Chicken manure as fertilizer how to apply in the fall. Infusion of chicken manure for fertilizing tomatoes

Perhaps one of the most popular organic fertilizers for the garden and vegetable garden was, is and will be chicken manure. It is popular not only because of its special beneficial properties, but also because it is always at hand, and even if a dozen chickens do not walk around your yard, you can easily find this product in the store at a very pleasant price. Today we will talk about how chicken manure is used, talk about its properties and features in use.

The composition and benefits of chicken manure in the garden

It is not for nothing that for so many years chicken manure has been occupying a leading position as one of the highest quality organic fertilizers.

Did you know?In terms of its composition, chicken manure is much better and healthier than cow dung.

The composition of chicken manure is quite rich:
  • water - 50-70%;
  • phosphoric acid - 1.5-2%;
  • nitrogen - 0.7-1.9%;
  • lime - 2.4%;
  • potassium oxide - 0.8-1%;
  • magnesium - 0.8%
  • sulfur - 0.5%.

In addition to these elements, the litter still contains a large amount organic matter that stimulate active plant growth:

  • copper;
  • manganese;
  • zinc;
  • cobalt;
  • auxins.
There is more phosphorus and potassium in chicken manure than in large livestock manure, and the effect of chicken manure remains much longer after the first use than from other similar fertilizers. This long-term effect is explained by the fact that minerals from chicken manure are removed slowly and gradually. The benefit of chicken manure is also in the fact that to some extent it also plays an antibacterial role and reduces the risk of plant diseases, and due to the high water content, chicken manure helps the plant survive periods of drought.

How to properly collect chicken droppings

Before using chicken manure in the garden, it must be properly collected.

Important!If chicken manure can only be collected with a bedding made from natural materials, such as corn, peat or straw, then you can also use it, chicken manure will not lose its properties.

Chicken droppings, despite all their usefulness for plants, can be quite harmful to humans if handled incorrectly. It contains large amounts of methane and ammonia, which is why it is necessary to use gloves, a respirator and a protective suit when collecting and working with it. Also, care must be taken because there are a huge number of helminths in chicken droppings. Chicken droppings can be collected at any time except in winter. Collect chicken droppings with a scoop / shovel, then "rake in" the place where the manure was collected and, trying not to touch the ground, collect it, folding it into a wheelbarrow. After the chicken droppings have been collected, it must be dried.

How to properly store chicken droppings

Before we tell you how to use bird droppings in your vegetable garden or garden, we will learn how to properly store the fertilizer. It is best to store chicken manure "in a heap": you can do this either at ground level, or you can dig a hole. The pit should be 2-3 meters wide and 1 meter deep. At the bottom of this hole, a layer of leaves, wood waste or straw is laid.

Did you know?If the pit is deeper than 1 meter, there will be less oxygen, microorganisms will die, and after that the droppings will sour.

The pile should be well tamped and not loose; you should not be afraid to do this, because chicken droppings are not prone to "caking".

It is better to place such a pile away from a residential building, a well or a reservoir. Elevations and shade are best for placement. If you decide to keep the droppings in a box, then from time to time you need to sprinkle it with superphosphate (powder).

How to feed chicken manure

There are many ways to prepare chicken manure fertilizer; we'll talk about the most common and simple ones. For preparation, you can use both "home" droppings and fertilizer purchased in the store.

Did you know?Chicken manure is almost never used in its pure form, as it can harm plants due to its high ammonia content.

How to make an infusion of chicken droppings

Chicken manure infusion is highly popular among gardeners, not only because of its availability, but also because of its ease of preparation and speed of action. There are two ways to make a chicken dung infusion. If you bought chicken manure in granules, then the algorithm of action will be as follows:

  1. Pour the manure into a barrel and fill it with water.
  2. Leave to ferment for 2 weeks.
  3. Dilute 1:20 with water.

This fertilizer must be used very carefully: 0.5 liters per plant. If the smell coming from the container bothers you, then 300-350 g of copper sulfate can be added to the solution, it will destroy the unpleasant odor.

If you use house manure, then you can make an infusion from it as follows: scoop up the required amount of raw materials (chicken droppings) with a scoop and mix in a container with water. We leave this solution for a day, and then, pouring into a watering can, we use it. In order for the production to be waste-free, the thickest part remaining at the bottom can be used as fertilizer for larger plants. After the procedure with a decoction of chicken droppings, the plants must be "rinsed" with clean water, especially the leaves. The infusion can be kept for 3 days at a temperature of 20 ° C.

How to make humus based on chicken droppings

Quite often you can hear that manure and humus are one and the same. I would like to dispel this myth: these are two different things. Humus is well-settled and rotted manure. Chicken manure humus is an excellent fertilizer that is sold in abundance at flower shops and can also be prepared on your own.

The process of cooking humus is quite lengthy, and many ways have been invented for this. Usually the manure is placed in a compost bin or compost pit and covered on top. Roofing material, strong film, all kinds of shields are suitable for shelter. It is important that the box is ventilated, or, if we are talking about a compost pit, then there should be small openings in the shelter for air to enter.

Did you know?It's okay if the rain flows under the shelter - the main thing is that the water does not penetrate deep into the mass.

Humus is "prepared" for one and a half to two years and shows its "readiness" by its appearance: the consistency will become friable, the color is uniform, and the volume will decrease several times. If you want to speed up ripening, then in the summer you can turn it a little with a pitchfork and supplement with humus with preparations "Baikal", "Shining-3" and others.

Application of chicken manure

The use of chicken manure is a rather ancient tradition. Gardeners have long been talking about its benefits for garden and horticultural plants. How to use chicken manure in your garden and vegetable garden - read on.

How to fertilize trees and bushes with chicken droppings

Chicken droppings in any form are suitable for fertilizing trees and shrubs. Better, of course, to use home litter, because store fertilizer can "cost a pretty penny." For one adult tree, you will need about one bucket of chicken manure-based feeding in the warm season. Throughout the season, you can re-feed the trees using litter (droppings mixed with peat or any other material where the content of pure droppings is much lower). As for the bushes, it is better to feed them exclusively with litter and in accordance with the requirements of the plant. The litter serves as a good fertilizer, because it can also act as a mulch, which will protect the plant roots from freezing, and due to the fact that such fertilizer decomposes rather slowly, all nutrients enter the plant little by little and gradually.

Important!After using the fertilizer, the main component of which is chicken manure, you need to let it lie down and gradually absorb, and during the fertilization procedure, it is important not to get on the leaves of the plant, in order to avoid satiety or burns.

Fertilizing vegetables

Chicken manure for the garden is an excellent tool for growing healthy and quality crops. For vegetables that are harvested several times per season, chicken droppings are ideal, but should be used with care. For feeding undersized crops, it is better not to use fresh compost or humus. In this case, it is better to fertilize the plant with liquid fertilizing, but in such a way that the solution does not get on the leaves and directly on the root. Garlic and onions can be fed with poultry manure only at the beginning of the season and only once. Potatoes are best fertilized with chicken droppings using the litter method. Tomatoes and peppers must also be fertilized very carefully: chicken droppings contain a large number of microorganisms that can cause many diseases, so it is better to feed the soil before you plant the plants (several months).

Prepared by: Alexey Stepanov, ecologist

Chicken manure is very popular as a fertilizer. After all, poultry is kept both in private houses and in summer cottages, so many gardeners always have it at hand.

In addition, poultry manure is considered one of the most valuable. The chemical composition of this top dressing is rich in nutrients. In it contains nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus and magnesium, moreover, the concentration of these nutrients is 3-4 times higher than in other natural fertilizers of animal origin.

Chicken droppings affect the harvest in almost the same way as complex mineral fertilizing. Possesses a pronounced aftereffect within 2-3 years after application... This is because the beneficial substances from poultry droppings are released slowly and gradually.

Basic rules for using chicken manure:

For direct application, this fertilizer cannot be used fresh, as it contains a lot of uric acid, which can "burn" the roots of plants.

It contains several times more nitrogen and phosphorus than, for example, cow dung. To reduce excessive concentration of these substances, it is necessary to leave the droppings outdoors for a long time. The excess will evaporate, and the resulting residue can be used for its intended purpose.

Fresh excrement can be used to make liquid fertilizer... Infusion of chicken manure is prepared in a proportion of 1 part to 20 liters. water. The resulting mixture should be kept in the open air for 10 days. The resulting solution should be shed aisles.

This mixture cannot be poured into the holes and under the roots. Feeding with chicken manure infusion is best done after prolonged watering or heavy rain.

From the original product of the life of birds make compost... The droppings are placed on a foliage substrate and, as well as the remains of garden plants, mixed with the ground. The temperature of the heap is very high, so the recycling process is very fast.

Proof of the great heat generated by composting is the fact that chicken coops are not heated in winter. A pillow of bird droppings, in which chemical reactions with the release of methane take place, maintains a comfortable temperature in the room, heating it.

The compost laid in the fall will be ready for spring planting, since all the excess will be removed from it along with the evaporated ammonia.

In order to reduce the effects of uric acid and toxins from metabolic reactions of the waste products of birds, it is recommended to mix the droppings with sawdust or straw, and in this form lay out along the grooves between the plants. Sorbent substances will absorb excess liquid and keep it in place. And more nutrients, especially nitrogen, will get into the soil. This mixture is prepared in a 3: 1 ratio (sawdust, straw / droppings).

How to prepare a liquid top dressing?

Fermentation

Large poultry farms process excrement in this way. But now it has become available to private owners, with the sale of special preparations to accelerate fermentation, which significantly simplified the process of preparing fertilizer from poultry manure.

This method is based on the idea of chemical catalysis of organic substances. It is implemented using fairly simple methods. A special tray is placed under the bird cage, in which the processed products of the bird's vital activity are accumulated. Periodically, sawdust, pre-treated with a fermentation accelerator, is poured into the heap. When cleaning the pallet, all components are mixed and piled up. When it reaches a height of 1-1.5 meters, it is additionally watered with EM or UV accelerator again.

After that, the resulting mixture is kept outdoors for 30 days (in summer), and twice as long in winter (at low temperatures, the decomposition reaction slows down). The dried substrate can be applied immediately, it does not contain helminth eggs, weed seeds, and does not smell.

Infusion

This fertilizer has received very high marks from gardeners. It acts quickly, as it contains a lot of nitrogen, and if you water the plants with it as a top dressing, the result becomes noticeable after a couple of weeks.

He prepares quickly. Overripe poultry manure is poured with water, mixed, left for 2-3 days. The color of the resulting mixture should be similar to that of a very weakly brewed tea. If the shade is richer, then the chicken manure infusion must be diluted to the required concentration.

Soaking

Sometimes bird droppings are soaked to get rid of excess acid that is harmful to plants. To do this, it is poured with water for two days, then it is drained, and fresh is added. The soaking procedure is repeated several times. In the process of reaction with H2O, excess toxins and uric acid are removed from this highly concentrated organic fertilizer.

After finishing the treatment, the resulting substrate can be fed to the plants, but not under the root, but by burying the manure in the grooves around the trunk circle, or in the aisles.

Precautions for handling chicken droppings:

This product contains a large amount of helminth eggs in its raw form, therefore, protective work clothes and rubber gloves must be used for all manipulations.

When working with dry chicken droppings, you should take precautions and wear a protective mask, as it contains a large number of pathogenic microorganisms for humans.

  1. For autumn plowing - 2 kg / m² of fresh manure;
  2. In the planting pits - from 10 kg in one rotted litter;
  3. Under fruit trees - fermented slurry of the color of very well diluted tea at the rate of 0.5 liters. in one near-barrel circle; or 2 kg of rotted bird feces.

It is not easy to grow this southern culture in central Russia, but it is possible. You need to carefully consider the needs of this plant, and everything will work out.

The grapes love heavy clay soils. On them, he gives the highest yields. Another prerequisite for its cultivation is the presence of supports, and good protection of the vines from the wind.

But even if all of the above requirements are met, it must be remembered that in the middle zone without additional stimulating nutrition, this culture is doomed. Only in the presence of a large supply of vitality, which the plant draws from macronutrients, is it able to withstand cold winters, and have time to give the harvest in a shortened summer period.

The vineyard is usually fertilized in a complex manner, both with mineral fertilizers and organic... The supply of nutrients introduced in the year of planting is usually sufficient for several years. But mature plants need to be fed additionally. This is done several times per season, throughout the growing season.

An ideal source of beneficial elements for grapes can be feeding chicken droppings. To use it, it is necessary to dig grooves between the bushes at a distance of 50-60 cm from the base of the vine, and add either rotted bird manure or its liquid form into them. A similar event is held once a season. Subsequently, it is necessary to feed the plants with potassium and phosphorus () fertilizers throughout the growing season. It is also necessary to carry out foliar (by leaves) feeding of grapes twice.

Tomato

Chicken manure as a fertilizer is suitable for a variety of crops. But the nightshades will be especially happy with him. It is difficult to find the best organic tomato feed for tomatoes.

Poultry manure application rates for:

  • In spring, 3-4 kg / m² are applied in the form of dry compost;
  • Throughout the growing season, in the form of infusion, add 5-6 liters per m².

But there is a subtlety to which you need to pay close attention - follow the foliage of the tomatoes. If, after feeding, the green mass begins to grow rapidly, the leaves have become overly fleshy, the stems too thick, you should stop. Signor tomato received too many nutrients, and began to use them for other purposes, to the detriment of the coming harvest.

In this situation, you need to take a break for at least ten days, and then carry out only foliar feeding with natural organic matter. To prepare the optimal composition, you can dilute the ash with water. Thanks to the elements contained in it, the fertilizer will help to normalize the metabolism in the plant.

Cucumbers

This culture is very responsive to feeding. To get a good harvest, you need to carry them out several times per season.

The first feeding is carried out at the stage of 2-3 leaves. During this period, all the nutrient needs of young plants will be satisfied by ready-made mineral fertilizers, such as double superphosphate.

The second feeding is carried out with chicken droppings. Potassium sulfate is added to the finished humus, and diluted with water, receiving a liquid fertilizer. Dilution rules are standard - the resulting solution should have the color of weakly brewed tea.

It is best to add this mixture to the soil before the beginning of the flowering of cucumbers. It will stimulate the formation of ovaries, and the number of barren flowers will be minimal.

Not all vegetables can fully meet their nutritional needs with poultry droppings alone. , for example, it is necessary to additionally supplement with potassium chloride, in a ratio of 1:10 (potassium / litter). And this example is not unique. The best results for all crops (vegetables, berries, cereals) are achieved with a reasonable and competent combination of mineral and natural fertilizers.

Purchased chicken droppings

If you don't have a bird in your summer cottage (apart from the rare crows and jackdaws, which apply fertilizer pointwise, and in insufficient quantities), then you can use the finished product that is on sale. This is hot-dried chicken manure, or peat fertilizers, also made on the basis of this organic matter. For instance, you can buy such mixes as "Piksa", "Roossis", and some others.

Unlike a natural product, they do not contain harmful microorganisms and have a constant composition. The range of application of these ready-made dressings is much wider than that of their progenitor. In industrially processed chicken manure, you can soak seeds before planting, water seedlings, apply to any kind of soil in spring, and feed fertilizers throughout growth.

Another type of this fertilizer that you can buy in the store is ... It has a number of advantages over a natural product.... It is convenient for transportation, does not smell, it does not contain weed seeds, larvae, worm eggs.

  1. This poultry manure can be used as fertilizer for all types of plants and is immediately ready for use.
  2. Granules can be applied to the soil dry, from 100 to 300 kg / m2, or diluted with water.

Which bird droppings can be used as fertilizer?

Pigeon droppings

This fertilizer has been familiar to gardeners and gardeners of the middle lane for a long time. The rules of use for pigeon droppings are the same as for chicken... It cannot be used fresh, but it can be infused, soaked, composted. For fertilization, it is advisable to use manure only from home pigeons, where the bird is fed with natural grain mixtures.

It is undesirable to use urban pigeon droppings, although it is easily accessible (in the attic of any skyscraper, you can collect a couple of centners). The fact is that these birds feed mainly on garbage dumps, and, accordingly, their waste contains a huge amount of harmful substances.

Quail droppings

It is believed that chicken manure is the most useful fertilizer. But this is not the case. There are less common dressings, the action of which is effective surpasses chicken droppings.

For example, these are quail waste. They are very economical, as a bucket of manure comes out on the feed bucket. This fertilizer does not contain worm eggs, because the body temperature of quails is higher than that of chickens, and for example, it kills the salmanulosis bacteria. Therefore, the eggs of these birds can be eaten raw.

Quail manure is less toxic than chicken manure and contains more organic matter due to the feeding habits of these birds.

Goose droppings

Has a different composition from chicken. This feature is due to the fact that the goose is a waterfowl, and its diet includes many different elements of plants from water bodies. For example, mud, duckweed and so on. This makes his droppings similar in composition to guano, waste products of seabirds.

It is healthier than chicken, as it contains more trace elements, and is easier for plants to absorb. Macronutrients are contained in this fertilizer in a proportion different from the fertilizer obtained from chicken manure.

Differences in the use of poultry manure from different bird species are insignificant. Pigeon, goose and quail droppings are somewhat better in terms of consumer qualities than chicken droppings, but it is almost impossible to buy them.

In connection with the above, the leadership remains with chicken manure. It has a number of disadvantages, for example, increased toxicity, the inability to use it immediately after receipt, and an unpleasant odor. But on the other hand, this top dressing is a storehouse of useful substances, and surpasses other types of manure in their quantitative content. By using poultry manure as a fertilizer, high consistent yields can be obtained from all plant species.

Kira Stoletova

A rich harvest always directly depends on the condition of the soil. Today, when the stores are full of products of dubious chemical composition, organic feeding has become very popular, and chicken manure as a fertilizer is in the leading positions. Each owner strives to make his farm waste-free, especially when he begins to breed chickens. Making the most of all the products obtained, including fertilizer from poultry manure, is the key to a successful and productive economy.

Benefits for plants

The chemical composition of chicken manure includes all the necessary micro- and macroelements for the full life of plants. In the composition of fertile soil, the concentration of organic matter should be at least 60%. Chicken manure has a high content of iron, calcium, potassium permanganate, sulfur, zinc salts, copper and boron. Elements such as molybdenum and cobalt are especially appreciated in the composition.

Fertilizer from fresh chicken manure has a number of advantages that made it the most popular today:

  • easy solubility in liquid;
  • the ability to have a beneficial effect on the soil for 3 years;
  • easy digestibility of the composition by the root system;
  • enrichment of the earth with beneficial microorganisms - worms, which also have a positive effect on the condition of the soil, passing it through themselves.

What can be used for

For all the usefulness of organic matter, it is necessary to clearly understand how to fertilize the garden with chicken droppings and in what dosages to use it. Not every plant will grow better with this kind of feeding. For example, some types of vegetables can change their taste characteristics. A small amount of chicken droppings can make the beets sweeter, but if you overdo it, the root vegetable will become dense and wiry.

Feeding from chicken droppings is best taken by nightshade plants: bell peppers, eggplants and others. It is recommended to fertilize them with organic matter at the beginning of the growing season, in spring. You can not feed the plants after the formation of the ovary, otherwise the fruits will ripen for a long time. Melons, cucumbers and cabbage are excellent organic. It is possible to significantly improve the taste of strawberries if feeding with chicken droppings is carried out constantly.

Fruit trees and shrubs need feeding 2 times during the whole season. If you put fertilizer in the pits when planting plants, you can provide them with useful substances for at least two years.

Fertilize onions and garlic before growing. If you do this later, the ground part will grow, and the root crop will not gain mass.

Pros and cons

Only by studying all the information on how to use chicken manure in the country can you get the highest possible yield. The use of chicken manure has both advantages and disadvantages. Among the obvious advantages are:

  • accelerated growth process;
  • improving the structural composition of the soil;
  • improving the quality of the crop;
  • wireworm protection.

Incorrect processing of real chicken manure can lead to the loss of some plants, vegetables and fruit trees, as a result of the dissolution of the root system under the influence of salts. Excessive fertilization of root crops slows down the growth of the underground part, and on the ground, on the contrary, accelerates, as a result of which one tops can be obtained. Almost all chickens are not resistant to infection with worms, therefore, after such fertilization, the risk of infection or other infectious diseases increases.

Organic preparation

Before applying fertilizer from chicken manure, it must be properly collected and stored. In winter, chickens in the poultry house are kept on a solid litter, it is advisable to use sawdust for this purpose. In spring, bird droppings are removed from the coop and used as fertilizer along with sawdust. When chickens are kept closed in cage batteries, droppings are removed from the trays every day.

When harvesting organic matter, you should strictly follow the safety rules in order to avoid poisoning with ammonia vapors. The bad smell of feces is caused by the decomposition of certain substances that can cause an infectious disease in a person. In addition, you need to protect yourself from infection with helminths. To collect the droppings, you will need protective clothing:

  • respirator;
  • latex gloves;
  • the most closed clothing.

At the end of the procedure, the entire instrument must be treated with a disinfectant. Clothes should be washed and ironed after drying. The excrement is added to compost or dried. If you plan to use feces immediately after collection, then make an infusion of chicken droppings or bring it directly into the ground.

It is harvested according to the same principle, and then packaged in packs. On large poultry farms, pestles are kept in long cage batteries. The process of collecting their waste products is fully automated there. After collection, the excrement is immediately sent for drying.

In what form should organic matter be

How to use chicken manure as fertilizer how to apply? litter is a highly concentrated compound, therefore it is practically not used in its pure form. Most often, an infusion is made from it. Feces collected with the litter can be applied directly to the soil. Before fertilizing the ground with diluted chicken droppings, you should figure out how to make the right fertilization and what is the optimal dosage of organic matter for certain types of plants.

The most popular organic compounds are infusion and compost. the solution is made immediately after the feces have been collected, and the plants are watered. In the form of compost, manure can be stored at home for a very long time. Often there is litter in this composition, so before use it needs to lie down for a while so that it has time to decompose and release enzymes.

how to breed chicken droppings correctly? The solution from the litter must be diluted in the following proportions:

  • take a bucket, feces and water;
  • dilute the droppings with water in a ratio of 0.5: 10;
  • infuse the mixture for at least 3 days, if necessary, increase the time to 5 days.

Such a product is a very concentrated product, therefore, before watering the plants, it must be diluted 1:10 with water. Dry manure in granules, just like fresh manure, should be soaked in water, and only then watering should be carried out. It is not recommended to use in concentrated form. Composting involves preliminary preparation of top dressing in the fall.

Compost is the only product that allows you to preserve fertilizer for a long time and convert food waste into useful fertilizing. It is not just about a certain number of days, but even about months. You can put food leftovers under heaps of compost, as a result, in the spring you will get an excellent means for feeding.

In order to store compost, you need to prepare a pit in advance, no more than a meter deep. In a too deep tank, it will not work to get good fertilizer: it will simply turn sour there, as a result, the compost will not only be unhelpful, but may even become dangerous, its introduction into the ground is strictly contraindicated. Peat is placed at the bottom of the compost pit, and then food waste and chicken feces are laid out in layers.

How and when to use organic

The use of droppings as top dressing is widespread among the owners of private farms in which broilers are bred. The introduction of dry humus follows during the digging of the garden in the fall, when the entire crop has already been harvested, to improve the structural composition of the soil. Strawberries, raspberries, and fruit trees are fertilized twice a year. Top dressing of apple trees, cherries, plums is done during flowering, during the period of active movement of the juice along the crown.

To fertilize the grapes, ditches are made between the rows of plants at a distance of 50 cm from the rhizomes, into which humus is laid or a solution of droppings and water is poured. Tomatoes are fertilized when planting seedlings. Humus is placed directly into the hole. Cucumbers are very fond of humus feeding. The feeding scheme for cucumbers shows how many times you need to do this, and consists of two stages:

  • the first - when the leaves appear;
  • the second is watering with a solution of droppings.

For potatoes, the best option for laying top dressing in the spring, before planting. Carrots are fertilized according to the same scheme. When growing currants, fertilization with droppings is carried out according to a certain scheme. Fruiting of currants occurs 2-3 years after planting. In the first year, currant bushes are not fertilized. They begin to make droppings in the spring, and finish exactly one year later. In combination with the first two fertilizing with humus, currant bushes need to be fertilized with nitrogen.

When growing indoor plants, bird droppings are also widespread. Most often, granular droppings are used for such purposes. It needs to be soaked in water for breeding, and then water the plant or put it in its original form in a pot during planting. In order for the roses to grow better in the country, in the summer they can be watered several times with a solution from the droppings or scattered dry product next to the bush and fluff the ground.

What feces are suitable for harvesting

When preparing humus at home, you need to pay attention to the color and structure of the droppings. Parameter changes can be evidence. Before starting composting, you should pay attention to the following parameters:

The normal color of feces in chickens can range from green to brown. The data described above will be evidence of the disease only in conjunction with other symptoms accompanying this or that ailment. If, in addition to changes in the structure and color of the stool, secondary signs were noted, it is necessary to urgently contact the veterinarian so that the chickens are prescribed appropriate treatment. In this case, manure cannot be used as fertilizer: it is poisonous. The color of the droppings will change depending on what the hen eats.

The longer the solution will stand for itself, the higher its concentration will be. Do not forget to dilute it with water, otherwise you can burn the rhizomes of the plants. The shelf life of compost or slurry is one year. After this time, the beneficial elements begin to lose their properties, and acidity begins to increase in the wet mixture.

Final part

From any birds on the farm, waste products remain, which can be successfully used as fertilizer for plants. So the answer to the question of whether it is possible to fertilize plants with chicken droppings is definitely yes. This is evidenced by the reviews of gardeners, who assure that chicken droppings are good enough for introducing it into the ground. The main thing in this matter is to know the peculiarities of using the product, because the rules for roses and for beets will differ markedly from each other. Now there are many videos that can help you navigate how and which plant to feed is best.

In addition to the rules for application, a person must know how to properly collect and process poultry droppings. Fresh product in its pure form is not used for soil fertilization. On its basis, an infusion is made or a compost heap is laid. Often, in parallel with fertilization with feces, additional fertilization with nitrogen is carried out. For example, in the fertilization scheme for currant bushes, the use of nitrogen is mandatory.

Among the minuses, there is a high risk of infection with worms and salmonellosis. During the preparation of the fertilizer, special attention should be paid to the color. With changes in the shade and structural composition of the stool, you need to contact your veterinarian and find out what is the reason. Eating a lot of greens or beets can be one of the reasons for stool staining.

It is advisable to locate compost heaps away from residential buildings and poultry yards. Firstly, the smell of feces is unlikely to be pleasant to anyone, and secondly, chickens may begin to lay eggs in a dung heap. The beneficial properties of chicken manure allow it to be widely used as a fertilizer in the garden, in a greenhouse and even in an apartment. Its correct use has a good effect on the growth and taste of many plants, so, despite the disadvantages, there is no need to give up the idea of making your production waste-free.

Despite the wide range of chemical fertilizers, most gardeners traditionally prefer to use chicken humus as fertilizer. Such soil fertilization is very effective and at the same time absolutely natural and accessible.

Of course, every summer resident who pays a lot of attention to his garden wants to get the most satisfactory result of his labors. For this, it is important to take care of the fertilization of the earth.

Chicken humus as fertilizer and its advantages

Humus from chicken droppings is one of the most affordable ways to fertilize the soil for planting all kinds of garden crops. Such organic feeding contains the optimal composition of trace elements that can increase productivity: phosphorus, potassium, iron, magnesium, calcium, as well as many other important components. The richness of minerals significantly stimulates the growth of seedlings and promotes the rapid growth of fruits.

Feeding with chicken droppings is easily absorbed by plant roots, and due to the natural composition, the salt balance of the soil does not increase, and the waste product of birds is not washed out of the soil for a long time. Chicken manure is often used for the cultivation of various vegetables and fruits:

  • potato;
  • garlic;
  • Strawberry;
  • all kinds of garden trees.

You can also use chicken manure as a cucumber fertilizer. Although many summer residents are afraid to do this due to the fact that the plant is very sensitive to uric acids. However, the most important thing is not to overdo the concentration and frequency of the groundbait.

Preparing a solution from droppings

Before using humus, is it important to know how to properly fertilize chicken manure? First of all, it should be borne in mind that fresh and wet manure can adversely affect the state of the plant's root system. It is worth familiarizing yourself with how to prepare a solution, depending on the form in which the litter is used - wet, dry, or granular.

If desired, top dressing can be applied during plant growth, and not just before planting. In this case, it is best to take care of a sufficient amount of concentrated infusion in advance and periodically add it when watering. It is quite simple to prepare a concentrate: a suitable container of an impressive volume is half filled with humus, and filled with sufficient water. All contents are thoroughly mixed and settled in a warm place for several days. When the infusion is fermented it can be used as directed.

The concentrate, prepared in a 1: 1 ratio, does not decompose for a long time, and it can be used starting in spring and ending in autumn. It is very simple to use chicken compost as fertilizer: 0.5 - 1 l of the composition is diluted with the calculation for 10 l of water immediately before use.

Fertilizing the soil with already planted plants is necessary after rain or after waiting half an hour after normal watering.

How to use granulated chicken humus

If there is nowhere to get chicken manure in its natural form, you can purchase a granular prepackaged analogue. Its use has several advantages. First of all, it is worth considering that the granules have absolutely no smell, and also due to heat treatment, the presence of larvae and seeds is excluded in them. The advantages include the fact that you can store chicken manure in this form for much longer, up to six months. In natural form, manure quickly decomposes, losing nitrogen.

Granules can be used dry, but it is important that the roots of the plant do not touch the product. The easiest way is to scatter them over the area of the garden with a calculation of no more than 150 g per 1 m 2, and evenly distribute about 300 g of granules under bushes and trees.
You can also make a liquid solution. To add seedlings during planting, fertilizer should be made with the calculation of 1 part of granules, 50 parts of water. For further use, feeding vegetables with chicken droppings with already grown plants should be twice as less enriched composition - 1: 100.

Granular litter has no negative sides, moreover, now, in its production, some companies use a technology that does not provide for heating the product, which contributes to the preservation of all useful components.

Using rotted droppings

Dry manure can only be used when humus has been prepared in a compost pit. For this, manure is laid in layers with any plant waste, including weeds. It is permissible to alternate layers with other types of manure. It is only important to adhere to the 20 cm thickness of the individual layers, otherwise a fire may occur. Further, everything is covered with a dense film to prevent air penetration. will be ready in four months.

Whether or not the droppings can be overridden due to the absence of the characteristic smell of ammonia, if it is present, then the humus is not yet ready.

How to use chicken droppings in the garden

Chicken manure makes it possible to compensate for the deficiency of soil elements valuable for the harvest, which has a positive effect on the number of fruits and their taste. Many experienced gardeners in areas with heavy soil prefer to use chicken manure as fertilizer in the fall, when the crop has already been harvested. In this case, fresh manure is slightly moistened and distributed in an even layer over the entire territory of the garden. On 5 m 2, an average of 3-4 kg of fertilizer should be used. For such purposes, you can use rotted chicken humus. However, if it is too old, it is better not to use it. Thus, during the winter, under the influence of rains and melting snow, nutrients will evenly enrich the soil, and then it will no longer be possible to feed it before planting seedlings.

Feeding fruit trees with chicken droppings should also occur in autumn or early spring. Soil is dug around the tree and watered with a concentrated composition of manure. The use of fresh manure or pellets is allowed, if there is no direct contact with the roots of the tree.

A quick way to prepare the soil

In some situations, there may not be time to wait several days for the concentrate to infuse. It is dangerous to feed plants with fresh bird droppings, because this approach can completely deprive the summer resident of the harvest. In such cases, fertilization can be done more quickly. To feed seedlings with fresh manure, it is imperative to reduce its concentration. The most optimal solution would be a ratio of 1:15 or 1:20. The resulting composition is watered with each plant with a volume of about 0.5 liters.

In the future, after planting seedlings, it is undesirable to fertilize it in this way. The increased nitrogen content can burn the roots. Therefore, a settled infusion is better suited.

Sometimes fresh manure is used without dissolving it in water. In such cases, it is mixed in advance with earth, sand, or ash in approximately equal proportions. However, this approach is very risky and is not recommended.

The nuances of using chicken manure

In general, the procedure for fertilizing a vegetable garden with poultry manure is simple, but it has its own subtleties. Failure to comply with certain rules can have a detrimental effect on plants. After all, chicken manure has a high concentration of nitrogen. Basic rules of use:

  1. The soil is fertilized with manure only when there is no direct sunlight - in the early morning, in the evening, or when the sky is overcast.
  2. Before applying fertilizer to the soil, it must be sufficiently moistened.
  3. The ingress of solid fertilizer elements on the roots or leaves of plants is unacceptable.
  4. After applying the liquid composition, its residues should be washed off with water from the trunks and leaves.

For the entire season, the use of complementary foods based on litter is allowed no more than four times. In most cases, more than one application is sufficient when planting seedlings, and one when the plant has bloomed.

So, it is clear that the benefits of chicken droppings in the garden are quite high. Nevertheless, it is worth considering the possible disastrous consequences for the crop if this fertilizer is used ineptly.

Many gardeners and summer residents love to breed birds not only for obtaining eggs and meat, but also for organic fertilization. The most common and effective poultry manure is chicken. As a fertilizer, ordinary chicken manure has been widely used, despite the fact that it is not recommended to apply it in its pure form. Even indoor plants are fed to them. The article will answer the question: how can you fertilize with chicken droppings. The instructions for use, its properties, and the effect on pests will also be considered.

Chicken manure as a natural fertilizer

The waste product of domestic chickens is a valuable organic fertilizer. It is the most nutritious and concentrated poultry droppings. It even surpasses many mineral fertilizers. Using it, you can get a significant increase in yield of 20-40%. It is only necessary to correctly observe the dose of application.

Chicken droppings penetrate deep into the soil, is weakly washed out of it and does not saline. As a result of application in plants, resistance to many diseases is increased. The vortex improves in the soil and mold does not form on its surface. Plants tolerate dry conditions more easily.

Important! Of all poultry fertilizers, chicken contains the most nitrogen - 1.9%. It contains three times more phosphorus than manure.

Benefits of chicken manure as fertilizer:

  • environmentally friendly;
  • lower price compared to mineral fertilizers;
  • positively affects the properties of the soil, including acidity;
  • a long period of action, therefore, they are introduced most often once every 3 years;
  • harvesting 2 weeks earlier;
  • lack of toxic properties, well stored, does not cake;
  • there is no risk of fire;
  • plants improve their resistance to adverse environmental conditions;
  • introduced for almost all agricultural crops.

Note! Too frequent use can lead to accumulation of nitrates in the soil. In its pure form, it can be applied only in autumn, after complete harvesting.

Chicken droppings composition

Fertilizer is applied in dry and liquid form. The pH does not exceed 7.0.

The composition includes such chemical elements as: Mn, Cu, Co, Fe, N, K, Mg, B, S. Their number is variable and depends on various factors. Phosphorus is presented as an organic compound.

Poultry droppings purchased in specialized stores are dry and free-flowing in consistency. It is composed of 20% water, 5% N, 2% K2O and 4% P2O5.

Fresh contains fiber, proteins, fat.

Granular chicken manure: instructions for use

Litter in granules is a nutrient concentrate in which all nutrients are in a form readily available to plants. It is necessary to follow certain rules for mixing it with water, so as not to harm the plants. Granulators contain the whole range of useful micro and macro elements. Many crops can be fed with the granulated product.

Granular chicken droppings

In industry

In industrial conditions, the use of manure in granules occurs under the main tillage or locally during sowing. When applying granules as the main fertilizer, agronomists observe certain proportions - for each type of crops its own dose. For example, for rye and wheat per 1 ha, 500-1000 kg are needed, and for beets and potatoes - 2-3 tons. When applied during planting, the dose is reduced by a third. The correct dosage of fertilizer is the key to a good harvest.

For gardeners

Summer residents use granules in dry form or for preparing solutions.

Note! In dry form, it is applied as the main fertilizer up to 300 g per 1 m². The droppings should be covered with soil and not come into contact with roots or seeds. When sowing, the granules are placed in the wells.

Further dry dressing is carried out for fruit and berry crops at the rate of 300 g per plant. The granules are buried in the ground. For vegetables, open and closed ground, the dose is reduced by 2 times.

The best way to use granular fertilizer is to mix it with water. When preparing the solution, the ingredients are taken in a ratio of 1 to 50 for young plants and 1 to 100 for old ones. All this is stirred in a container, and the solution is left for a day in a dark place. The shelf life of the solution can be increased if the granules are mixed with peat beforehand.

  • The application rate for trees and shrubs (cherry, plum, currant) is 6 liters per 1 m².
  • Greenhouse vegetables (tomatoes, cucumbers) require 0.5-1 liters per plant.

Of the effective chicken droppings, Fasco's litter can be distinguished. To prepare a solution, it is necessary to dilute 400 g of granules in 10 ml of water. Then he needs to brew. Upon completion, 1 L of the solution is diluted with 10 L of water. The fertilizer is ready for use.

Is it possible to fertilize roses and other plants with chicken droppings

The use of this type of dressing for roses is allowed. However, this type of fertilizer is not very popular among flower growers. This is due to the ability to burn plants or add excess nitrogen. Therefore, the introduction of chicken droppings is carried out during periods when roses are in great need of nitrogen. Incorrect application will lead to a decrease in disease resistance. It is necessary to observe a strict dosage, otherwise exceeding the concentration will have a bad effect on the plants, which will lead to their oppression.

You can not feed young seedlings, as well as plants affected by diseases.

In addition to roses, other agricultural and decorative crops can be fertilized with the waste product of chickens. There are no specific contraindications.

Important! Chicken droppings have a good effect on the yield of grapes, potatoes, strawberries, tomatoes.

Chicken droppings from bear and other pests

Medvedka is a very vicious insect, which requires great efforts to exterminate. One of the folk remedies for fighting the bear is chicken droppings. The soil treated with this fertilizer has an increased concentration of nitrogen, which negatively affects the pest. Medvedka lives underground in burrows. Excess nitrogen makes it difficult for her to breathe, and she leaves this place.

Important! Cow dung has a completely different composition and, on the contrary, attracts a bear.

When fighting pests, do not forget about plants. Increased doses of nitrogen in the soil can adversely affect their growth and development. Chicken droppings will also be effective against other types of insects that live in the soil: wireworms, May beetle larvae, millipedes.

Chicken manure compost at home

To make it, fertilizer is mixed with straw, peat, sawdust, and vegetable waste. Fresh plants are not compostable.

For composting, take the same amount of manure and waste to make a wet mixture. For a week, all harmful bacteria die in it. You need to alternate layers like in a pie. First, straw or waste is put, sprinkled with droppings on top. The layer must be at least 20 cm. Thus, several layers are superimposed.

The composting temperature should not exceed 60 degrees Celsius. If it is higher, the process will slow down. After a week, you need to stir the mixture, as the temperature of the middle part will begin to drop. It is recommended to stir three times.

Compost can be applied when it has a sweet smell and dark color. It should not be wet, but loose.

Application of chicken humus in the country

Compost should be used together with water. 1 liter of compost is applied to an adult plant. Water in the morning or evening. Water the soil around the plant before composting.

Note! Top dressing is carried out once in the spring during the period of active growth and twice in the summer during the flowering period. When growing strawberries, the plants are fed only once. Green crops need feeding at the beginning of growth processes.

The resulting humus during composting is recommended to be applied in the fall as the main fertilizer. During the winter, it matures and in the spring it evenly distributes nutrients in the soil. At the same time, melt water will relieve excessive concentration.

When mixing chicken waste with sawdust and ash, the fertilizer efficiency increases. This is due to the neutralization of nitrogen effects.

Chicken manure is a potent organic fertilizer that can significantly increase the yield of agricultural crops, as well as their resistance to diseases and environmental conditions. The fertilizer contains all the necessary nutrients for the benefit of the plants. However, ignorance of the rules of use can lead to oppression of plants and loss of yield.
