Rhodes island in May. Holidays in Rhodes in May

Rhodes is the fourth largest island in Greece. If you want to see Greece as it is - with its nature and architecture, then Rhodes is what you need. Lush vegetation and famous white houses in the background blue sea- all this distinguishes this Greek island.

Rhodes is washed by two seas - the Mediterranean on one side (where most hotels are located) and the Aegean on the other. It is very popular here to rent a car (rental points are located literally on every corner). It will take 1-2 days to travel around the entire island. Here you can see many ancient buildings; in Lindos, for example, there is an ancient amphitheater of incredible beauty.

Arriving in Rhodes, the first thing we encountered was a very small airport, more like a train station in size, which could hardly cope with the number of tourists. Everything is very unorganized and slow. Upon arrival, we stood in line at passport control for about an hour, and flew back for about the same amount of time. The road from the airport to the hotel was also not close - about 1.5 hours. Although the plus is that the representative of the tour operator showed us good excursion on the way to the hotel.

Rodos Princess Beach Hotel 4*

Our choice fell on the Princess Beach Hotel 4* - one of the farthest from the airport. The hotel is family-type, most vacationers are families with children. The owner is Italian, and therefore most of the staff, including the animation team, are Italian. Everyone speaks English well and Russian poorly.

We lived in a two-story building on the edge of the territory. I really liked the room and the hotel itself - excellent sea view, large balcony, very clean. The room was cleaned daily. The hotel area is quite large, given the mountainous terrain, the hotel itself is located on a hill, you need to go down to the beach about ten minutes. There were two swimming pools near the hotel - one large, the other slightly smaller, with slides for children and adults.

Next to the main pool there is a good bar, as well as a mini-restaurant where you can get something to eat throughout the day (such as pizza or French fries). There is also a dining room 50 meters from the beach where you can always have a snack or drink.

It is worth noting the animation team - they did an excellent job; during the day they entertained people on the beach and by the pool (games, yoga, aerobics, dancing). In the evening in the amphitheater they held great performances, very funny every time. All vacationers, young and old, gathered in the evening to laugh until they dropped. After the evening concert, usually those who arrived without children moved to the Apollo Bar (also on site).

The service staff is very polite; the kitchen staff is mostly locals. The food is varied (including local and international dishes), delicious Turkish sweets.

Wi-Fi is paid (10 euros per day, you can pay hourly). I am sure that the hotel will soon receive its well-deserved five stars.

Weather in Rhodes in May

In May, summer in Rhodes is just beginning. In the first half of the month, the sea is still quite cold and the water is, to put it mildly, “invigorating” (water temperature is about 16 degrees). It is also quite windy on the island in the first half of the month. I recommend going closer to the end of the month, since by this time the water is already better warmed up and swimming is, in any case, possible. We were there in the 20th of May, the sea was still cool. Especially in the morning. Closer to lunch, the water warmed up and the temperature reached 18-20 degrees.

Towards evening it became cool, and for dinner we had to throw on a blouse and warm ourselves up.

In May, trips to Rhodes can be purchased at a very “delicious” price, because this is the very beginning holiday season. But here it is important to choose that golden mean, when prices for tours have not yet skyrocketed, but at the same time the weather allows swimming and sunbathing. We met tourists from Moscow who arrived a few days later than us and paid almost twice as much for the same conditions. It is worth remembering that towards the end of May, travel packages become more expensive.

As for the weather, in May it is warm, but not hot. Almost every day there is dry sunny weather, when the thermometer rises above +24 degrees. There are days even hotter, and the temperature rises to +28 and above. But such days are few, no more than 3-4 for the whole month.
How few rainy days there are at this time. In total, in Rhodes in May there are 1-2 days with precipitation. During the rains, about 14 millimeters of precipitation falls, which is almost unnoticeable near the sea.
The nights are still a little cool and if you like to walk in the evenings along the sea or along the city streets, then wear warm clothes. The temperature is no higher than +15 degrees, and a light cool breeze may blow.

During the day the sun shines for 10 hours, and the total daylight hours last for 13 hours. This is more than half a day. Which is very good, and you can enjoy your vacation.

In 2013, our whole family went to Greece on the island of Rhodes for the May holidays. The air temperature during the day reached +25 degrees. We even got tanned. At night the temperature drops to + 15, +16. Therefore, if you are going to take night walks, take a sweatshirt, jumper, and jeans with you. The water in the Aegean Sea warms up to + 18 degrees. The weather on the island in May is suitable for people who cannot bear high temperatures air. There are not many tourists at this time yet, so relaxing holiday with children you are guaranteed. You can take interesting excursions and cruises. This year we want to visit Rhodes again, but now by the end of May. The beach season is about to begin there.

I went to Rhodes at the beginning of May. There at this time it’s about +25 during the day, you can even sunbathe. But late in the evening it is still relatively cool, so it wouldn’t hurt to take jeans and a warm jacket with you. During our stay there, a rather nasty wind blew all the time. In general, this weather is more suitable for excursions; it’s a little cold for the beach, and strong wind prevents you from relaxing. But there weren’t many people and we rested calmly. But next time I’d rather go there in the middle of summer.

My husband and I vacationed last May from May 10 to May 23 on the island. Rhodes near the village of Kiotari at the Miraluna hotel. We chose this island because they promised more or less warm sea, and we just needed to swim in salt water (the doctors prescribed it for my husband). We were lucky with the weather; it was quite warm. True, at first in the mornings I had to throw something over my shoulders - it was chilly (but that was before 16). During the day, the sun pleasantly warmed the skin, the water warmed up enough to not freeze. And already from the 17th the sea became warm even for the kids. In the evenings, I felt more comfortable in light trousers and a shirt, because the breeze was a little cool. At this time of year in Rhodes it is good to travel around the cities, seeing the sights (without fear of getting a headache), but you will also be able to sunbathe. Although I advise those who are very heat-loving to come closer to the end of May (starting from the 20th the temperature will rise to 28 degrees).

We went in mid-May 2013. They lived in the northern part of the island, if you look at the map at the very “top of the island”. We arrived at night, the weather was warm but not hot, 18-20 degrees and quite humid. We rested for ten days. The first two days of our stay it rained, so we took a car and drove around the entire island. Particular difference in temperatures at different parts We didn't notice the island. A couple of times during these days the temperature dropped to 16 degrees, but this was closer to the evening. On the third day it became warmer, about 22 degrees, the sun appeared, and relaxation became much more fun. The water in the sea was cool and even by the end of our vacation not many people were swimming. A couple of swims “just for show” were enough for us. We spent most of our time by the pool. By the end of our vacation in the twenties, the temperature had risen to 25-27 degrees, the sea still had not warmed up yet, but in the sun and in the absence of wind it was already even hot. We were pleased with the vacation and the weather, but next time we will go, however, when it is already warmer.

The whole family vacationed in May 2012 on the island of Rhodes on the Aegean Sea. The weather both suited us and did not suit us at the same time. We often went to the capital of the island and walked there, so the air temperature was just right! It was not hot, not cold, there was a breeze, and there was no rain. The sun was shining brightly during the day. But on the other hand, in May, mine had not yet warmed up, and it was cold to lie on the beach: there was a strong wind. That's why we climbed into the sea twice. In addition, the Aegean Sea is very stormy, the kids didn’t swim. The best time to go to Greece is July-August.

We vacationed in Greece on the island of Rhodes in the village of Ixia in May. As soon as we arrived, the thermometer on the bus showed 29 degrees. This temperature lasted throughout the week we spent in Rhodes. The days were sunny. One day passed heavy rain, but in the evening the sun came out again. Ixia is located on the Aegean Sea. The sea was warm, but there were very big waves Because of this, we swam very little. The weather suited us, we were tanned, but of course the sea was not enough. Rhodes is washed by two seas - the Aegean and Mediterranean. At this time, it is better to choose a resort located on the Mediterranean Sea, it is calm and warm.

In May, tourists go to Rhodes looking not so much beach holiday, how much feeling of victorious spring, emotions and impressions from contact with the bright beauty of nature and the national color of Greece. It's opening month beach season, although the sea, as a rule, is still invigorating. Read on the Tour Calendar what Rhodes can offer you at the end of spring!

The weather in May is perfect for a rich excursion program, since there are few tourists at this time and there is no strong summer heat. Check out all the excursion offers upon arrival on the island and choose the most suitable options. We recommend going to ancient city Lindos, which is perhaps the most picturesque and charming village in Rhodes. On the way to Lindos, they usually make a stop at the Seven Springs Nature Reserve - most beautiful place, where healing water flows from springs.

Cruise lovers can take small trips to the islands of Tilos, Santorini or Symi. Popular among visitors to Rhodes are sea fishing, diving into the amazing undersea world, and, of course, a village party, where fiery Greek music will be played for you, and Greek cuisine and wonderful Rhodes wine will be offered.

On the last Sunday of May, a colorful holiday is held - a flower parade, symbolizing the beginning of summer. The timing was not chosen by chance - at this time the island is literally buried in flowers. In addition to the spring riot of nature, houses and streets are decorated with flowers for the holiday. The celebration ends with a costumed procession, the participants of which move both on foot and on skillfully decorated carts.
