Wall adapter for VRC 630 Vaillant VR 55 designed for ease of use of Vaillant boilers.

The wall adapter for the VRC 630 - Vaillant VR 55 unit has the following advantages and benefits.

It would be much easier if the same temperature remained outside at all times of the year, then there would be no need to adjust the heating. But in winter very coldy are replaced by thaws with positive temperatures and vice versa, it is clear that the heating system must adequately respond to weather surprises.

Heating control methods

Any problem, as a rule, has several ways to solve it; adjusting the heating operation is no exception.

The following adjustment methods can be distinguished:

  • The simplest option is to install a special regulator in front of each radiator. Such thermostats for home heating can be used in all heating systems without exception, and the principle of operation is that the coolant current through the battery is regulated;

Note! In some cases, for example, in city apartments, this method of adjustment is the only one available.

  • if the basis for the operation of the thermostat is data on changes in air temperature in the room (or outside), then adjusting the operation of the boiler involves changing the temperature of the coolant. In this case, the control device is located directly next to the boiler;

  • "smart" circulation pumps with a slight stretch, but can also be classified as heating regulators. If a conventional regulator is installed on a radiator, then the pump is located directly next to the boiler (on the pipeline supplying the cooled coolant). The adjustment process is carried out by changing the rotation speed of the pump rotor.

Of the listed methods, the first is considered the most flexible, since it allows you to change the temperature not only in a single room, but also in individual radiators. The remaining 2 methods change the operation of the heating system as a whole, that is, the temperature will change immediately in all rooms in the house.

Thermostats for radiators

Such devices are a thermal head, which is installed on a section of the supply pipe directly in front of the battery. The principle of operation is simple - when the temperature in the room exceeds a predetermined limit, the device simply slightly decreases, and accordingly the volume of coolant entering the battery decreases.

The simplest manual regulator is a regular tap, in which case the adjustment will have to be done manually. But automatic models are more often used.

Types of thermostats

If we choose the principle of operation as the main criterion, then all devices of this type can be divided into mechanical and automatic. In mechanical ones, a person regulates the temperature with his own hands, constantly turning the valve; in automatic ones, after setting the device, it works on its own.

You can also classify them according to the location of the sensor.

There are 3 options:

  • the temperature sensor is located directly in the thermal head (in this case, you need to especially carefully monitor the installation of the control device, because there is a heating radiator nearby);
  • the sensor is located a couple of meters away - allows you to more accurately regulate the heating operation;

  • the sensor is placed outside - the result is a weather-dependent heating regulator. It will instantly respond to changes in outside temperature.

Note! When using indoor temperature sensors, there is always a time gap between changes weather conditions outdoors and changing the heating operating mode. The use of external temperature sensors solves this problem.

Design, principle of operation and preparation of the thermostat for operation

Thermostats for heating radiators, operating in automatic mode, use the property of liquids and gases to expand and contract when heated/cooled. The head contains a sealed chamber (bellows), which contains the working fluid or gas.

The bellows wall is corrugated, so that when the internal volume changes, it lengthens or shortens. Due to this, the clearance in the pipe supplying coolant to the radiator changes.

The diagram below shows the Danfoss thermal head device. It can be seen that when the bellows is extended, the valve will partially block the supply pipe.

Even when using automatic devices, preliminary adjustment will be necessary.

The heating radiators are adjusted in the following order:

  • first you need to ensure an unimpeded flow of coolant into the radiator, so the valve opens completely;
  • as soon as the room temperature exceeds the required value by 5-7ᵒС, the valve closes completely;
  • now you just need to wait until the temperature in the room drops to the required value;
  • Once the temperature has become comfortable, you can slowly open the valve until the radiator begins to warm up and the murmur of water can be heard. We can assume that the thermostat for heating radiators is configured and ready for use.

Adjusting the operation of convectors

Quite often, instead of conventional batteries, in-floor convectors are used to heat rooms. The peculiarity of such devices is that they are installed to improve air exchange.

The heater fan rotation speed regulator allows you to reduce the volume of air passing through the convector fin plates, due to which the temperature in the room changes. Without control devices, the fan always runs at 100% speed.

In advanced models, after the temperature in the room drops by 1.5°C, the fan turns on and, due to blowing, increases the heat transfer of the heater. Moreover, one controller can simultaneously operate several fans.

Boiler operation adjustment

In private homes, to change heating operating modes over a wider range, you can use devices that regulate the operation of the boiler as a whole. This will reduce the temperature of the coolant in the system and solve two problems at once: save on fuel and get the optimal temperature in the rooms.

Devices for regulating boiler operation

Such heating regulators consist of 2 blocks:

  • 1st block– consists of a temperature sensor that can be placed both indoors and outdoors. Placing it outdoors has a number of advantages, in particular, it increases the speed of the system’s response to changing weather conditions;
  • 2nd block– the actual adjustment device is located in close proximity to the boiler. Both blocks are connected to each other by a metal wire.

The operating principle of the device is based on the fact that the electrical characteristics of conductors change when their temperature changes. The main working element of the thermostat is a thermocouple or thermistor.

The principle of their operation is somewhat different:

  • electric heating thermostats using thermistors record changes in the resistance of the thermistor;

  • There are devices that use a thermocouple - that is, a plate soldered from 2 different metals. The types of metals are selected in such a way that a sufficiently high potential difference occurs at the junction; when the temperature of the soldering site changes, the potential difference also changes.

This heating thermostat allows you to control the temperature over a wide range, regardless of the power of the heating system. It can be used both in private construction and in multi-storey buildings, a cascade of thermistors will allow in this case to create an intelligent heating system.

Examples of devices that regulate boiler operation

Such devices vary greatly depending on the complexity of the design, the ability to program behavior in different days And different time days, as well as the accuracy of temperature control.

There are several models in order of increasing complexity and cost:

  • room heating regulator VRT 40 - can be called one of the simplest devices for regulating the operation of the boiler (belongs to the class of analog electric regulators). The temperature mode is set manually, and the temperature sensor itself is located directly in the room. In addition to several temperature settings additional settings No;
  • automatic heating controller Calormatic 430 – provides an order of magnitude more possibilities for temperature regulation. Refers to electronic regulators with closed logic (that is, you can only use the operating modes provided by the manufacturer). Such a device costs approximately 13-15 times more than the VRT 40 model;

  • Vzlet-RO 2 – among the heating control devices on the market, can be called the leader in flexibility and accuracy of control. In addition, the user can set an arbitrary operating mode, because this device is produced with open logic, that is, it can be reprogrammed. True, there is also back side– the average consumer is unlikely to want to bother with fine adjustments, and the price will make you think twice before buying.

Devices like the last one on the list are most often used in industry in premises where special meaning It has temperature regime. In addition to simple adjustments, such devices can be used to collect statistics and even for research purposes, but conventional thermostats for heating radiators are not suitable for these purposes.

Adjusting the operation of solid fuel boilers

In a gas or electric boiler, the control unit regulates either the heating temperature of the heat exchanger (electric boilers), or the frequency and duration of operation gas burner (gas boilers). In the case of solid fuel boilers, the fuel combustion process cannot be interrupted every 20-30 minutes, and therefore a different principle is needed for regulating their operation.

The rate of fuel combustion, and therefore the intensity of thermal energy production, depends on the rate of fuel combustion, and this parameter is directly affected by thrust. The draft regulator for solid fuel boilers changes the volume of fresh air entering the combustion chamber and thus regulates the operation of the boiler as a whole.

During operation, such a device constantly monitors the temperature of the coolant (a submersible hollow sleeve is used for this), and the actual change in the position of the boiler damper is carried out through a mechanical transmission.

After installation, you need to configure the regulator; the setup instructions look something like this:

  • turn the handle to set the desired temperature;

Note! If the device is installed horizontally, then you need to use the red scale, if vertically - yellow.

  • after this you need to flood the boiler and bring the temperature to the required temperature;
  • then the chain is put on the damper. It is important that it does not sag; the maximum free play should not exceed 1 mm.

Such a heating thermostat will change the size of the gap through which Fresh air. As soon as the temperature exceeds the required one, the thermostat, through a system of levers, slightly raises the chain, and with it the damper - the air flow increases, which means the combustion process proceeds more intensely.

Heating adjustment using a circulation pump

In the past, unregulated pumps were used, that is, there was no way to regulate the flow of coolant through the pipes. Nowadays, such rarities can only be found in old buildings, and in most cases they have been replaced by adjustable circulation pumps.

If a conventional regulator for a heating radiator changes the coolant current in a single radiator, then changing the operating modes of the pump affects the efficiency of the entire heating system as a whole. For example, at night the rotor speed decreases, because there is no need for intensive heating.

More complex models make it possible to configure the operating mode of the device by day of the week, as well as by time of day. Operating modes such as “Party”, “Vacation”, “Weekend”, etc. are available.

The heating system diagram provides for the installation of a pump directly in front of the boiler on a section of the pipeline with cooled coolant. If you try to install it at the boiler outlet, then heat coolant will significantly reduce the life of the pump.

Summarizing

Heating radiators with a thermostat allow you to create a truly “smart” heating system that adapts to changing weather conditions. Meanwhile, battery regulators are far from the only way to regulate the operation of the heating system. The proposed material is an attempt to generalize existing methods adjusting the heating in the house.

The video shows an example of connecting a thermostat to a boiler.

In this article we will find out what thermostats for home heating can be. We will analyze the basic principles of operation of different devices of this type and tell you how to install them correctly. Let's start, however, with a few general concepts.

Why is this necessary?

But really, why do you need a thermostat for heating? Our grandparents managed well without him and did not suffer at all...

Saving

Remember what rent was like in your grandparents' time? At the end of the seventies, in a two-room apartment on Far East, where the author grew up, it was approximately 15 rubles. In winter, along with heating and electricity.

For comparison: junior salary research fellow at the local institute then was approximately 120 rubles. Average salary in the city, thanks to the northern and regional coefficient- more than two hundred. It never occurred to anyone to worry about the two or three rubles they overpaid for excess heat: it was easier to open the window.

However: even at the project level, all radiators were equipped with the great-grandfather of current thermostats - a three-way valve. It made it possible to reduce the coolant flow through the radiator by completely or partially directing the water flow to the jumper.

Now most of the state’s initiatives come down to two main theses:

  1. Citizens don't need this.
  2. And they must pay for this themselves.

There are no more subsidies for housing maintenance, housing and communal services are in decline, rents are rising, but we... adapt as best we can.

Thermostats for heating radiators in combination with heat meters are one of the ways to reduce the cost of heating your home. Heat is consumed exactly as much as is necessary to maintain a comfortable temperature at home. Not more.

Convenience

Yes, thermostats are not the only tool with which you can save heat. Heating radiators can also be adjusted manually - using a throttle or a regular valve.

But, as usual, there are nuances:

  • The throttle regulates the passage of the line. When the temperature of the coolant fluctuates, the heat transfer of the heating device will also change.
  • Heat demand varies depending on the outside temperature. Manually adjusting the flow of a throttle or valve several times a day is somewhat tedious.

An alternative to a throttle, a thermostat is a fully automatic and weather-sensitive heating regulator. If the room becomes hot due to the rising temperature of the water in the radiator, it will reduce the flow of water through it.

If it gets cold, it will open slightly. And all this will happen without your participation.

Principle of operation

There are an infinite number of specific implementations of heating controllers. It is based on only two basic principles of regulation.

Mechanical regulator

Let's see how the Danfoss RAW-K 5030 thermostatic head works.

  • The mechanism is based on a container containing liquid or gas with a high coefficient of thermal expansion. The container tends to press the valve, blocking the flow of water; it is opposed by a conventional spring.
  • Rough adjustment is carried out using a simple screw mechanism. The closer the initial position of the temperature-sensitive element is to the valve, the less travel it needs to shut off the flow of water.
  • In addition, many thermostats for heating radiators include an additional adjustment mechanism - a simple throttle. It helps to calibrate the thermostat so that the scale of conventional values on it corresponds to real temperatures in the range from 7 to 28 degrees.

However: precise adjustment can be made with an ordinary throttle mounted on a second supply to the heating device, free from the thermostat.

The same principle is used, by the way, by an automatic draft regulator for solid fuel boilers. The problem of discrepancy between the damper stroke and changing the size of the heat-sensitive container is solved extremely simply - by using a lever with arms of different lengths.

Electrical regulator

All electric heating thermostats use the ability of some materials to change their characteristics when the temperature changes.

Of course, in in this case we're talking about about electrical characteristics:

  • The thermistor changes its resistance as the temperature changes. Accordingly, at a constant voltage, more or less current will flow through it. This is how, for example, the heater fan speed controller often works. With low power consumption, all current can flow directly through the thermistor.

A more complex circuit, however, will make it possible to control larger currents. This is how the VRT 40 room heating regulator from Vaillant works: with a current through the thermistor of a fraction of an ampere, it can control an electric boiler with a power of tens of kilowatts.

  • The thermocouple is an even more interesting device. If two plates made of different metals are soldered together - for example, nichrome and an aluminum-nickel alloy - a potential difference will arise at the junction. Moreover, it will change dynamically with fluctuations in the temperature of the adhesion point.

The resulting current will be in the millivolt range and is not sufficient by itself to move any valve; however, that's what transistors are for. The control signal can be as small as desired and still control large currents.

A cascade of transistors will theoretically allow an ordinary thermocouple to control the heat supply not only to a radiator, but even to an entire apartment building.

At general principle The operation of electrical thermostats can be analog or digital. The former only allow simplest setup temperatures and are most often equipped with a simple indicator combined with a control - a wheel with a scale. The latter can not only set the current temperature, but also be programmed for a day or a week.

In addition, digital indicators are divided into two more categories:

  • Devices with closed logic allow only setting basic parameters within the factory firmware. They are relatively easy to set up, but have limited capabilities by the manufacturer. A typical example is the Calormatic 430 automatic heating controller from Vaillant.

  • Open logic devices can be completely reprogrammed. Instead of the so-called one-time chips - non-erasable microcircuits with firmware - they are equipped with regular flash memory with an open interface.

These devices are rarely used in heating systems of private houses: they are difficult to set up and high price scare away buyers. But the capabilities of a heating thermostat with open logic are impressive.

Here is a list of functions of the Ukrainian heating regulator Takeoff RO-2:

  • Temperature regulation taking into account the thermal inertia of the building.
  • Calculation temperature chart, compensating for sharp fluctuations in outside temperature.
  • Protection of the heating network from overloads by rationing hot water consumption.
  • Construction of a temperature chart for administrative buildings, taking into account their operating modes.
  • Calculation of coolant consumption in accordance with the current agreement with the heat supplier.

It's easier to say what this thermostat can't do. In addition, if required additional functions— it can be reflashed.

Installation rules

Thermostatic heads

If heating radiators with a thermostat are supplied ready for connection, then a thermostat purchased separately must also be installed.

How to do it yourself correctly?

  • The installation method itself is no different from assembling others. threaded connections. Do not forget about the fragility of the brass body: when assembling threaded connections, avoid great force. The best winding for threads, which is easy to find in any store, is plumbing linen; to make it more durable, soak a strand of flax with any paint.
  • The thermostat for heating radiators is always located on the supply line. On the return line, it would be a great idea to embed a valve that allows you to completely cut off the heating device. If the thermostatic head does not have a throttle built into it for manual calibration, the valve can be replaced with a separate throttle.

Attention: the presence of a jumper when installing ANY throttle or thermostat is mandatory. Without it, you will regulate the flow of the riser or the entire heating circuit of a private house.

  • In the case of a two-pipe heating system, the use of chokes is mandatory. They are needed to balance the circuit: the batteries closest to the boiler or elevator will have to be pressed, reducing the coolant flow through them. Otherwise, distant radiators simply will not heat up - even to the point of defrosting in extreme cold.

Balancing is performed with the thermostatic heads fully open (maximum temperature value on the dial). Only after all heating devices begin to heat up to approximately the same temperature can the thermostats be adjusted and calibrated.

  • If you are installing a heating system in a one-story private house, best choice The Leningradka will become a single-pipe circuit around the perimeter of the house, parallel to which, without disconnecting it, heating devices are installed.

The connection diagram is bottom or diagonal. A choke is installed on one of the connections (balancing is not necessary here, but is desirable). The second one is the thermostat.

  • The head is usually placed horizontally. What is the instruction related to? The fact is that when installed vertically, the heat-sensitive element will often fall into the flow of hot air rising from the radiator. It is clear that its temperature will have little to do with AVERAGE temperature in the room.

Electronic regulators

Installation rules depend on where the temperature sensor of the regulator is located.

If it is built into the control panel, it must be mounted in accordance with quite understandable restrictions:

  • The height above the floor is at least 80 centimeters. Close to the floor the temperature is noticeably lower. Especially when the window or door to the hallway is open.
  • Outside of rising air currents from any heating devices and generally heating structures. Heat from the back of the refrigerator will affect sensor calibration just as much as a radiator.
  • Direct Sun rays will also affect the operation of the device. Place the sensor panel in the shade.
  • Finally, it would be unwise to locate the electronic control panel where the wall is often touched by people passing nearby.

If the thermostat uses a remote sensor, all points except the last one will relate specifically to the location of the sensor. The panel is mounted where it is convenient for you.

Conclusion

In the video at the end of the article you can become more familiar with some types of thermostats and the rules for their installation. Installation requirements may differ quite markedly from manufacturer to manufacturer, so be sure to read the instructions.

Article 300662 Manufacturer VAILLANT Units of measurement pcs Mechanical control Weekly programming - Daily programming - Display - Battery indicator - Temperature regulator yes Frost protection - Temperature and time indicator -

On-off regulator VRT 40 from Vaillant is a device for regulating air temperature in a building. The most important difference for this model is quality and reliability. Due to the lack of a display, energy costs are reduced, making these devices a great way to save money.

Thermostat Vaillant VRT 40 - this is very important element in heating systems. The regulator helps reduce the money spent on heating and prevents the water heating device from wearing out. For example, if you purchased a heating boiler with a capacity many times greater than is necessary to warm up your area, the heating boiler will constantly turn on and off. This reduces the service life of hot water boilers, and indeed the entire heating system. This can be easily explained - everything heating boilers initially equipped with automation, this automation is triggered based on the temperature of the water in the pipes. Boilers equipped with excessive power heat the house to the required limit much faster than necessary, and then turn off. But during the period while the heated coolant enters the radiator through the pipes, it cools down quickly enough and the temperature sensor again gives a signal to the heating boiler to turn on, and longer in a circle.

But if you install a room thermostat and turn it on in the system, the water heating boiler will read the temperature in the air, and not in the heating system, due to the sensor installed in the thermostat. Thus, the boiler will work at those moments when the room becomes cooler.

Also in heating systems there are circulation pumps that operate constantly, and this does not depend on whether the burner in the heating boiler is on or not. Because circulation pumps rely on electricity, they use a large number of energy, and if you calculate the expenses for the whole heating season, it turns out to be an impressive amount. A room regulator can also cope with this problem; when the set temperature is reached, it turns off not only the water heating boiler, but also the pump. All this significantly reduces the cost of not only electricity, but also gas, and also extends the service life of your equipment.

In addition, thanks to room regulators Vaillant VRT 40. there is no need to spend so much time near the boiler, because when it comes cold season you need to keep the water heating boiler under control and adjust the temperature of the coolant over a long period of time in order to understand when the heated air will become comfortable. Almost all room thermostats are adjustable mechanically, using the rotation button, through which you can clearly view the set temperature. The Vaillant VRT 40 thermostat is equipped with two on/off positions and smooth switching between temperature marks. The regulator is connected to the boiler using three wires (3-4-5), as well as an electrical cord connected to a 230 V network.
