the hand, even with a “long” magazine heel
- the return spring is very tight, it is difficult to distort the bolt, especially in a stressful situation. Women may have problems with this.

Storm

14

The Groza pistol, like the Makarych, is a gas pistol with the option of a pistol and uses the same cartridges. The prototype is the very famous Ukrainian Fort pistol. It differs from the Fort in the presence of teeth in the barrel to comply with crime requirements.. The big advantage of the Groza is its thick barrel and modern appearance; in addition, the Groza is distinguished by a large magazine capacity (almost 2 times more than the MR).. The Groza is produced with two types of frames : steel or polymer .. The disadvantage of Groza is its somewhat larger dimensions in comparison with Makarych .. There are really no spare parts for it (however, it doesn’t seem to break)

Advantages
++ Thick trunk.
+ Modern look.
++ Multi-charge.
+ Good quality manufacturing

Flaws
-Some big sizes compared to MR.

Streamer 1014/2014

Produced in Turkey only for the Russian market, it was originally created as a traumatic weapon and does not have a combat prototype. It is very compact and convenient, made of zinc-aluminium-magnesium alloy, has a high service life and design endurance, magazine capacity - 14 rounds.

Pros - compactness, ability to fire powerful ammunition, guaranteed resource - 3000 rounds.

Disadvantages - the material of manufacture is alloy; dropping the gun on hard surfaces is not recommended.

Here is the result of a shot from a Streamer pistol from 6 meters through thick jeans.

Revolvers

Revolver LOM 13

Today's only super-compact steel (slightly more than completely) revolver chambered for 9 RA cartridges. The advantages include, first of all, the quality of workmanship and compactness (almost maximum for a revolver), as well as an ergonomic handle and the ability to reload the revolver using “clips”. The revolver also has a special fuse (like a safety lock).

17

Advantages
++ All steel (also available in stainless steel)
++ Compact
+ Ergonomics
+ the presence of “clips” for quick reloading
+ caliber 9 RA (any 9RA cartridges approved for sale in the Russian Federation)

Revolvers Thunderstorm

Groz revolvers are made of high-quality steel and, in addition to a pleasant appearance and a comfortable handle, show very good power (the protrusions in the barrel are smaller). The drum of the Groza revolver includes 6 cartridges (cartridges from any manufacturer, including magnum, are suitable) 9PA, which can be replaced all at once using a “clip.” To the undoubted advantages of revolvers, it is worth adding a wide range of manufactured revolvers - the lineup consists of 8 models. 4 of them have a completely steel structure and are marked with the letter C (steel). others have a frame made of durable material (but lighter) and a slightly different handle. Revolver barrels vary in length. the shortest model has a 2-inch barrel, the longest-barreled (a real monster) has a 6-inch barrel and excellent accuracy due to the long barrel.

18

Advantages
+ high-quality steel construction
+ 6 rounds
+ 9PA caliber (you can use ANY 9PA cartridges sold in stores.
+ good power and accuracy

-Walters RR, R22T, R99- Extremely low structural strength, it simply falls apart into pieces even from weak cartridges. The weapon is made of fragile powder composite and cannot withstand any load. The main parts cannot be repaired..
-Iceberg- Low-grade, fragile material made. Rough, ill-conceived and fragile design. Trash..
-Wasp Aegis-Insufficient reliability and durability.. (although the manufacturer seems to be solving this problem). Overpriced.
-Gadfly- Same as Iceberg in terms of quality, except maybe a little better... You shouldn’t buy all of them...
-Hornet- More durable than all of the above, but since there are much better weapons, you shouldn’t buy them.
-Mauser HSC- A fragile pistol made of a powder composite.. Inconvenient and unreliable..
Everything good that they write about him in magazine advertising is a blatant lie..
-Rec Cobra-Brittle alloy, negligible resource. We can't repair it.
-Kimar("pseudo Beretta")-A very fragile pistol, extremely unreliable and irreparable.. Doesn’t fire 50J cartridges.
-Still-Brittle alloy, designed for weak cartridges. Almost beyond repair.

Barrelless firearms

Guard

20

The Strazhnik barrelless firearm is an independent development of the IzhMech gunsmiths. Uses 18X45 cartridges with electric ignition produced (and developed) by NOT and NIIPH. TO positive qualities The guard should note the extremely low weight (200 grams) and the maximum reliability and durability for a weapon with electric ignition.
The guard has a safety lock in the trigger button and a system check button (it won’t save you from a faulty cartridge). In addition, it uses more current to ignite than the OCA, which increases the chances of triggering.. The disadvantage of the Guardian is that it is dual-charged and lacks a laser (however, not everyone needs a laser).. To fire a shot, 2 lithium-ion batteries are used.. System The guard has no wires or cables, which also increases its practical reliability..

Currently, a modification of the Guard with a laser target is on sale.

Advantages
++Light weight, compact.
+Ability to use the entire range of 18x45 and 15x45 ammunition from NOT, NIIPH, AKBS, A+A..
++The only derringer (double-barreled pistol) that you can buy today without fear that it will fall apart.
+Has a fuse (I personally don’t use it, but let it be)

Flaws
-Only 2 rounds
-Electroignition

OSA pistols

21

Pistols of the OSA family and 18x45 cartridges are their own unique development of NIIPH and NOT and are barrelless (the role of the barrel is played by the cartridge itself) firearms of 18x45 caliber. The undeniable advantages of the cartridge are the presence of a steel core inside the rubber bullet and the weight of the bullet itself (11.2 grams), as well as the large (largest in the Russian Federation) caliber (diameter) of the bullet of 18mm. In addition to traumatic ammunition, OSA can use signal and illumination cartridges (an alternative to a flare gun) and light and sound, as well as ammunition with MPC from AKBS (by purchasing these ammunition
Be sure to seal the cap with varnish around the edges).

For traumatic ammunition, it is preferable to buy cartridges produced by A+A or NOT rather than NIIPH since A+A and NOT cartridges are more powerful..

22

The disadvantages of the complex as a whole are:
Using electrical ignition without ensuring proper system reliability (especially in newer models). Problems with workmanship on new models.
Misfires and failure of the system as a whole are possible for various reasons.... The most reliable pistols of this family at the moment are OSA PB-4m (very reliable design), OSA 4-1 laser, OSA ML.. The least reliable is Osa Egida (Not I recommend that anyone buy this sample).

Advantages of OSA 4-1 Laser OSA ML and OSA 4m (without laser)
+ Light weight
++ Possibility of using various ammunition (trauma, signal, light and sound)
++ The maximum caliber for traumatic weapons today.
Metal core bullets weighing 11 grams
Availability of laser in 4-1 and ML
+ The 4m handle is smaller than that of the 4-1 and due to this it is more compact but sits somewhat worse in the hand.
+ Good after-sales service..

Advantages of OSA Aegis
+ very light weight
+ Compactness (maximum at the moment)
+ presence of laser center
+ Presence of a fuse
+ Good after-sales service
+ Modern design

23

-Disadvantages of OSA 4-1 Laser OSA ML and OSA 4m
-Problems with the reliability of the complex as a whole. (we must admit that sometimes the human factor is the reason)
-No fuse (I haven’t used it personally, but it would be better if there was one)
-Only 4 rounds.. (no warning shots or misses)..

Disadvantages of OSA Aegis
- Inconvenient design of the release key. Due to compactness, they lost a lot in convenience.
- Price (in the regions up to 9,000 rubles)
- Serious problems with reliability.

Here are x-rays of people after they were shot with a Wasp.

Tests of a wasp rubber bullet, leader (TT), a Saiga 410 carbine and a 12-gauge Lynx pump - on a person.

A little humor is all that's left. As a joke, Izhmekha is dedicated to the defective children.

Knives

The use of knives for self-defense should be considered as an extreme measure, since both the police (and the police) and judges really do not like people with knives and even more so in cases of self-defense with a knife.. A knife is generally associated in the understanding of many as something obviously criminal..
Therefore, you can use a knife only in case of a real threat to life and health.. When there is no way out..

Choosing a knife for SELF-DEFENSE (remember a knife is a last resort)
The most important thing when buying a knife is to make sure that it is not a bladed weapon.
Knives that are sold in stores must (demand!) have a certificate confirming that they are not edged weapons. Check whether the certificate you received (the certificate must be given to you along with the knife) corresponds to the knife you are buying (the seller may mistakenly give you a certificate for another knife). Laminate the certificate and ALWAYS carry it with you:

Pooch-daggers and more from Viking Norway. They cost pennies, but at the same time they have a certificate that they are furrier’s knives (truly funny). And you don’t mind throwing it away.

Professional advice is available.

Smooth-bore long-barreled weapon

In order to understand what this is, it is enough to remember the end of the film? Terminator 2?, where Sarah Connor shoots the evil T-1000 robot with a pump-action shotgun. We must immediately warn that this type of weapon is suitable for self-defense only in very rare cases: one can imagine what will happen to the attacker even if he is hit by a traumatic bullet from a standard distance for self-defense of 3-5 m. Therefore, such weapons can be used only in cases of an immediate threat to life, which will then have to be proven.
Despite its high efficiency, this type of weapon has many disadvantages. One of the main drawbacks lies in the word “long-barreled”. This is not 20 cm or 30 cm at all, but a weapon with a barrel length of at least 80 cm. Therefore, no combat pistols and revolvers? this is prohibited by law. Among other things, it is not at all allowed to walk around dark corners with such a gun. Weapons must be transported unloaded and folded. Therefore, the real place of self-defense is only own house, where a person may have time to get a weapon out of the safe and put it in combat position. As with the previous type of weapon, here again it is necessary to obtain a storage license. In order to have the right to carry, you must also obtain a hunting license.

Caliber selection

Theoretically, it is believed that in order to cause fatal injuries to a person, a wounding projectile must have an energy of at least 80 J. A bullet of even the weakest hunting caliber? 410th? has an energy of about 1,000 J. For the 20th, this value will be about 2,000 J. And for the most common 12th, the muzzle energy can exceed 3,000, and for the Magnum version - even 4,000 J, exceeding the required level by 50 times! The decisive factor is always your skill with weapons. And yet... There are some subtleties in the matter of choosing a caliber.

The reason for the unexpected popularity of this generally unpopular caliber in the world was, without a doubt, the self-loading carbine Saiga-410, released several years ago. The presence of this relatively cheap and reliable weapon is the main argument in favor of the 410. A used Saiga-410 can be purchased for 1,000 rubles, or even cheaper. The second significant argument in favor of the 410 is its low recoil, which is very important if the possibility of using the weapon by a woman is meant.

All other features of this caliber can be characterized solely not in its favor. This is the high cost of cartridges, the low damaging capabilities of buckshot and the almost complete absence of a high-quality factory bullet shot.

The recoil of the 20th is only slightly inferior to that of the 12th, and therefore for most women I would find it uncomfortable. For a man, in my opinion, the choice of the 20th is difficult to explain, since in terms of the controllability of rapid fire, the 20th is practically no different from the 12th, noticeably inferior to the latter in terms of lethality.

Undoubtedly the best choice. Ammo for every taste. From cheap 5-ruble? Nitrogen? before?Dynamite Nobel?. The cartridge requires equipment with buckshot of any size, which is especially important for self-defense. The availability of bullets of the highest quality from foreign manufacturers for sale is a very serious argument in favor of the 12-gauge. Should you consider the length of the chamber when purchasing a gun? 70 mm or 76 mm. In the latter case, the gun is designed to use Magnum cartridges.

Weapon Selection

Single-shot weapons of any system and design are absolutely not suitable for self-defense needs. According to the Weapons Law, the first shot of the defending party must be fired into the air. Of course, “for lack of fish and cancer?” fish?, and if you already have a single-shot shotgun, that will do in a pinch. A double-barreled shotgun will give you only one more chance compared to the previous option.

You should not opt for repeating shotguns with a longitudinally sliding bolt action. No matter how masterfully you wield this type of weapon, in terms of practical rate of fire any bolt gun is noticeably inferior to a pump gun, and even more so to a semi-automatic weapon.

Pump-action shotgun? a completely traditional and largely justified choice. Positive properties - large (up to 8 rounds) magazine capacity, relative compactness, undemanding quality and power of cartridges, the possibility of tactical recharging. The pump is the undisputed leader in the speed of the first shot from the “weapon completely unloaded” position. The disadvantages are still a lower rate of fire compared to a semi-automatic and a longer period of developing stable skill in handling the pump-action reloading mechanism.

Semi-automatic weapons- undoubtedly the fastest firing weapon on the market civilian weapons. Disadvantages are sensitivity to the quality of cartridges, their power, as well as eternal problems with the procedure for changing magazines (if we are talking about carbines like Saiga?). Imported Benelli and Franchi assault rifles are, of course, good, but due to the high cost, not everyone can afford such weapons. Domestic semi-automatic devices (MTs-21-12), due to their hefty, purely hunting, dimensions and 70-mm chamber, are inconvenient for self-defense needs.

In terms of price-quality ratio, semi-automatic? Saiga? They have practically no competitors either among domestic or foreign weapons.

Tactical capabilities of smoothbore weapons

When firing at short range, self-loading smoothbore carbine is a truly formidable weapon. Perhaps such a thesis will seem seditious to some, but in terms of combat effectiveness, a shotgun is, if not superior, then not inferior to a submachine gun. In this case, the use of the word ?combat? completely justified, and it is not without reason that smooth-bore guns are necessarily included in the weapons of all kinds of assault groups and special forces.

Mechanism studies lethal effect bullets indicate that a 6-11 mm caliber bullet is physically unable to transfer energy of more than 700-750 J to body tissues.

The bullets of any military long-barreled weapon have significantly more energy than the 700 J mentioned above. At a short distance, it would be very reasonable to distribute the energy of 3500 J over 9–15 independent lethal elements. This is exactly what we have in 12 gauge buckshot. Depending on the situation, might it be more advisable to have a larger number of damaging elements in one shot? large fraction.

A shot with shot (buckshot) allows for a noticeably larger aiming error than a shot with a bullet. Hence the gain in speed. This advantage is even more noticeable when shooting at moving targets.

Now let's turn from general reasoning to the practical side? What should your defensive ammunition be equipped with? store.

Small fraction (?5-10)

It makes sense to equip the very first cartridge with it, the purpose of which will be to? voice? the very same warning shot prescribed by law. Actually, the purpose of a warning shot is to prevent further development of the conflict, so it is very reasonable to take measures to minimize the consequences of ricochets in the event of shooting in confined spaces. At extremely short distances (0-3 m) a small shot shot is no different in lethality from any other shot. As the distance increases to 15 meters or more, its effectiveness is completely lost.

Fraction?5-1

It doesn’t make much sense to use it in defensive cartridges. The mass of shot 2, for example, is only 0.3 g and at a distance of 25-30 m its energy will not exceed 15 J. Any obstacle will be an insurmountable barrier for it. The hope for a psychological demoralizing effect is best placed on a warning shot.

Large fraction (0-0000)

One of the most formidable means available? shotgun. Shot 0000 weighing 0.75 g with an initial 380 m/s at a distance of 25-30 m will retain 330 m/s, that is, it will have an energy of over 40 J. At the indicated distance, the shot sheaf will have a diameter of about a meter. How many pellets in a 12 gauge cartridge? about 50. A person caught in a cloud of shot has a chance of getting 15-20 hits. This is serious. There is only one drawback of these numbers - the inability to hit targets behind obstacles. So, a fence made of an inch board, a wooden door or a car door will reduce its effectiveness to zero. Despite this, I would recommend using 00-0000 coarse shot cartridges in a defensive magazine, alternating them with buckshot.

Buckshot

Strictly speaking, buckshot refers to spherical projectiles with a diameter of 6 to 10 mm. However practical use Three sizes of buckshot are found in factory cartridges: 6 mm, 7.5 mm and 8.5 mm. This is due to how many buckshots are stacked in a row in a case of a particular caliber. In the 12th, 3 buckshots of 8.5 mm each, or 4 of 7.5 mm each, or 7 of 6 mm each can be placed in one row. The fundamental difference between buckshot and shot is that each buckshot is a full-fledged lethal element. Thus, the initial energy of an 8.5-mm buckshot weighing 3.6 grams and about 380 m/sec is 260 J, which is three times the energy required to cause fatal damage. An obstacle such as a door or fence 30-40 mm thick is not capable of protecting a person from large buckshot.

It should be noted that the difference in the effectiveness of various calibers becomes especially noticeable in buckshot. Thus, in 20-gauge buckshot cartridges, only 6-mm buckshot can be used, 4 buckshots in a row. Larger buckshot will be impossible to rationally place in the cartridge case. Factory-made 410-caliber buckshot, which is a projectile of three buckshots, is characterized by a low initial velocity and mediocre accuracy. It is interesting to note that it is in the 410 caliber that the largest buckshot from 8.8 to 10 mm can work most effectively, but with independent equipment. Powder charge of 1.1 g? Sokol? reports to a projectile of three buckshots of 8.8 mm caliber initial speed about 480-500 m/sec. Thus, the energy of each buckshot exceeds 450 J, which is comparable to the energy of a 9 mm Parabellum bullet. From 10 meters, such a projectile easily penetrates 2-mm steel or a layer of wood up to 10 cm thick. Using a projectile of three 10-mm buckshots in special containers in 12 gauge makes no sense. Hitting a target with such a projectile is much more difficult than with a bullet.

Bullet

34

A kind of ultima ratio (last argument). In a defensive scenario, the need to use a bullet is unlikely. And yet... It’s useful to have a couple of bullet cartridges in a miniature bandolier worn on the butt. If necessary (if, more than expected, the aggressor is protected by body armor), the bullet cartridge can be quickly sent to the under-barrel magazine of the pump-action gun or to the spare magazine? Saiga?. Theoretically, a smoothbore shotgun bullet cartridge should not penetrate personal armor protection above class one. Still, I recommend having a pack of bullet cartridges in stock? Sovester? or at worst? Tandem?.

What is not allowed.
- you cannot have a weapon that fires bursts
- You cannot have rubber arrows that can confidently harm an attacker.
- you cannot have pistols, or in general any weapon that can fire being shorter than 800mm.

In total, we see that the ban on weapons does not apply to mass shootings; tactical weapons are quite sold in the form of Saiga-12k-40, for example.
- does not concern car disassemblies, it is quite possible to carry something 800mm long with you in a car if you wish.

Article 37. Necessary defense
It is not a crime to cause harm to an attacker in a state of necessary defense, that is, when protecting the personality and rights of the defender or other persons, the legally protected interests of society or the state from a socially dangerous attack, if the limits of necessary defense were not exceeded.

In general terms, this can be formulated as follows: the degree of protection must be chosen based on the dangers of the situation. Those. If they just wanted to beat you with their fists, this does not mean at all that you can shoot a person with a 20-caliber pump-action shotgun. In fact, in this case, you can only cause moderate damage to the attacker. If the attacker directly threatens life, then the limits of self-defense can be expanded up to the death of the attacker. In any case, it must be remembered that exceeding the limits of necessary self-defense also entails criminal liability.

So according to the same article 37:

Deliberate actions that clearly do not correspond to the nature and degree of public danger of the encroachment are recognized as exceeding the limits of necessary defense.

In addition to all items permitted by law, a person can also use the available means. For example, if the attacker is twice the size and is also armed with an axe, it is quite possible to use a brick or stone found nearby to repel the attack. True, this does not mean at all that you can carry any homemade devices with you, such as brass knuckles or metal nuts on a rope. In order to understand what is possible and what is not, we present an excerpt from Article 6 of the federal law “On Weapons?”.

Article 6. Restrictions established on the circulation of civilian and service weapons

The following are prohibited on the territory of the Russian Federation:
?? flails, brass knuckles, shurikens, boomerangs and other objects of impact, crushing and throwing action specially adapted for use as weapons, with the exception of sports equipment;

cold bladed weapons and knives, the blades and blades of which are either automatically removed from the handle when a button or lever is pressed and fixed by them, or extended due to gravity or accelerated movement and automatically fixed, with a blade and blade length of more than 90 mm;
firearms without a barrel for self-defense, electroshock devices and spark gaps having output parameters exceeding the values established by state standards of the Russian Federation and corresponding to the norms of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation?
